Default "High-end coffee doesn't pay my rent" otc rant

Just a vent abt customer otc bullshit. I have a customer that comes in to see me once a month at my home club. He only comes in once a month b/c he lives several hrs away & is only in the area for reserve training (Army). I only contact him via txt to say lemme know when you're coming, & He always says smtg in the reply asking for otc meeting.

The first time he asked for otc we started talking abt dinner. I wasn't working that nite b/c of a knee injury, & it was a Friday. He balked when I said ok, we can meet for dinner, but you won't be getting my time for free. Seems the idea of paying for my company, on a nite when I would normally be making prime money did a hellish number on his appetite, but he's still been coming in for me when he's in town. Inevitably tho, he brings up otc at sm point while he's there.

Same business this wk, when he said he'd be coming on whatever date & said again he wants to meet for coffee. "Not Waffle House coffee, but real high-dollar coffee!" I can't help wondering what his idea of "high-dollar coffee" is - Starbucks? I sent a reply saying "If high-dollar coffee paid my rent you would nvr have met me, since I wouldn't be driving an hr each way to earn the $$ to pay it." Solid radio silence since then.

He's typically worth a solid amt when he comes in but God almighty I don't have the patience for this shit. Mr. "can't you separate business from our interactions outside of work, just once, just for me, pleeeeeeeaaaasse????", we both know that when you get on abt the improper intentions you claim not to have, you are full of shit. You also know my time is valuable, as you encourage me to go chat up potential customers even when you're in the club. My answer is the same every time you bring this up, & we have agreed we're at an impasse. There is no further need for this to be brought up. So please, cut the crap, pay me, & let's go grab us sm dinner, or cut the crap & take it to sm1 else. /Endrant.

Man, as irritating as it is to lose a good stream of income, sometimes it's just no longer worth the headache that goes along with it! It feels good to drop that kind of money, and it opens you up for a new, lower maintenance regular!

I know it sounds ungrateful, & possibly paranoid, but having otc brought up every time I saw or heard from him was starting to make me nervous.

He will eventually get tired of "pursuing" an OTC date (especially because you have made it clear that you will only see him OTC if he pays you for your time). Continue to make money from him ITC until this happens-if you can put up with him. If not, don't worry, you will make money else where.

I love that you told him off! Sooo funny that he thought you couldn't resist high end coffee.
Side note: What is it with customers always wanting to meet for coffee?

They're cheap and don't want to pay for dinner. Plus it's so low-key and not time draining that they think they might be able to get your time for free at a coffeeshop.

I once had the quintessential white trash couple come in on "couples night".... and as the strange and unpredictable stripping gods would have it, the coupke just kept throwing money at me giving me no option other than to stay and entertain their simple souls. Of course, the conversation escalated (not intelligence wise) to the inevitable "threesome" and "wild sex with the hillbillies" conversation. The offer was hot, passionate trailer park sex; full set of teeth optional, but not required. Sensing my disinterest they decided to kick it up a notch and really entice me....reel me in. The rather large wife gave me a gap ridden smile and suggested gleefully "honey, we don't just have to have sex.....we can watch TV too, we have cable!". She was so sincere and genuinely believed this was what would tip the scales in their favour, that I couldn't help but laugh!

Of all the offers I have been approached with (of which there are never any shortage) in return for sexual favors during my dancing career...this was by far the most memorable! I mean, forget simply meeting for a coffee! Who can resist sex for basic cable?!
