    Default another skin question..

so i have these little tiny under-the-skin blemishes, they aren't red and they aren't blackheads, they just look like little bumps! just on my lower cheeks and jaw area.
i've stopped putting on makeup every day, and that's helped tremendously and i'm using honey masks which are great for drawing out bacteria..steams are good for opening up the pores and cleaning them out i hear, and im trying to drink more water and eliminate processed sugar/bad carbs.
    any other suggestions?

background :i oil cleanse with really pure olive oil, then moisturize with burt's bees night cream and then use a sunscreen daily. i'm picky about my makeup, just using bb cream and talc-free powder when i do actually put it on. i just want nice smooth skin ..im ok with an occasional pimple, who cares, but these little never-ending bumps are getting to me

I think you should incorporate a chemical exfoliant. Though jawline breakouts are often hormonal, yours sounds like it might just be related to the rate your skin is turning over. I started getting those sort of bumps on my forehead, and tretinoin cream (the generic of Retin A) helped a lot. I've also added Stridex pads one to two times a day and have seen good results. That forum I linked you to a while back preaches Stridex pads (packaged in the red box), so I finally tried them out. I have sensitive skin, so I don't use them the full 3x/day as recommended, but 1-2/day for a week has already shown results. If you don't want to get the prescription for tretinoin (I haven't tried any OTC tretinoin products, so I can't recommend anything), I'd say go with the Stridex.

My skin is very sensitive, so you may be able to tolerate it a bit better, but I have the weakest percentage you can get, I think, and I still only use it twice a week, very rarely three times. It helps a ton, but I get really peely from it if I use it every other day or anything like that.

Using which hazel (alcohol free) will help to sooth and bring down the bumps as well as clear/shrink the pours. Also, using a natural, oil like Jojoba oil (or rose hip seed or coconut oil) on your skin will help. Jojoba oil is amazing! It won't make your skin break out or get worse as it is very similar to your skin's natural oils and it's great for irritation and conditions like eczema, dermatitis etc (so it's very soothing and won't irritate your poor inflamed skin). If you don't already, drink ACV in warm water-it's amazing for your skin and has antifungal properties as well. Try to drink A LOT of water to flush the toxins from your system and try to eat clean in case it's something in your diet that's caused it.

It could be a slight allergic reaction. Have you changed your diet, perfume, cleanser or washing powder etc lately (it may be a reaction to something i.e. a rash, or hives)?

Is it weird that I'm curious about everyone's skin now? Let's all take photos of our cheeks and put them on here for reference. Lol

^When your liver isn't in good shape it can really effect your immune system etc. Baby it! Take some milk thistle/turmeric tablets etc (you can buy combo tablets i.e. liver detox type tablets or shots from a pharmacy or health shop). If you're bored, you could make a beet kvass (probiotic tonic) with beetroot, sea salt and water and leave it to ferment for a week (you can add a starter culture, but don't need to, or you can add apples or carrots to sweeten it) or add beetroot to salads, roasts, freshly squeezed juices/smoothies (either at a juice bar or at home) it's great for your liver and general health .

^I know there are a lot of DIY microdermabrasion and mask recipes containing baking soda floating around online, but it is actually very bad for your skin, and many scrubs like the one you mention literally do tear skin

Re: manual exfoliation, it is often more troublesome than chemical, as chemical is gentler and can be done daily in many cases. I've heard good things about clarisonics for manual exfoliation, but even those should only be used up to two times a week in most cases. I stick to chemical exfoliation and perhaps manually exfoliate very lightly once a week with a wash cloth, but that's it.

oil cleanses and honey masks are great! I used to oil cleanse but it was irritating to steam my face and use a new washcloth everyday...and I'm lazy I guess. Have you tried a clay mask? It's good for exfoliating and getting gunk out of your pores. I use my own recipe bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, rose water, raw honey, aloe vera, non pore clogging oil (i use safflower and hemp seed), etc. You can also use brown sugar crystals for extra exfoliation. I keep this in the fridge and use it daily. If I were you I'd use a clay mask once or twice a week. It does wonders. I used it on my boyfriends face once and his skin was so smooth and soft after and it seemed to clear up some blackheads on his nose. He hated it though because he has a beard and it was itchy while drying on it..lol

One more thing, my skin is really sensitive and it didn't like olive oil AT ALL. I get those deep pimples from olive oil and coconut oil in my experience. I started using safflower oil mixed with grapeseed oil and I only get pimples if I neglect to wash my face of makeup for nights in a row. Jojoba oil is supposedly good as well but it's too expensive for my taste. Try using different oils until you find the right one and maybe consider adding a bit of castor oil (all natural, not from the drugstore) for extra cleansing. Good luck!

I've never tried peels, so I can't say much about them, but I have had the glycolic peels sold here recommended to me: http://www.makeupartistschoice.com/ If you're combining it with other chemical exfoliation, you may want to alternate nights till you see how much your skin can take. I think I want to try one to see how it helps some mild discoloration. Let me know if you end up trying one.

@robotron: I agree with most of what you said, but sugar is really harsh for facial skin. It's fine for your body, but it can lead to the same tears as most other scrubs.

wow you just gave me an epiphany..just doubled checked and a site said do NOT use olive oil..maybe thats whats been doing it! cuz i also get deep cysts. they said hazelnut or grapeseed is good in place of castor ( can't find castor, at my wits end). thanks for that! no more olive oil for me

olive, how do you hack the ACV?? i poured some in my tea and tried to mask the taste with a teabag but oohh my god..it was strong and it burned! i think i'd rather take it like a shot, with a chaser! what do you put it in to make the taste go away? still gonna take it though, i hear garlic is also good.
getting on Birth control too, i'm going to give it one more shot, because like tuesday said i think its hormonal.
thank you all SO much, i'm implementing all these ideas, its gotten a lot better already

love this site! I do mild peels all the time, tca is really strong and will help your discoloration a lot but doing a weekly 10% glycolic or pumpkin peel will make your skin just look more refreshed, no downtime.

btw has anyone noticed a difference between cream and gel retin a? my gel retin a made my skin look great but my new derm prescprescribed me cream and I swear its destroying my skin!!!

just went and got apricot kernel oil, castor, jojoba, and grape seed from the coolest natural grocery store i've ever been in. can't wait to try these guys out, i've just been using olive oil from the store ( BIG MISTAKE, for my skin anyways, obviously). anybody had any luck with tea tree oil? i haven't used it much in the past but i know its for acne.
used retin A last night, and my skin is looking way better.
think im going to do my new oil cleansing routine daily, retin A 2 or 3 times a week ( til i run out and have to see a doctor for another script), and then get those peels you guys are talking about and do those once or twice a week..maybe the week that i don't do retin A? ahh skin care is so confusing sometimes haha. i just got a good book about skin, very short and to the point and he advocates peels BIG TIME. says that's the only sure-fire way to keep your skin from aging the best without cosmetic surgery because it gets down to the dermis.
my skin is dry, but acneic (sp?), as well as a bit sensitive. so i gotta be careful. i really don't want to dry it out and age it though, ill take acne over wrinkles if i have to..i'd just like to have neither one if i can help it

EDIT: to charlotte, i always use the clear gel retin A..i hear the cream is better for dry skin and the gel is better for oily skin
