Time for some good news!
I worked my first full shift (7 hours) at my very favorite club yesterday. Maybe I should clarify... it was my first shift there in 15 years!
I know it is somewhat unusual to really *love* a club and feel some loyalty to it, but I do this one.
I love it for its cleanliness, the friendliness of the dancers and staff, and just the general atmosphere. It's small enough to not be intimidating, but nice enough to not feel anything like a dive. I've always felt at home there.
I was a little apprehensive going in, that maybe so many years later, it may have gone downhill in some ways, but...
Nope! I was so relieved, impressed even.
I did expect that the money would be a little harder to get to than it was in the 90's, just as is the case anywhere now, and that turned out to be true. But, as dead as it was, it still wasn't *that* bad... I left with $134... and didn't really hustle too hard. I just kinda stayed visible, and offered what I had to give.
I do want to thank all of you for your intelligent and hard-learned advice and information. I put a ton of it to work yesterday, and it really did pay off.
Such as:
Greeting customers with your name and letting them know you are available to them as soon as they walk in the door, almost
like a server would to a table at a restaurant. I got $50 in dances (2 songs) off just that move alone... and there were only 6 customers in the club between 2 & 9!
Ramping up the sexiness of the dance just before the song ends and assuring the customer that he doesn't want you to stop... "you want me to keep going, don't you? *nod nod nod*"... yup, I ripped that one off word for word, and it worked! (another $50).
I was terrified of getting on stage, as it has never been my strong suit... but i just fucked everybody with my eyeballs while repeating the same 3 poses over & over, and just kinda did the slow slutty stroll the rest of the time, and I was just fine.
I only fell once, and that was into a girl's lap as i was dancing for her & her husband. They were cool with it, surprise surprise.
All in all, a great day. I got hugs from the bartender and 2 girls I had been sitting at the bar with when I left. Lalalala.
Thank you all again, for all of your encouragement and spot-on advice! It's amazing how much it really, truly helps!

The 'wait til everyone else has been rejected' tactic sounds smart, though... I'll definitely keep that in mind the next time I work. This particular time, there were only 2 other girls present, and they were both draped all over some furniture... not real sure what that was all about, as they were bitching about his cheapness later in the DR...
