Default Cops forced to return 1,000,000$ cash to dancer

    http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs...151044009.html

Thank all the gods they made the cops give it back. There was a sheriff in Daytona Beach who would set up fake roadblocks and only bust people who turned around to avoid them. Anyone with large amounts of cash had it seized and many never got it back. They will use the 'trace remnants on the dollars to convict you in many areas.

Fifteen years earnings, one million dollars--that's pretty cool.

^ banks have their drawbacks, trust me! you can have your money seized from a bank account as well, just ask the poor schmucks in cyprus.

i think banks are the WORST place to put money?
    know why?
because if you put 1,000,000 in a bank,
the bank takes that money and uses it for other shit. it's not in "your bank account."
it's the "banks money" for you to use. aka, to repay the central bank.

    i hate banks.

Coming from a police family, I grew up w/ the advice 'Nvr look for an elephant in a pencil drawer.' I apply it to my dance-$$ stashing as well - in other words, I get creative in where I hide it particularly until I get around to putting enough in the bank to cover expenses (prefer to pay cash most times but pay most bills electronically).

I keep my money in the bank - too paranoid. I would just worry about someone holding a gun to your head and forcing you to open your big ass safe and taking all of your money.

Soooo. Best way to keep money at home was to appear "average" (don't buy a ton of expensive things to bring attention to yourself) dont tell anyone you keep your money in your house, and probably hide your safe in the wall or some kind of decoy.

I worry about some of the people here who have been very vocal where they keep their money in their own homes...I wouldn't say anything like that at all.

More of the stripper stereotype 'unreported cash earnings'. I doubt that the California Franchise Tax Board or the IRS will allow the full amount to be returned as ordered by the federal judge !

keeping your money in a safe is MUCH safer then a bank.
    lets say you have...80,000.
lets say theoretically, you need 80,000 cash.

good luck trying to withdraw all of that money.

If you have paid taxes on your earnings, there is no reason not to keep it in a reputable bank......when all the banks failed.....Do you know how much consumers lost of their savings? Zero dollars and Zero cents. The FDIC insures consumers.

Now...if you are hiding earnings, not paying taxes, etc...then no, not a bank, because the IRS can seize your accounts. But if you are not engaging in criminal activity, no safer place than a bank.

Please dont believe the 'boogieman' stories about banks losing your money.

Depends....the IRS is required to assess tax within 3 years after the tax return was filed with the IRS, and no proceeding in court by the IRS without assessment for the collection of any tax can begin after the expiration of 3 years.(unless they find that the income was understated by more than 25% then its 6 years, if they find fraud, then it doesnt apply)

Basically they cant go back more than 3 years unless they find fraud or omissions. If she has 3 years of good returns, she should be OK. They could audit her,(and probably will) but i doubt they could stop the Nebraska court from giving her the check.

I read that and was like, now THAT'S a shitty way to transport money and a shitty investment to sink your money into. I can easily see this going the other way and the cops having to return fuckall. I keep any "spare" cash in investments...not that there's a lot of spare cash lying around. She would have had to pay taxes on it, true, but she would have been making interest that whole time. 15 years is a lot of interest.

Put $1mm in rental real estate in my area...you get 10k/mo (or its equivalent) FOR EVER. After maintenance/vacancy/management/having other people do all the work.

I believe in investing, not storing money at .00023% interest.

^^^ if the deal was so 'above board', why was the dancer taking the role of 'silent partner' and making payment with bales of cash ?

Wherever one wants to store cash or invest it is their business, but I have to believe that putting it into the bank so that a million in cash did not have to be transported by hand across the country is a good idea. I mean, what if the friends decide to just take the cash and leave the country? What if there is a car accident and the car catches on fire? Or any number of other possibilities. Certainly having the money in the bank temporarily between the time you take it out of your mattress and the time you buy your nightclub has got to be a much safer way of handling it.

Oh all that is certainly true! But when the fucking cops are the ones stealing your money, things have clearly gone wrong...

Yeah, and if it wasn't a rental car, the cops probably would ave seized that too... Tax dollars being spent on lawyers to seize citizen's property. Disgusting.
