    Hey, now.

You've got to understand that we are all suspicious of people who just randomly pop up on the site and start asking questions like this.

But to answer your question (since you so rudely decided to tell me that I'm not allowed to participate in your thread without being "helpful"), a lot of different professions have substance abuse issues within their confines, although I do think that our money and general lax in scheduling would facilitate substance abuse issues. I don't doubt that there could be an epidemic, although I would not go as far as to accuse anyone of anything.

I have a group of friends I go out with that are lawyers/recent law school graduates, and they're always doing drugs. On any given night, a handful will be rolling, and the rest will be doing coke, all while finishing multiple bottles in bottle service somewhere. On the flip side, I never get offered drugs in my current club.

When I was younger and first started stripping I guess I did go through a short coke phase, but I had done cocaine prior. The industry neither introduced me to cocaine, nor did I start stripping due to a desire to buy it. I guess I was never "addicted" to it - I did it fairly frequently for 3 months one Summer out of boredom and stopped when school started up again in the Fall.

It's been my experience that drugs are pretty much everywhere, if you know how to spot them. I have very few friends (by few I can think of maybe 2?) that have never tried some hard drug at some point in their lives.

I thought I'd see other dancers snorting coke in the bathroom like you see in movies but most girls don't even drink. If they do have drug or alcohol addictions I'm not aware.

I do however see a lot of chain smoking so definitely some nicotine addictions.

I find myself drinking on each shift more than I'd like to. But I never get drunk just a buzz then I stop. I buy my own drink the first one then customers will ask to buy me drinks so I really don't have to use my own money for it.

i had a very bad pill addiction years prior to dancing..i hit rock bottom my second month into stripping living in my car with no food no money and so dope sick i was contemplating whether or not i had died and this was hell..so i went to a methadone clinic, tapered myself down and im currently on suboxone. i realized this was stupid and i was going to get even further involved with all my new-found money and it would get worse if i didn't quit NOW. i didn't want to get into the habit of getting high before each shift, and i wanted to save money and live my life for me and my kid, not some stupid substance. so stripping kind of saved me. im trying to get off suboxone right now and be totally free..haven't touched a pill in 2 years this month i won't even touch alcohol now

^ I'm always so grateful when you share that part of your history, Simone! It not only shows that you're such a remarkably strong woman, but that this industry can be a powerfully transformative tool for women to IMPROVE their lives. Stripping isn't a "rabbit hole" like so many people think, and you are proof of this.

^It can be with certain individuals though, mostly younger girls with pre-existing substance problems or/tendencies. I had a friend whose partying evolved into an alcohol/coke problem shortly after starting dancing. I've also seen girls on pills at work, one club I worked at the DJ was also one of the club dealers. A lot of drug use that I see is highly correlated with boredom. More girls do drugs when the club is empty and there is no one to potentially make money from I have noticed. I get offered them way more on slow shifts. It also depends on the club, I currently work at 2: one which is very tolerant of drugs. extras, etc, both with patrons and dancers, and another which is pretty intolerant with both issues, so realistically the whole spectrum exists, as in any field. I think the gritty side is just a lot more expected and show in strip club land. Me myself, I smoke a lot of weed, but still am very functional (I love to clean and organize and work when I'm stoned) and more use it as a de-stressor. It's like coffee for me: I can get kind of cranky without it, but it's nothing I can't power through. I also don't dance to support my weed habbit...it's far from a huge expense lol

^This is very true, it is completely contingent upon the individual, and for a lot of clubs girls risk an increased exposure to substances than if they were working at The Gap or something. However, I think the same can be said for the service industry in general, as well as any part of the entertainment industry. And apparently my local law school. LOL.

I know exactly what you're talking about, I worked as a shooter girl for one night and could NOT do it. All that drinking is so so so bad for you, I think I drank like 12 shots that night! More than I've ever drank working as a dancer, I was Shit.faced. At least as a dancer you can deny drinks and your money doesn't usually suffer. It doesn't surprise me your law school is full of cokeheads...those types are usually work hard play harder kinds of people...all my business/accounting/marketing firm friends are the same way!

Why do you want to know? What is significant about the issue to you personally?

How about sharing some of the stuff you've seen and opening up about yourself before throwing out what is a fairly bluntly worded question about a sensitive topic.

Also, there is a search function and many threads already devoted to addiction on the site already so perhaps you could use that first if all you are doing is collecting info, (instead of interacting with us), out of simple courtesy.

I like a drink and always have, long before I was a dancer. However most clubs I work in require me to drive there so I don't drink there at all. Others I can drink there but I never get drunk, just tipsy, so I don't feel drunk but just get a warmer fuzzy feeling and find myself a bit more chatty.

I smoked weed occasionally whilst at university, it was just what everyone did!

Other than that, I have never used/abused any other substance.

It's interesting that you've made two posts asking for strippers' stories about drug abuse because you're a dancer who's struggled with it, yet you haven't shared any personal stories or even posted here since last month. Did you get the 'info' you wanted?

Regardless if this is for a school paper, or article, or whatever, I think it's an interesting topic to discuss, especially considering the stigma of strippers and drugs/addiction. I have an addictive personality, so when I realized that I was caught up in doing drugs and drinking with other girls at work, I left the club and went to a club where I heard there was an absolute zero tolerance policy and I learned that I should not become TOO friendly with other dancers because I get sucked in really easily.

I did develop a crazy gambling problem when I started working in Vegas though...

Well, I currently do pills. Mucinex to be specific. I've been taking about 5-20 in one night, depending on how long I've gone without doing them. It's just for recreation but I know it can get out of control if I don't watch it.

I also have an addictive personality...when I drink, I'm a fish. When I smoke weed, it's bowl after bowl and I typically combine all three. So....it's just a small part of me. Being 18, I'm still experimenting. And it doesn't get in the way of my dancing or safety so I choose my nights on the stuff carefully.

I have a fairly stable life, though, despite my bulimia and this pill popping, binge drinking, binge-purging lifestyle I've fallen into. My family life and relationship with my best friend and long term boyfriend are stable. So, it's not an issue.....yet at least. Be blessed, lovelies. <3

OP, here's the thing every week we get people who either assume all strippers are whores/druggies, etc or someone claiming to be writing a research paper, etc. Because of that people are very suspicious of new posters who start by asking sensitive questions.

Incidentally I have worked with girls with addictions but have worked normal jobs with addicts too. However I never did drugs except for prescription for medical conditions (none now but mostly allergy or arthritis related)and I smoked a joint a few times. I never did any of this at work though and I never even drank at work (I rarely drink). My job related addiction was the money and it's why many get into it.

When I started dancing I had a pretty heavy Ketamine(special K) addiction which did initially get worse once I started dancing and making more money.I was coming home from work and then binging on drugs until at least midday the next day.But I was 20 then so i guess you can get away with doing shit like that when your young.
Anyway after about about 6 months of dancing I decided that I had to change my lifestyle for the sake of my health so I moved to a different city where I didnt have loads of friend who also had massive drug habits. Luckly since I was dancing it was easy for me to move and get a new job straight away and if i hadnt started dancing this would have been much harder.
Eventually I started working in other countries and then i stopped doing drugs(aside from a bit of coke every now and then).I only take ketamine when im back in England now(which is only a few weeks a year) luckily its not a very widely available drug, in most places people have barely heard of it.

I do drink a lot at work although i am rarely really drunk.I remain profesional for the most part.I dont drink in the day though or when im alone.I a (heavy) social drinker rather than an alcoholic.

I usually am just a heavy social drinker at clubs, parties, etc for the time i'm there & usually wind up paying for it the next day w/ a nasty hangover :/ I am trying to train myself to only have 2 or 3 shots a night & cut myself off. As for other addictions, mostly the constant battle with retail therapy LOL . That's getting better since I hardly have money anymore so I don't buy it unless I'm in dire need for it.
