    Default Sore Knees?

I have been dancing for four weeks now at five days a week and my knees are killing me! It started after a few days and I assumed that the pain would go away as I got used to dancing, but it's constant. When I'm not working, I try my best not to bend my knees because it hurts so bad.

I've started taking a multivitamin and occasionally enjoy a hot bath with epsom salts. Next month I will be going to the doctor for a general physical but I'm pretty sure she won't have anything helpful to say regarding this issue. Anyone else with this problem? What do you do for relief?

    Stay off of it!

I have problems from "overuse" (says my doc). The only thing that helps are pain relievers and rest.

Also keep in mind that you may have injured it. You need to go to the dr asap if it hurts that badly.

I have pretty bad knees, and I noticed that the way I dance affects them a lot. There was a thread a few months back in which someone reminded those of us who were having major issues that raising and lowering with your knees pointed at odd angles can really screw them up. I practically face-palmed because I know that, but I completely forgot about it during my first weeks back from a break. Once I started really taking the time to make sure my knees were in line with my toes as I raised and lowered, my knees improved dramatically. It really does make a huge difference. If you watch other girls, they are probably taking a while to get up from any floor work they do. You need to do the same. You have to basically position yourself in a squat before you stand up to make sure your weight will be distributed evenly and your knees and toes are aligned.

Other than that, two other things wear my knees pretty quickly: getting up and down on stage often and holding my weight with my knees partially bent when I'm dancing for someone (kind of like if you were to be in the process of sitting down, but you couldn't go past a 45 degree angle). My fixes are mostly about being a lazy dancer. You won't see me get to the floor without a post or pole to slide my back down, or without doing a spin and landing lightly on my knees, and I almost always use something to help me up. I also don't do anything in lap dances that makes my knees burn. I went from not being able to walk on my own after work (literally--my boyfriend had to help me up the stairs) to being mildly sore by implementing these changes.

My knees stayed bruised up when I first started dancing. I thought it would get better with time but no the pain got worse the more I danced while on my knees.

Best thing to do is stay off your knees as much as possible. Or try boots or stockings or leg Warmers that cover your knees and give a little extra padding
