For those who don't know, I quit stripping a few years ago and now write for an alternative newsweekly in New Orleans. My editor gave me the thumbs-up to do a story on how the summer tourism slump affects the club environment, management practices and the women who work there. In my experience, it created a stressful work environment (at best) ; at worst, it creates an atmosphere conducive to sexual coercion and assault. I've seen hiring freezes at clubs on Bourbon Street in August, rampant extras, fines if you don't show up when you're scheduled, etc.
So I'm curious about how the atmosphere changes in your club during slow summer months. Do you do well? Is it hard to make money? Is it hit or miss? Does your club do promotions, drink specials, waived cover charges, etc.? And how do you personally keep your sanity when it's slow? If you work anywhere in the greater New Orleans area, please hit me up. I've already reached out to Mediocrity. Does anyone know if Athenathefabulous still works in NOLA?
Please message me if you're game for an interview. I'd post my email here but I have an internet stalker. We can do interviews over email, on the phone or in person, and I'll change your name and club name. Thanks in advance.
