Post Should men shave their armpits? And if so, what is the best method of removal?

Being summer time out here in Cali, I been noticing more dudes in tank tops/wife beaters/shirtless with little to no armpit hair. Personally I like the look and went ahead and took my trusty clippers with a #1 guard to my pits. It feels so much better/cleaner.

Specifically do you prefer your man to have hair, no hair, or at a middle ground where it is trimmed but still present? And if you guys like the no hair look, what is best method of removal? Shaving? Waxing? Laser hair removal? (is that expensive?). Reason why I ask is because I want to be at my best for the majority of girls who have a preference to the hair vs no hair side.

^Ahhh feels so much better when I perspire its not as icky feeling.

I just thought today...armpit hair looks bad on a woman. And it doesn't look much better on a guy either...so why not trim it down or heck remove it all.

^ Check out The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson...no armpit hair. Also most if not all MMA fighters have no armpit hair too.

Idk about everyone else, but when I open a thread and see a picture of your armpit, I feel like your appearance-fixation has gone a little far today. If you want to shave it, shave it. Sometimes my SO does when he feels like it. I hardly notice or care either way. If you want to laser, find a deal on Groupon. Rumor has it it hurts a little but is worth it if you like to be hair-free. Don't wax; it hurts, often causes folliculitis if done improperly, and you have to wait for it to grow out some to do it again.

Thanks for the advice...hmm well if the laser is permanent that could be a very good option. Pay up one time and never have to deal with the hair again.

Its interesting because some girls really loathe it and want it all off while some want it present (they dont necessarily like it they just think it makes a guy more masculine). Body hair is such a grey area for men but for women it almost seems standard to take it all off. I do agree with that by the way.

Or another one is male eyebrow plucking. If the dude has a uni brow by all means pluck away but what about plucking for the "cleaner" look? I remember when I was the Philipines they wanted to pluck my brows for a cleaner look. (bottom only...because if from top it would "shape" em and would look feminine).

for me, an effeminate man who obsesses over his looks and spends more time grooming than i do..is a COMPLETE turn off. a guy who has good hygiene, take care of his body through exercising is great, but i think you are taking it a bit too far and going into obsessive territory like tuesday said. SOME girls will like it. SOME will hate it. you can't make yourself into the perfect man every girl is going to go gaga for. not gonna happen. personal preference is so random.

I don't care about strangers' armpit hair.

If its the man I'm with, I love when he keeps all of his armpit hair, belly hair, AND ball hair.

I'd prefer that it's at least trimmed.

True True, well I just discovered today that I prefer it. And really I should just do as I please...heck I am growing out my hair and some of my family wants to disown me because they think its some "gay" "faggot" status to have long hair. Probably showing them this would put it over the top. I dont associate gay/lesbian with hair removal or long hair...but I guess there will be people who think that way and nothing will open their mind to the possibility that a man can have long hair and be straight and a woman can have short hair and be straight/not a dike/tomboy/etc.

Thats a good attitude and I don't mind all the girls (only one that matters is who I am with) but I do prefer that girls shave their legs/arms/etc.

Yeah mine is trimmed down to a #1 now...before that I could braid it.
Some of my text responses are funny...its basically WTF.

Remember that hottie Jacob from Twilight? He had no underarm hair.

    ^It just looks cleaner.
But everyone will have their preference.

yeah but all these men have had it waxed or lasered so it looked like they just don't grow it naturally, which looks a lot different than if you just shave a bit ( your pic). you should also consider what's going to look good on YOU. i see all these pics of beautiful women and think " yeah i wanna look like that!" and usually it never flies on me..because im too focused on looking like them to actually consider im me, and it won't look right

That is a real eye opener now. If you wanna replicate the look of a somebody you gotta get it down to the same procedures ie. laser hair removal etc.
That is true...what looks great one someone else (hairstyle/clothes/etc.) might look so/so or bad on someone else.

I just have to find my jive and run with it.

But really I gotta cool it with the vanity...it hasnt taken over my life but I sure do think about it more than I would like. I have even tried facial exercises religiously in hopes of that chiseled facial structure...but I simply dont have the bone structure to begin with even though I had lost body fat.

I didn't understand before how some or a lot it seems of girls were so obsessed with their looks but now I get it....and the obsession can become unhealthy real quick if one does not keep them self in check.

No wonder the beauty/cosmetics/plastic surgery industry thrives...its because of people like me and the many others who are pursuing perfection which will never exist.

"Beauty is often considered subjective and “in the eye of the beholder.”

To some extent this is true. People argue over the attractiveness of various celebrities precisely because differences of opinion exist. Tastes also differ across times and cultures. Victorian England admired pale skin. During the Colonial Era, men showed off their calves like men show off their pecs and biceps today. And skinniness has not always been considered the ideal.

However, academic work on beauty finds that much of what we find attractive is consistent over time and across cultures. In general, people find symmetry and averageness of features attractive in faces. When images of perfectly symmetrical faces are created in Photoshop, people like them better. The same is true of photos created by merging many faces to get a composite. Scientists speculate that we prefer symmetry and average features because they (at least at some point) indicated healthy genes or other evolutionary advantages."

Personally I prefer shaven armpits as I dislike body hair in general but rarely see that. I find excessive body hair to be gross and once dated a man with long strands of underarm hair, yuck. I figure if a man expects me to shave my armpits and legs the least he can do is at least trim his armpits.

I agree. I been rocking underarm hair for a long ass time and figured men dont mess with that stuff. Well its well past the millenium and manscaping is a good thing. I dont bother to shave my legs, I am okay with the hair there but now I am gonna do my underarms and heck Ill shave my nuts too and trim the pubic area.

I dont like all that much hair myself but being Asian...we arent usually that hairy to begin with. I can't grow a beard to save my life, and people think I shave my arms when really I just have very little hair to begin with.

Practical reason to at least trim if you do any kind of combat sport like boxing or mma/muy thai etc.

I am not "hairy" but do have chest hair and what people call a tiger tail? on my stomach. Trim fine no problem, I like to be neat anyway. Shave? hell no, at least not because some lady boy or random girls (who have a broad variety of opinions on body hair) like the hairless look.

Body image is kind of a goofy thing for guys. Personally I would not do it primarily for the same reason I keep my head shaved pretty close, low maintenance lol. Sorry I was late picking you up... had to shave... my pits...

Then again I am sure some girl(s) will love it.

    Yeah, I shave it.

Use a phillips bodygroom for best results.

As well as looks, it's more hygenic.

I couldn't care less what anyone does with their armpit hair...

But it isn't any more hygienic to have shaved armpit hair, than it's any less hygienic to have long flowing hair on your head...
If you wash well, you're clean.

But seriously, unless you are a caveman looking guy (which I doubt), I wouldn't worry about shaving your armpits. Easy for me to say I suppose, I'm not really a hairy type guy.

I'm blown away right now... who would shave their ARMS?! My arms hair is very light blonde and not noticeable. Why would you prefer a girl shave that, BlackSheep? As for a man, I think it would be a bit weird to see shaved armpits. I think shaved chest is strange too though.

I prefer guys to shave their pits. Equals major points for me at least. I can't stand when I play/watch basketball and the guys have grass growing under their arms.lol

Do what you want. It wouldn't look out of place since many guys shave for sports. People would just assume you're into cycling, swimming, body building etc.

My man got his lasered! It was almost all gone when I met him, and it is frickin awesome! He does like having his armpits licked and kissed a lot, so not having hair there certainly helps. I believe it cost him something like $700 total, and took around 9-10 treatments.

I like my men smooth, but arm hair and leg hair are sexy and manly. I don't want him removing any of that!

No...that is ridiculous. You are a man-you are allowed to have hair on your legs, chest, arm pits etc-it's natural! If you choose to shave, that's up to you, but a man with no arm pit hair (who isn't an athlete with an actual reason for doing it) would look weird IMO. If it's to reduce sweat or body odour, try Botox injections or a diet change and a better deodorant.
