Question I found two clubs and I really want to audition, BUT...

Hi everyone, I'm new to sw and I've been lurking for a while and reading lots of reviews and threads in the hustle hut/newbie area. I need some advice before starting out.
I'm interested in becoming a stripper to make some extra income to cover going back to school expenses and tuition. I've checked out a couple of clubs and there are two that I would love to work in. Here comes the BUT...

My first concern is that although both clubs are really into alternative/tattooed girls and Black dancers, I'm both alternative *and* Black. I have a few tatts, pierced nipples, and an afro mohawk. I love to dance to goth/industrial and metal. Men seem to find me intriguing on the street and some flirted with me when I went as a customer to both clubs, but I don't know if management will be intrigued
I saw on other threads that Black strippers do better with straight hair as well! I could wear a wig, but I really can't fake dancing to hip hop because it just isn't me. I mean I can dance to it (like for a LD), but I can't fake that it's my *thing* when I'm on stage.

My bigger concern is that at one of the clubs I wanted to try seems perfect for beginners like me. But the problem is that when I visited with my boyfriend a customer there started chatting us up. He asked our names and like an idiot I gave him my real name (first name only). Later in the night as he got drunker, he kind of latched himself on to us and kept gossiping to us about the club. He gave us a dancer's real name and a customer's name with out even asking! Then he waits until my bf goes to the bathroom to come to me again and show me a photo album he had with him with his baby pictures in it! WTF? Who brings their photo album full of baby pics to a strip club?
Should I forget this club just because of this one creepy customer? I liked everything else about the club. It's a little dive bar that plays good music and I saw a nice variety of girls. Their LD area looked nice and there were people getting them.

The other club seems to have more traffic. But the night I was there only 2 girls showed up to work! More trickled in later, but it seems like they need dancers there.

On the subject of the creep, he may not remember you by the time you're a dancer, or at least your name. But even if he does, many dancers don't mind giving out or even dancing by their real names, especially since so many girls lie about it. (Is Ashley you're real name or stage name? Real! You're lying to me! Blahblahblah) I have a fake real name just to be on the safe side, and I don't exactly believe the "real names" of the girls I work with, especially if a customer is the one who tells it to me. For example, I work with one woman who has a very obvious stripper stage name, like Karma or Diamond. Her regulars cozily call her a normal name though, let's say Jen, because they know the "real girl." I've no clue if Jen's name is actually Jen, and would probably be more surprised if she was being truthful.

As for whether your look works, my personal experience has been that if you have too many "alternative" factors, it gets difficult. Some girls rock the fuck out of being alternative with no problem, but my area just made it difficult to be pale, have dark hair, tattoos/piercings, and small boobs. I got implants and dress in brighter colors and have a much easier time now. I think you should try out your look of choice, and if you encounter difficulties, I think you should try a wig and bargain on the music. Idk what type of club this is, so if they usually play rap, it might not be negotiable. But if there's a wide variety, I don't think you'll have a problem dancing to at least popular alternative rock, if not the harder stuff.

I can't really comment on which club you should choose, but I do think you should just go ahead and talk to a manager about working. You'll never know unless you apply, and if you go in during a slow time, you can always discuss whether there are factors of your appearance they'd prefer you to change to work there.

About the creeper, don't worry about it. It's not a big deal.
I would audition at both clubs with straight hair and then see which you like more.

When in Rome.... If you're going to be demanding as a newb then clubs might not be so willing to hire you. As a newbie you're on the back foot anyway. Don't add to it by insisting you can only dance to such and such on stage.

This industry is brilliant because it does let you show individuality, but any club that hires you is basically taking a chance on you. They aren't equal opportunities employers... Maybe wait until you have a proven track record before you choose clubs based on how much freedom you have to choose music etc. Nobody likes a diva baby stripper.

The creeper is a standard part of strip club life. Embrace him, guys like that will be paying your rent soon!

Your hair sounds awesome, but in my experience, I don't think a mohawk would do anything but hurt your money in the club. I would suggest that you should probably wear a wig while you're at work.
As for the music, I have personally never encountered a club that told girls what they had to dance to. In fact, so many girls want to dance to hip hop, that they are relieved when rock girls join the rotation and they can mix it up.
And also, who cares about that guy, haha. He sounds like a harmless dork. Get used to this type, they're common in the club, lol! You'd be surprised how many guys want to show you pictures of their kids/pets/wife/etc....!

GothBarbie - it was star garden

Everyone else - thanks for the advice! I have a very cute red and black wig that I will wear. It's straight and flattering and much longer than my real hair. I think I will also tone down my makeup and out fit than what I usually wear when I go clubbing/gogo dancing. Both clubs are known as rocker bars/alternative clubs. I called and asked both places about auditioning and they told me to come in. One club said to bring my music and the other said to pick from what the DJ has. I'm glad I get to pick and I think I'll go for something more mainstream like Depeche Mode. I'm not sure what song, probably something a little slower and sexy.
Now I will just focus on boosting my energy/confidence and practicing my dancing. This is a lot different than dancing on a box or in a cage! One of the clubs is topless and the other is just a bikini bar. I'm still on the fence about what to wear. I'm auditioning tomorrow night

In Your Room and Stripped are two slow and sexy songs that are great for stage shows, if you're looking for recommendations.

Good luck with your audition(s) and don't let the creeps creep you out. They're par for the course, and many people exchange baby photos in the club - though most of them share them via their phones, not actual albums. Still, they're harmless for the most part. If you get too squicked out, the great thing about this job is that you can always get up and go away.

Oooo, I love In Your Room. I was thinking of that or Halo. Is it weird to dance to two songs by the same artist?

And as for the photos, I don't think I'd be so creeped out by photos of his kids. But he was showing me photos of himself as a kid. It was like this really old photo album from the 60's. He was an adorable kid though, lol.

Not at all. Makes sense when doing a set anyway since generally the songs will sound similar and there won't be an abrupt segue from one to the other. Don't overthink this.

I have a few guy friends that used to go in there after work on fri evenings so that's why I've stayed away haha however I am looking for something in the LA area after i return from the road. I used to work in Hollywood but ugh I soo don't wanna go back to that shit hole town.

GothBarbie - pm me when you get back in town. I'll tell you my experience with Star Garden and Cheetah's.

It's open again now. Not sure what the crowd is like on weekends, but it seemed like a good place for a newbie. Except well, they had no interest in me! I got the old "The manager's not in right now, I'll take your number". I was let down, but not too upset. I felt like I looked sexy. I spent so much time on my outfit, getting myself psyched up, and makeup/hair that I refused to be discouraged. So I drove immediately to Star Garden. Tonight there were a lot more customers in there than on the Saturday night I went, which I wasn't expecting! I auditioned and was hired! I even got a tip lol.
Now that I've showed my boobs to the world, I feel like the hardest part is over. I was nervous and trembling on stage, but I start tomorrow night and I know it will be better. I need to work on my dancing/stage fright and making eye contact with people tipping me.
I've taken a pole dancing class, and I'd like to take another. I think I really need to practice my floor work. Mainly getting up gracefully from the floor!!!

    Thank you Addison!
I had my first night last night. It was tough, but I did okay. I'm really glad for all the advice you guys gave me. It helped a lot, and I felt more confident. I need to work on chatting up customers, so off to the hustle hut I go!
I wore the wig and that was a good choice! I'm gonna need a back up for sure though- it gets all sweaty and tangled quick. Same thing with shoes! I already tore my boots! There's a learning curve for sure, and I'm ready to make the most of my time there. My first night I was really shy for some reason when I wasn't dancing. But the thing is- I had fun. I got paid to dance on stage, laugh with some guys, and I got to see some gorgeous girls' boobs while I was at it.
