I started 2 months ago @ 3.99/4.99 on SM. I am now @ 4.99/5.99. Seems to be working good for the time being.

Don't go cheap. Guys will pay! They're actually more intrigued the higher priced you are, especially as a newbie

When you first start out on SM they do have your rates capped. You have to email them and ask to have them raised. Usually you will want to give them a number you want to raise it to. So, if you want to start out charging say $5.99 a min, that is what I would ask for.

As for me, I have been camming since 1998, so, as you can imagine, the rates have changed quite a bit since then! I was at $1.50 a min back in February 1998, and now I charge $6.99.

Back in those days, there were actually studio girls who were charging as little as .35cents a minute! iFriends finally got wise about 18 mos to 2 years in and made the least amount you could charge $1.99. We do get 50% over there unless you opt in for the guaranteed payment where you will only get the same as you would on SM - 35%.

I hear Adult Work is harder to get on now that they require passports as valid proof of your identity if you are not in the UK. Streamate is probably going to be your best bet as far as getting your feet wet and acclimated to camming. There is enough traffic there, and you should make something.

What others make or have made when they first started is a moot point, as some make a ton right out of the gate, and some struggle. It is like the old saying, "Your mileage may vary..." LOL

Also, when starting out and pricing yourself, think of it as selling a house: Most will set their price a bit above what they would accept so they have wiggle room. If you find at $4.99 or whatever you start at, you are getting no takers, then, you can go down a bit. But, imagine if you started low, and then realized you have something the guys want to see? Don't sell yourself short.

Now, price also should be based on how good your internet speed is, cam, lighting etc. Guys aren't going to want to pay a premium price for a choppy feed.

So I was also worried abt family stuff when I started 5 months ago. Honestly most my family does not have twitter and you can also protect your account- I recently too it off and geo blocking - I was blocking customers and am making way more now that it is off- my outlook now is they are on the site so if they are looking then hey lol. I bust my butt at my real job and I cam 20 hrs a week and am making more than my 40 hr a week job- your family doesn't pay your bills and if they find out that is the chance you take. Also talk - don't sit in your room waiting for guys to start up! And you have to email sm but they at give you a hard time about raising them . Initially say that you are using the he encoder - have an hd camera and are streaming in widescreen and they should up it!!!

Since your new I would set it as high as it will let you set it right now. Don't worry, the guys will pay it. I once was scared of charging to much. If I had to do it all over again..I would have started high. You are worth it honey. When I started at Streamate I chose 4.99 for both private and exclusive. I didn't know at the time that I could ask Streamate for different prices. I am now at 7.99 for private and 5.99 a minute for exclusive. I will raise my prices again once I find a way to get better internet. That is the only thing holding me back right now.

Start high baby girl...like I said you are more then worth it.

I'm still new-ish on SM. I set my rates as high as they would let me. I have about a 50/50 private to exclusive client ratio at the moment so I'm not sure what to charge more for.

Most charge more for Exclusive since they can't make as much money if they get more than one person in premium chat. However, people that charge more for premium generally hate premium chat/like exclusive more. I get more people taking me exclusive(@5.99 and raising it tomorrow) since I won't look at cams or any fetish in premium(@4.99 also raising it). What sort of men are you catering to? I demand respect and am a niche(BBW) as such my rates reflect that.

Sorry this might sound stupid (I haven't started camming yet still waiting for approval), when you get taken to private, multiple guys can be in the room right? - How does that work, do you do a little show or do you have to read what all the guys are saying and pretty much do that?

Also, is it generally a good idea to tell the guys know I am a newbie once I actually start camming, or will they exploit the shit out of me if I say that?

I've been camming for a few months and guys still try to exploit me. Now matter what, be firm in what you will and won't do, keeping the rules of the site in mind (like no below the waist nudity in free chat on Streamate), and know what it looks like what when someone tips. If it looks like something they said normally and there is no chime(if you have sound on your end), then they are scamming you. Also 99.99999% of guys who say do something and I'll tip you after are lying assholes.

As for when taken to private with multiple guys, you don't have to do something you are uncomfortable with just because they ask. Also, if they want one on one attention and to call the shots, they should take you exclusive. If just one person is there at the start, then I'll do what they ask if it's something I'm alright with in premium chat, but if someone shows up and tries to call the shots, I'll tell them to knock it off and take me exclusive. Generally in premium, I'll just end up masturbating the way I enjoy unless they ask for a toy after doing a bit of a strip.

Very helpful, thanks RaeRae! I wish I could practice first haha, I have a feeling my first day is going to be preeetty loopy. I just got accepted to MFC, still waiting on SM. I wanted to start on SM like most people have recommended. MFC drew me in with the higher payout though. My logitech c920 comes in tomorrow so hopefully SM will have approved me by then because I wanna get the "first day nerves" over with!

What about a newbie without audio? I am about to start on SM, and was thinking 2.99 premium/3.99 exclusive, but do you ladies think even this may be too high for a new cam girl with no sound? As much as I'm concerned about no audio probably meaning less money, there's no way possible for me to use sound, since I live in a house full of family (I will be lucky to find the privacy to cam even without sound!). But since I need the income so desperately, I really need to figure out a good starting point that's not too low but not so high so that customers would be unwilling to pay since there's no sound. I am really wondering if it's possible to make good money without sound, if my rates are right?

You'll do great. You can tell guys you are new... most might even ask if you're new because they haven't seen you on before (and you will appear as "new model" on your sites anyway).

First day nerves were bad for me.. I felt like I was shaking.. but the more you cam the seriously easier it gets. After the first private you will be like WOW, I can do this!! The next day you cam you might feel nerves again, but log in again anyway, and repeat...

I was at 2.99/4.24 with no sound temporarily a few months ago.. I have higher rates now, with sound. I was busy. You really don't know until you try it. Maybe start higher, 3.99/4.99 at least, especially if your cam/internet is good. Definitely do not go below 2.99.

    @Dezzy

As for lighting just pull a bunch of lamps in your room at first. The multi head ones at target work pretty well, I think I got mine for around $20. Don't run out an buy pro lighting gear until you sure you like camming and are making money.

You make 35% on streamate so if your rates are $4.99/$5.99, take home is $1.75/$2.10 per min

Private - Is a group show - Each guy pays your minutely rate for the time he is there. Personally I hate group shows and only ever have 1-3 people in them. Most guys see it as a way to get a cheaper show but still expect to get exactly what they want like in an Exclusive show. Guys also bounce nd out which I find distracting.
Exclusive - One person show -

Everyone runs their room differently but when I do private shows I do what I want. I go at my pace and hell I might not even pull out a toy before the 10min mark (if at all). Dont let muliple guys bark orders at you, you'll go crazy. If a guy wants something special or if he wants to direct the show he needs to choose Exclusive.

@Sensuella - Can you just be quite? Make your topic "Shhh Roomates/Family is in the other room" Something to imply that your being extra naughty lol and you dont want to get caught. Most guys like to hear you even if your quite. Yes your going to make less but It might be do able. Another option is to make clips when you've got the house clear.

May I ask how do you do it without the guys giving you low ratings/leaving the show?
Before I started SM, I planned to do the same; do whatever I want in private, and take requests in exclusive. Now, 2 months in, I think it's a great idea in theory, but hard to implement.

And it's a problem, because when a guy takes me private rather than exclusive, I immediately don't take him seriously (cause, really, there's only a $1 difference in my private/exclusive rate) and know he's probably going to be demanding. Of course I never ever do something I only do in exclusive (toys, C2C, any kind of anal action, roleplays), but I still feel some sort of... stress (I guess) whenever a guy takes me private rather than exclusive.

$.99, such a silly girl I was, but I raised it over time. Every time I got a new cam, better audio, upgraded lighting ect. I raised it- now I'm at $3.99.

I agree with qurl. Start with 3.99/4.99 at least. Back when I was with a Streamate studio, they would send out some sort of Welcome e-mail to the studio models, and in that e-mail they recommended that new models start out at 3.99 and 4.99.
