I used to love horror movies but I'm too much of a scaredy cat now a days. The actual Halloween horror series was really good. Saw was real good too.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre ('74) This movie is beautifully shot for such a horrible movie. Also: I love bar-b-que, so this get points for making it nasty. Also: it's local. Damn Texans!
A Nightmare on Elm Street ('84) Still makes me scared to sleep. Freddy is a funny guy, though.

Ooh, yeah love Sleepy Hollow, I forgot that one! Yeah, I love Halloween too, there's a huge costume/prop store nearby my place ^, they're open 24/7 after the middle of Oct.
Love the original Fri.13th, I remember watching it in a bar, very early in the morning, drinking w/the 3rd shift guys from the local factory who just got off work..

HALLOWEEEN 1978!!! I get wet to Michael Myers!

"Be The Best, F!ck The Rest"- P.P.

The original nighmare on elmstreet had me sleeping in the bathtub for 2 days( because my parents refused to let me sleep in their room) and that was where I felt safe. I wouldn't watch the exorcist til I was 24. Original Halloween. Older horror movies are my fave. The newer ones are just gory which isn't scary to me.
Suspiria
Mum & Dad
The Hitcher ('84)
The Strangers
Misery
The Last House On The Left ('72) - one of my fav movies

I will tell you I have a strong disdain for rape in movies, and by extension any violence against women used as entertainment. Iron Man 3's use of the love interest as a pawn who gets caught and tortured is degrading and made me not like the movie.
But, the rape scene in LHOTL is perfect. It is so soul crushingly horrible, it is justified. A piece of me died inside as she gave up and took it, then as it was all over, proceeded to walk into the water to drown herself. If you feel this is a scene that must be in your movie, you must place the audience in the shoes of the victim as Wes did. It must be awful and horrible and in no way entertaining.
I have not seen the remake, but I can't imagine it being an improvement.

I'll go a little off track and mention a movie I always watch Halloween, though it isn't a scary movie: Rocky Horror.

I have a weird thing for crime/serial killer movies - More thriller than horror. Like Se7en, Zodiac, The Bone Collector, etc.
“The irony of commitment is that it's deeply liberating -- in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around like rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life.”
- Anne Morris

Good call! The 45 mins or so of them torturing her is painful and shot poorly (you can actually see a cameram as she runs past him in the woods) but the scene in the bathtub where she castrates him was great and it's as if they suddenly learned how to make movies, the shot through the mirror is really fucking cool. Plus as a guy, they way she seduces him is a huge turn on, but at the same time, you know what she's about to do and it's cringing, but you so badly want her to get her revenge. It's great!
I assume you are talking about the old 70's one. This was also remade and I haven't given the remake a watch.
On a light hearted note, some more modern Halloween movies I love to watch are Shaun of the Dead and Grindhouse.

'Sorority Babes at the Slime Ball Bowl-a-rama'
'The Fly' original 1958 version
'Zombie Strippers'
and of course 'Bachelor Party Massacre', where the crazed killer cuts my tits off with a machete !
Love chainsaw massacre, the strangers

^ My friend and I snuck and watched the original when we were teenagers( worst thing a teen could do) She told me it was a porno. I didn't know they made a remake. I'll have to get it!

- Totally not scary, but Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler. I watched it every year on Disney Channel as a kid. I loooove the "I put a spell on you" number.
- Nightmare Before Christmas, again not scary.. I thought it was and wouldn't watch it until I got to high school
- A Haunting in Connecticut
- Insidious
- Killer Klowns From Outer Space
- Dawn of the Dead
- Zombieland
The new Evil Dead actually did scare me (possessed Mia creeped me the fuck out) but towards the end it draaaaaaaaaaaaaaagged.

I must admit, when my daughter was little I loved watching goosebumps with her. She was often too scared to watch (but I loved em)! I sometimes see them on now and again and watch because it reminds me of when she was little. She still hates scary movies. The best one was the dummy one. Those things freak me out.

Also: not a true horror movie, but ever since I've seen "Mothman Prophecies" I am scared to drive/walk over a bridge..not to mention I've seen a documentary on how many bridges are badly in need of work or replacemnt

- Practical Magic
- Hocus Pocus
- BEETLEJUICE
- The Adams Family
- Young Frankenstein ("It's FRONKENSTEEN!")
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Because...Tim Curry)
- It (Because...Tim Curry <3)
And the newest addition to my yearly Halloween movie ritual, Tucker and Dale VS. Evil![]()

Actually, I would have been better off financially to have danced all those days and nights instead of being stuck in production. Fame don't pay da billz !!!WOW you were IN that one! Melonie, movie star, that's great
By far the best part of the experience was meeting the special effects guy ( his credits include 'real' movies like 'Alien' ) who had to spend hours getting my boobs ready for the machete scenes ! All of that boob action got me ready for 'something else' as well ^wink wink ^
The ones I like to watch again around this time are
Alien (the first one really is more of a horror film where the followup was more of an action film imo)
The Thing (from the 80s with Kurt Russell)
Dawn of the Dead (the remake by Zach Snyder)
Army of Darkness
Planet Terror (because an assault rifle with a grenade launcher as a prosthetic leg is just awesome!)
several others, especially assorted old slasher flicks whenever i find them.
As for Tucker and Dale vs Evil, I love that movie so much that I don't limit it to just halloween! So sad that it never got a wide release at the theaters like it should have =/
