    Smiley Cats cats cats meow!

This is a thread for all of us to share funny/heart warming stories about our furbabies...I'll start! Haha my cat likes to climb to really high places lately, like on top of the fridge, then meow loudly and sadly until I come save him and put him back on the ground! Lmao. Oh and I was on the toilet a few hours ago, felt something weird, and looked over my cat was next to the toilet sticking his head into it next to my butt! WTFFF

I take my cat out for walks on a leash too! He's a scaredy cat so he gets really nervous outside unless it's totally quiet like at the cemetery-for anyone who is interested in walking their cat, I advise you this-at the beginning, just put em in their carrier and take em to the quietest park u can find-this seems to be the formula for success. He used to run away from the front door when I opened it. But he's gotten more curious and confident with time, now he's the cat running out the door whenever I open it! I live inside a locked building so it's not a big deal but it annoys me I always have to run after him. Then yesterday he ran out and I was like FINE CAT and just closed the door. He was meowing and pounding on the door less than a second later so I let him back in with a grin, like, that's what I thought cat

My Bengal likes to sit on the tops of doors and meow till I get out of bed to cuddle him. He also likes to get ready with me in the mornings. He sits on the toilet and chirps at me till I comb him (with his pink comb that he stole from me) and tickle his nose with a blush brush while telling him how fabulous he is. And then I have to flip him upside down and kiss his stomach.

...and I have three others that are just as bad. The one that just broke her leg has turned into the biggest spoiled brat from being carried around and babied over the last three weeks. I have to hand-feed her turkey, and she wakes me up at any hour she pleases to demand belly rubs.

I talked about this in random thread, but my next door neighbor has 2 new twin (or they look like it) kitties, beige & white stripes, they were in the window as I was passing by, so sweet, staring at me w/their little round eyes, one climbed up the screen to show off, & they played a bit..so sweet.

I once was petting a cat on his belly for a good ten minutes before he attacked my hand. That's just as good as it gets with me and cats.

my cat gets frustrated with a closed bedroom or bathroom door. so I sometime see paws under the door. or she will reach up and try to open the door handle.

My cat gets in weird moods sometimes and will flop down on her side and pull herself along the carpeted floor with her front claws that way. It's hilarious!

My little kitty cat likes to pounce on q-tips like they are live prey and kill them. Then he will meow at the defeated q-tip incessantly and carry its limp corpse around the house like a trophy.

For several months, mine developed the habit of peeing outside his litterbox. It got to the point where he was peeing every where in apartment EXCEPT his litterbox. He obviously needed to be fixed... so I took him to the vet recently and got him updated on all his shots and fixed, and now he pees where he's supposed to! Yay!

My little furball is damn near perfect in almost every way. She is friendly and doesn't run away from strangers in the house. She doesn't beg for food, in fact, she ONLY will eat her dry food and greenies treats...won't even eat tuna or chicken or milk if i give it to her. She has never gone to the bathroom outside of the litter box. She doesn't scratch the furniture, and only scratches on the posts and cardboard dealies I have for her. AND, she loves to cuddle.

The only bad part about her is that she loves to munch on some delicious, chewy wires. So, I have to make a special effort to keep small wires like those for antennas, speakers, small power bricks, etc covered up to protect them. Small price to pay for a kitty that is so good in every other way, though

I want a cat/kitten but all I hear is stories of how 'bad' they are. I know this cant be completely true.

Are there certain breeds that are better for potential first time pet/cat owners?

How much do you all spend each month on cat care?

^Cats can definitely be "bad." Especially as kittens, they can be very mischievous. If you aren't used to the way cats behave, they can be a little off-putting, particularly if you prefer more extroverted pets. Most people hate that cats can tend to claw furniture, but if you redirect this to a scratching post at an early age, you'll have better luck, especially if you put the post in common scratch areas, like the sides of couches. Some people also claim cats are always refusing to use their litter boxes. This is almost always because the litter type has been changed (non-clumping litter can be a huge respiratory irritant) or the box is not cleaned often enough. Sometimes, with male cats, it can also be that he isn't neutered.

Bengals, Bombays, and Siamese are usually a little more energetic than other breeds. I wouldn't recommend getting one as a first time owner, or without having a lot of time and space to devote to them. I think the best way to find a good cat is to go to a shelter and play with those who catch your eye, or look through the classifieds, or something like PetFinder. There are many cats and kittens free to good homes, and just as many who have low adoption fees. Just make sure you take him or her to the vet as soon as you can to check for any infections or other problems, and to get started on shots.

As for expenses, your first month would be a little more expensive because you have to start shots and get food/supplies. Most vets have package deals for all of the boosters for kittens, and spay/neuter can be done at a relatively inexpensive rate, especially if there's a low-cost program in your area. I have four cats, so it's hard for me to say how much an average month for a single cat would be, but one bag of dry Evolve food is like $11 and one container of the litter I use is about $6 (though some places mark it up to $15). Litter boxes can range anywhere from $5 to $50; bowls from $5 to $20. Toys are cheap, and my cats tend to prefer stealing hairbands and bottle caps. I'd definitely get two scratching posts though, and they're under $20 most of the time.

I'd suggest a first time cat owner adopt an adult cat, they tend to be less bouncy-off-the-walls-y.

Does anyone else have cats who go crazy when the weather gets cooler? Here in Texas, it's finally getting "cold," aka 65-75 degrees. My cats have had bushy tails all day and are running around my apartment like rabid squirrels. My bengal is also burrowing under the covers with us at night again. He and my boyfriend both radiate heat; it's nice during winter.
