Thumbs up Fun alternative to flossing!

    Waterpiks! http://www.amazon.com/Waterpik-WP-10...words=waterpik

I just got mine, and I lurv it! I'm a self-care junkie, so stuff like this totally spins my wheels! (is that even a saying?!) I was doubtful when I first heard from my dentist that it's more effective than flossing, but that's because I didn't realize that you can dial up the intensity of the water pulses. It definitely works! And I know I'll use it more often than I usually floss just because it's so much more fun to use (and more hygienic). You use the machine for 90 seconds, brush your teeth, and you're done!

    Anyone else have one?

Nah, it's all good, I am a dental hygiene freak myself..I use these lil' plastic pics, they have a kind of mini mascara lookin' thingie on one end, the other's like a regular toothpick, but flexible.
I have these gum areas where wisdom teeth have been, plus I have 6 crowns so that'd be great for me.

Yes! It comes with like five other attachments - a couple of which are made specifically to clean braces, crowns, etc.

My dad has a waterpik and swears by it but I personally prefer to stay flossin.

Been flossing since I was 3 and never had a cavity so I will stick to what works. I can see your enthusiasm, whatever keeps those chompers clean is what matters. I always rinse out my mouth with water (less than 20 seconds), floss (1-2 minutes), then brush gently (2-3 minutes).

Whether you use a pik or floss....make sure to get the plaque off. You only have one set of teeth, make it last till you die.

And always, use a soft bristle toothbrush. Also get that dental cleaning every 6 months...its a must.

Never tried a waterpik but it looks like a promising gadget for dental health and those who dont like to floss.

If you are a flosser then Oral B Glide is the best brand hands down.

I use the flossers with the long handle. Those things are magical. I hate flossing with normal floss. The long grip on the handle is what makes it so easy. Going from rarely flossing to flossing everyday just from that purchase. And never had a cavity.

I feel like I wouldn't use the water pick because of water wasting even though it's probably not that big of a deal.

I second that Oral B Glide is the best floss. Its ribbon style and silky smooth...especially good for people with tightly spaced teeth like mine.
Floss gently around the gumline and pay special attention to the rear quadrants/molars.

I am the exact opposite, I tried the long handle ones and did not like it. I find that when I use floss the conventional way, I have more control/precision and once you know how to hold the floss properly, its easy as pie. I been doing this since 3 so I better be a pro by now.

As for never having a cavity, welcome to the club! Its a good feeling aint it?

Oh and just in case you guys did not already know, wait 20-30 mins to floss/brush your teeth after consuming something acidic such as tomatoes/oranges/lemons/soda/etc. The stuff softens the enamel and if you brush it makes matters worse. So its best to wait the 20-30 mins as mentioned. What I do is rinse out my mouth with water after consuming the stuff and allow a 20 minute grace period. Then I go ahead and floss first, then brush. And here are my sources:

I hear that. It uses a surprisingly small amount. You only do it for 90 seconds, once or twice a day, and the 90 seconds usually depletes half of the reservoir (which is fairly small to begin with).

Also, use toothbrushes with clear bristles only (not the blue/red dyed bristles). Not putting ink into your gums is a good thing.
