Smiley Newbie Here! Help me choose a 'persona'!

    Hello everyone!

First of all, I love this forum! Who knew that there was a place with such a wealth of knowledge! I've enjoyed reading all of the FAQs, reviews and opinions offered on the forum and I would like to say thanks to everyone that cares to offer it.

Anyway, I want to get into dancing, I think it is something I would enjoy and it will allow me to make lots of money doing it. There is a part of my that likes showing off, plus I have a 'vanilla job' that doesn't pay all the bills. I wanted something extremely profitable to supplement my income and pay down all my stupid student loan debt I've racked up. I've been doing a lot of research the past couple days, and I feel like I'll be ready to try an audition soon. However, I'm not sure what 'persona' I could use that would make me more money. (I'm actually a really shy person IRL, so adopting a 'persona' for a couple hours seems to really help).

Anyway, IRL, I'm a natural curly haired black woman that rocks a fro and nerdy glasses. While I do get many complements on my look and how it matches my personality, I'm not sure if that will help or hinder my money making ability. So I figured that I could rock the whole 70's soul sister thing OR I could get a wig or a weave and play up the 'traditional' standard of beauty with hair half way down my back.

I know it just all depends on my area, club, customers, whatever, so IN YOUR OPINION, which do you think will be more profitable?? Should I try both?? How would I go about gauging which works better for me?? TIA for all your help!

One of the beauties of this job is how it lets you reinvent yourself, pretty much whenever/however you like. You're right, there are a number of factors that play into what persona might soar or stall. Just play around w/ different styles, give them each a trial run & see what works for you.

Natural hair is a no-no. Men like straight hair. Get a weave or wig. I've seen a woman with locks before and she looked really elegant but she pretty much had Naomi Cambell's face and body not something I think most can pull off.

From my own personal experience guys don't notice me much or even ignore me with natural hair and when I straighten it the same ones want to talk to me all of a sudden. lol Straight hair gets their attention guys are superficial like that.

Choose whatever persona you want. No one can really pick for you. If you're feeling it. It will show.

There's thread here somewhere about the best way for black dancers to dress/style hair to maximize profits. If I find it I'll post the link.

I really wouldn't worry about creating a persona right now, before having worked a shift, let alone even auditioned.

    First thing's first: get hired.

Then, work on getting comfortable with approaching customers, selling dances, and asserting your boundaries. Once you can do that, then worry about crafting your persona. By then, you'll have a good idea of the clientele at your club and what they look for, so it'll be much easier to figure out how to appeal to them.

And really, a good stripper is more like a chameleon - you don't have a persona so much as adapt to the dream girl the client you're sitting with is looking for, be it a party girl to throw back some shots with, an intelligent conversationalist, a girl next door, a nerdy gamer, a dumb girl that makes him feel smart and sexy, etc., etc.

Looks-wise, especially when you're new, be as mainstream as possible. That makes you appealing to the largest amount of customers that walk through the door. Once you start to develop some hustle skills, you can play around with less mainstream looks (70s soul sister for example), but the more Barbie you are, the easier it'll be.

Glasses, however, can be wonderful. You don't often see dancers rocking them, but dudes fucking dig that look. I'm not sure what you mean by nerdy glasses though.

I can tell you from experience that keeping it "stripper pc" is just easier. I have a mohawk but I seldom if ever wear it. Don't try to be edgy or
    "individualistic"

I made that mistake and it cost me money.

You definitely want to get a wig and rock straight hair. It will be easier for you to make money that way. A few months down the line, if you want to try out your natural look and see how it goes once you are used to hustling, then go for it but for now, you want to stay as mainstream stripper normal look as possible. Also, don't try to find a persona now. I think your persona finds you naturally anyways. No need to over think it. What you need to be doing right now is getting an outfit, finding a club, auditioning, and reading a LOT of Hustle Hut.Also working out, eating healthy, taking iron supplements (if you want to learn to do pole tricks which isn't a requirement to make money but alas, the iron will help with getting your strength up), and getting and breaking in a good beginner pair of stripper heels which you can find a wide variety on snaz75.com or your local stripper store. Good luck

Thanks for the tips ladies! A friend and I visited one of the clubs I wanted to try yesterday. I wanted to check it out and I ended up talking to a few of the girls. Anyway, my friends convinced me to ask them about an audition and I have one Wednesday! I'm super nervous!
