I usually don't tip the VIP host at the club I'm currently working at. The club already takes 35-40% of our rooms and if the customer pays credit (which they usually do on the more expensive rooms) and they add a tip when they sign the credit card receipt, that tip automatically goes to the VIP hosts (when I think many customers think it goes to the girl). If I have a guy who gets multiple rooms or a really expensive one and doesn't tip them then if the VIP host helped me [up]sell the room I'd tip him. But I typically don't, and tipping VIP hosts isn't the norm.
However, during check-out I as long as I've had a halfway-decent night or better, I put some money in the tip jar for hospitality staff, which includes all the floor staff (greeters, door girls/guys, etc) and since VIP hosts are part of 'hospitality' then they'll get part of it. That's not mandatory but I always tip hospitality.
I'd ask a non-VIP host part of the staff at your club what's customary, that way they'll give you a non bias answer (the VIP host might tell you something just to get money out of you).
