Default No contract cell phone carriers???

I was wondering if anyone has one of these plans and their experiences? I'm most interested in Verizon, straight 10, boost or virgin. I've had sprint for about 10 years and my ex paid and we shared minutes but he stopped a few years ago( even though we broke up he still paid 2 years) any ways I travel to work so the service has to be excellent. I've had excellent service with sprint( so I was thinking of going with straight talk and getting a phone that uses sprint towers( that's how they work). I'm just sick of paying 80 a month for nothing with sprint. I don't have a smart phone( I bring a computer when I travel) but I think since you buy the phone I will buy a smart phone. I've done so much research over the last week I could write a paper on the cell industry. The only thing I really don't know is which one would be best for someone who travels. So Any experiences those of you who've tried these services and travel out of your area would be great! Thanks!

i love my straight talk. very, very few places where i've had no service. 45 a month for unlimited talk, text, and internet. but then, i only do prepaid, i dont want a contract or anything with my name attached to it, or a bill.

^ Thanks Simone. That's the one I'm leaning towards. Do you know what towers your phone goes off and what kind is it? Also do you travel out of state?

I have a T-mobile prepaid phone that I use just for dancing/custies. It's not a smart phone, just a basic talk and text. I've used two
different plans, first one was a $100 dollar plan (1000 minutes) that lasted 365 days at .10 cents a minute for talk or .10 cents for a text message
until you run out of funds. I would average 3 months between refills, so $33 a month. The new T-mobile plan I'm on is $30 dollars a month for 1500 talk
or text (with 30MB of web surfing that I don't use). This plan MUST be recharged every 30 days to keep active, I like this plan better because of the 1500
    included minutes.

It depends on your phone. CMA goes off at&t or tmobile and CDMA goes off Verizon or spint. If you tell me the name of the phone I can tell you. Lol, that's how much research I've done.

If you don't use it a lot, TracFone is the cheapest. You only pay for the minutes you use. There are no monthly fees.

I've been a Virgin Mobile customer for about six years now and I love them. Btw, they are owned by sprint and run off of their towers so if you're having good experiences with them, I would imagine they'd be the same with Virgin. I very rarely ever NOT have service and I live in a pretty rural area. Even when I traveled between Illinois and California a couple years ago, my service was still great. I pay $35 a month for unlimited text, internet, etc. but only get 300 mins to work with. To be honest, I use my phone quite a bit and have only ran of out minutes twice in the past two years that I've stayed with this particular plan...but I think for only $45 it's unlimited everything.

^ See I did research on boost and virgin and both got bad reviews??? I know sprint owns them but I'm convinced all the big carriers that have these cheap pay as you go plans aren't going to give priority of towers to the clustomers paying 35-45 unlimited when sprint is charging 130 for unlimited. I even went into a sprint store and gave them a spiel about how I've been a customer for 10 years and don't want to add my daughter so I was thinking boost or virgin since she'll be 18 soon and I don't want to pay then and they told me they don't use all the towers. The map shows this. So I don't know, I do know one gets better reviews than the other so maybe I'll try. I think I'm leaning more towards straight talk and getting a sprint phone. Since they partner with walmart I think they should be good since walmart wouldn't want a bunch of negative feedback. The phones are so limited though.

Yeah trac phone is owned by the same company that has straight talk. I had a trac phone for a month 4 years ago and it went off Verizon towers but I never traveled with it. I know they've gotten bigger and rent towers from all the major carriers I believe U.S cellular owns them and they are the largest cell carrier in the U.S.

I was wrong they are not a subsidiary of U..S, They do indeed own straight talk, net 10, trac phone, and many other small carriers.
