I live in NYC and decided to start dancing in a city club after a long-ish break. I went to Sapphire's prepared when the bouncer stops me and says I need my ss card and id card. I pull out my passport and said I know my social security number but don't have the card with me (long story). He seemed annoyed but calls the manager and then looks at my passport says, "Wait, who is this person?" I say that the photo is from last year when i had a pixie cut (my hair is shoulder length now). I thought maybe he was joking around but then he says, "Are you even a citizen?" I'm so suprised but I really wanted to try out here so I say yes. The manager came and the bouncer was telling him that my passport isn't real while I say politely that it's my only photo id but might have other id with me. The bouncer keeps saying they can't take it because it's fake. He hands me the passport and I realize there was a smudge on my birth year. I wipe it off and the manager lets me in.
I get changed and the housemom asks me where I worked. She made copies of my passport, explained the rules, then asked me if I could work tomorrow and Saturday. I said yes and she took down my number. Then I went on stage and I barely took my dress off when the manager told me to get dressed. She said sorry, thanks for coming but we're not interested. I asked if she could say why and she said, "He only tells me yes or no."
I just don't...get it. I've worked in 5 city clubs and thought they tell you they're not interested right away, or at least before making a schedule. My friend says that maybe the bouncer recognized me or that they really thought my id was fake. I'm feeling upset about it because I had a good feeling about this place before.
