Question "Safe" exercising while recovering from surgery

So, I just had boobie surgery *again*, and now, of course, I'm not supposed to work out until six weeks later.
My fear is that I am going to lose all of the muscle tone I've worked so hard for...
I've worked especially hard for the last year, and have gotten my shape just about exactly how i want it.
I'm sure I can control my diet enough to keep the pounds off, but *shape* is another story entirely, especially at 38.
Here's what my post-surgery instruction paperwork forbids me to do:

-cardio (nothing to elevate the heart rate)
    -weight-bearing exercises
    -resistance exercises

I know from experience that it is just uncomfortable as hell to do anything that causes any real use of my chest muscles (push-ups, for instance). So, while yoga and pilates may be good options in that they are not necessarily "cardio", or "weight-bearing", or "resistance"... but I would have to avoid a lot of poses/ exercises because they exert some strain on the chest muscles.

Um, so, what? I guess I could continue the leg lifts, squats & bridges that I've always done in my down time (like while watching t.v., or whatever) but, if I'm doing them with enough intensity for them to even be worth doing, won't I be using "resistance", and "elevating my heart rate?"

Last time I had surgery, I just kinda used it as an excuse to lay out & get all smooshy. It took ayear afterwards to get to where I am now, and I don't want to get that far behind again.

Any genius ideas? I know some of you have got 'em... TIA!

get a ballet dvd and do it without any arm movement. even if u do lose muscle tone btw, youll build it back really fast.

Your not supposed to raise your blood pressure which could happen with any over exertion. I'd just eat healthy and get lots of protein. I'm 44 and haven't really been able to work out much over the last year and a half since of my bottomed out implant and my health and my body looks great. Not as awesome as if I could workout like I use to but you don't want to risk not healing properly so I'd be careful.

I think walking is the only really viable option.... you don't want to ruin your investment over 6 weeks of not being able to work out. it w illl be worth it

Y'all are so right... I guess I've just conditioned myself to feel like something is not quite right if I'm not working out. I've forgotten what it feels like to not be constantly pushing myself.

I just underwent surgery myself. I am over 30 and I know what u mean about not being comfortable without constantly pushing urself. I feel like I need to be constantly working out, yet my doctor has told me not to overdo it

i say do what your doctor says - if you compromise your surgery you may have to have it done again and lose more time and money

I'm laying low, though it pains me every morning when I wake up *not* to have Jillian Michaels get me going. Never thought I'd miss her!
