Default Not drinking alcohol at work?!

    Hey ladies,

Many of us drink at work - for many reasons, to relax, to escape, to gain confidence etc. I drink because it makes me more chatty and makes it easier to convince customers that £40 for a 3 minute lapdance (equivelant of roughly $60 I guess?) is a great bargain! Lol.
But I plan to quit drinking altogether - to focus on my health and to go back to the gym. Got a personal trainer at the ready but the hardest bit is going to STOP drinking alcohol at work. It's the habit I will struggle to break...
I know the answer in advance - it's down to your own willpower. But do you ladies have any particular tips or advise to make work easier without alcohol. I tried it the other week and I felt weird. And I used to not drink for over 2 years while doing the job so not sure why I struggle so much to break the habit this time!

Any tips/advise to make the transition easier? Do you substitute alcohol with energy drinks or coffee?

    Thanks

I've nvr been a big drinker at work, but if the habit has become deeply ingrained I think it's normal for it to feel weird when you start cutting back. I know I don't feel right if I don't get to have even a small part of my pre-work routine. Assuming that you've not become a full-blown alcoholic, I think a lot of the weirdness is in your mind, you were focusing on the fact that you didn't have a drink.

Maybe you can make the placebo effect work for you? If you do mixed drinks at work, like a screwdriver for example, tell the bartender to cut back the amt of alcohol in the drink, until eventually they're just giving you juice? Just look away while they are making it so you don't see them giving you less & less. I have nvr had this problem myself so don't really know what might help, apart from just doing it cold turkey. Good luck

I understand your struggle! My old club I was at had commission drinks for the girls. Like get a customer to buy you a 6.75 "shot" and it's just juice and you get all of the commission drink money back at the end of the night. But it was sugar rich grapefruit juice. I started with a trainer on a strict meal plan and he tolde to cut alcohol, period. So one day I brewed green tea at home and gave it to the bartender to pour as my commission drinks! Tipped her out well at the end of the night. I think it's harder now where I'm at bc it's a nude BYOB place so dudes offer up their alcohol freely. I usually just try and have maybe 3 beers a shift. Or maybe try saying you can't have beer idk. Other thoughts would help me as well!

Let the bartenders know in advance so they can make you 'virgin' drinks or try sparkling water with lime.

You could substitute alcohol for energy drinks or coffee but then you're more likely to pick up another habit/addiction.

Working alcohol-free can be done but since its something you're not used to it will take time to adjust. Good luck with your plan to get healthier!

Thanks girls, your insights make a difference to me right now.

I have an addictive personality and have been struggling with both drink & drug addiction and don't want to replace drinking with something else at work. So guess best thing is to go cold turkey - which was what I did when I didn't drink for 2 years. It's all or nothing for me.

Just wondering how I will bring out the chatterbox without a drink in my hand. The 'placebo' effect might be my answer!

    Thanks girls, appreciate your responses.

    I went cold turkey.

If you struggle with addiction perhaps you could use the support of people who understand and can help, even if you find yourself in the position of quitting but still thinking about drugs/alcohol a lot.

Total threadjack, but that I what I always charged in London.

As for the OP, well, the other girls are definitely right - get virgin drinks and pretend it is alcohol with the customers.

Other than that, if it is the effect that you are after - the chatty, salesperson thing, you just need to find a way to do that sober. The main thing is going to be getting your head around the idea that you are more charming/bubbly/personable when you are drinking. It may sound really weird - but practice your pitch and your outgoing chattiness as much as you can. Make it second nature. When you have a great night, focus on it - think about how well you did, "even though" you were sober.

Find other ways to keep your energy up - honestly, working out and eating right is a great way to do this anyway! Try doing some focused breathing/meditation before work, listen to music to pump yourself up.....and just go for it! I know that it is scary, but after a while, you will see that you don't need the alcohol to work, and that you are better off without it!
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

its going to be hard, and it may take some time, but you're basically just going to have to re-learn how to be your bubbly awesome self without all that! i used substances in every day life to deal with, well, life..but within a few months i had re-learned how to enjoy everything sober and i barely remembered what it was like before..just try not to think about it, the money will get you high! lol good luck! just focus on yourself, and chatting up the customers and try not to think about alcohol at all, its soo hard i know.

    Thanks to all replies.

As for £40 per dance, yes that's in London but also many other places.

Yes, the club is the only place I need to rely on drinks. I was t-total for 2 years then started dating an addict a year ago and got sucked back in.
I am now having to re-learn how to work without drinking.

I don't have problem with confidence outside of work. If I don't work I don't always drink. But if and when I do, it goes out of control which is why I have to stop now. I find it easier to get into character at work if I'm tipsy, so to speak...

I will take all your advise on board....and try and 'fake it til I make it'.

Thanks girls, your words of encouragement are needed..
