Default Thinking of wearing fake lashes - help?

So I've never worn fake lashes at work and I have no experience with them. My eyelashes are moderately long as is so I usually just go with good mascara, but I know a lot of girls swear by them. I go for a pretty classy but glam look. Dramatic smokey eye, pink blush, rhinestone choker, clip in extensions that add a few inches of length, french manicure, etc. I think lashes may go along with the look, so perhaps I should give it a try. Is it worth it?

If I decide to try some, where can I get some? I see them sold at cvs and walgreens - are those cheap brands, or will they suffice? Or should I get them somewhere else like a beauty supply? Does it matter where I get them? And is there is specific glue to make them stay on all night?

    Thanks ladies!

Warning: Fake eyelashes can be very addicting I tend to like the ones that I find at beauty supply stores. They usually have a better selection and many different styles to choose from.

I pick it up when I am at MAC. Ardell is good too. That can be found at Sally's and a few drug stores...

Duo lash adhesive is great, IMO. I find it at Sally's or Ulta. Most of the glues that come with lashes aren't worth a damn, so even if your lashes come with an adhesive, I definitely recommend getting the Duo glue anyway. There are a few different varieties. I use the blue bottle, but the pink or green would be fine too.

Ardell lashes are my favorite. They have a huge variety, are inexpensive, can be bought individually or in multi-packs, and are sturdy enough to be reused. Sephora brand lashes are okay, and Makeup Forever has some very pretty options, but I almost always go with Ardell.

False lashes get easier the more you wear them. I used to be hopeless with them, but I can apply them rather quickly now. They can get a bit annoying by the end of the night, but I think they can really make your eyes sexier and more able to stand out in club lighting.

I would highly recommend NOT using the clear glue you find. It smells awful and in my experience, always makes my eyes water and sting. DUO is great. It's white and dries clear.

False eyelashes are sooooo easy once you get used to applying them. Don't wait until you're in the dressing room to try them out, practice applying them at home and try different styles! I personally love the Ardell double up series that you can find at Sallys.

sally's has the best selection for the cheapest amount that i've seen, and i never go to work without wearing my falsies some tricks though, if you have small or almond shaped eyes you'll want to cut the inner corners off..and always look up when applying them to get them as close to your lash line as possible..and curl your eyelashes together, if you curl your natural ones before it can be harder to get it right into the lash line. i agree with the white eyeliner that turns clear, love that stuff. i wouldn't mess with the black liner when you are first starting out, i don't even dare use that. itll take some practice but totally worth it.
one of the problems i've faced it eyelashes being torn out because i used too much glue..so don't use a lot, and always be sooo careful taking them off with a good makeup remover or olive/coconut/avocado oil. my lashes got ripped right out when i first started using them

I'd recommend getting individual eyelash extensions or buying the clusters and applying them yourself. they don't peel like strips do which is really inconvenient when you are doing long blocks of time with one guy. my strips would frequently peel on their own throughout the night but sweat dripping on them, cigarette smoke irritating my eyes causing them to water, or taking a shot (my eyes water during shots!) would aggravate the situation and there are few turn offs worse than having your fake eyelashes come off at once. indivudals don't do that and stay on for a really long time. diy clusters last a week for me and prof extensions last 2-4 weeks. you can also use strip glue for the individuals if you want a more gentle glue.

beauty supply stores are fine. sallys has duralash clusters in bulk which I love.

I get very sad if I have to work without eyelashes. All my confidence is gone and my eye shadow is suddenly worthless .. I swear, eyelashes sell lap dances. LOL I don't like the super long, super thick draq queenish ones, usually a 138 in any brand is what I wear.

I use hair glue/track glue for extentions to put them on. It works extremely well, it's inexpensive and a tiny bottle lasts forever. I get my lashes from the beauty supply store for .99-1.29 as opposed to getting the same thing from Walgreens for ~$5. I think lashes from MAC are around $15 or so, I've only worn them once, not worth it unless you're constantly wearing the same pair (I throw mine away every night).

eta: Also, when it comes to trimming them (usually just a tiny bit is necessary for comfort), I usually trim the back a little as opposed to the inner corner. Leaving the smaller lashes near the front intact makes the transition from your natural lashes to the false lashes a little smoother. Honestly, no one but me probably notices, but I think it looks better.

I tend to buy my lashes online in bulk from China which may not be useful for you (usually with the clear strip but still dramatic lash look most realistic IRL if you go cheapo bulk), but if you get addicted it becomes a godsend (you probably will become addicted).

Or like Tuesdaymarie suggested: Ardell is incredible and carries a fuckton of options and if youre careful, very easy to re-use as well and many discount options online if you go bulk also.

super seconding Duo, I try to deviate every so often and hate myself each time.Seriously, cant echo enough to toss out whatever comes with your lashes.

Holy shit! I forgot about this thread and just came back to see all this very useful info! Thanks so much, everyone.

If I started off with the whole lash strip instead of individuals (which I'll probably try soon), what can I use to be able to take them off without it ripping out my lashes?! I don't want MY lashes to get thinner!

They're usually ready to come off by the end of the night if you just take the inner corner and lightly pull. If that doesn't seem to work, I take baby oil (mineral oil) in a cotton ball, apply to the adhesive area, and work the lash a bit looser.

Soak them with warm water. That will soften the glue and you will be able to take them off.
Use duo and take a Qtip with the head cut off or the end of a skinny makeup brush or a bobby pin to apply a small dot of glue onto the lash then wait for the glue to get a little tacky THEN apply.
Not worth it to get MAC btw and yes, DUO all day!

Makeup remover on a qtip rubbed into the lashline to remove fake lashes.

I stupidly pulled mine off when I first started wearing them but realized I was probably damaging my natural lashes so I started using makeup remover to loosen the adhesive.

I just yesterday bought ELF individual lashes, for 1.00! I can't find my tweezers to use them though. They come w/their own glue..

Do you ladies re-use your fake lashes or just wear them one time and throw away?

If you have good lashes, dont get the cheap ones!!! My friend used to get them glued on at the nail shop and lost all her lashes after a few applications. You can usually find groupons for the extensions done by a salon that will not rip them out tho, i am thinking about doing this also.

Eye lash extensions rip out your natural eye lashes. There's just no way around it. WHen you're sleeping on them, it just does.

i hate the way false lashes feel so i sometimes use this product called 'better than false lashes' by too faced, they make your lashes long and look more natural than the false lashes

^^Yes, I use a product similar to this right now. YOu apply that white undercoat to lashes then the black over coat. I like the one from lancome. This does bring out lashes a lot. Too bad extensions rip them out, I really wanted them.. (lol)

i swear by fake lashes as well. a good tip is to apply the glue (DUO!) and then shake the lash gently for about 15 seconds. the glue will be tackier and will stick faster. there's a cheap drug store nearby that I get my ardell lashes at for about 3 bucks, but sometimes i stop at a cvs or sally's to get some. i reuse mine until they start to look raggedy, but sometimes i can make em last for two weeks! the expensive ones are hardly ever worth it, i would only buy them for a themed costume party or somesuch. after a few days of common wear, i get really used to them. i find that less than an hour later, i forget i'm wearing them anymore. i take them off with a q-tip moistened with jojoba oil, which is my makeup remover of choice, but sometimes they are ready to peel off. i'm good at applying them so i hardly lose an eyelash if i do.

If I get the ones that come in one strip (instead of individuals) and use the DUO glue and soak them off with warm water at the end of the night, will my real eyelashes still rip out?

Hardly. I wear strip lashes every night and the only time it pulled my natural eyelashes out is when I messed up the glue application and too big a dollop of glue fixed itself to one or two of my natural lashes. Since then I'm a lot better at using them

If the fake eyelashes are gonna have problems with detaching, it will start at the corners. So I put the thinnest line of glue that I can across the entire strip, then very carefully use the tip of the glue applicator to put a very very tiny extra gluebead at each end of the strip.

Some brands have those funny looking pink tweezers which help me a lot. Just use them to grab the fake eyelashes at the corner, not too close to the strip part, and if you're like me they will make the application a lot easier without your fingers getting in the way. You could probably use regular tweezers, but don't pinch the lashes too hard with them. It's easy to make those lashes get all bent out of shape and stuck in weird directions.

Falsies always look bigger in the box than they do on your face. If you're having trouble deciding, get the bigger ones.

Every time I'm halfway through the process of applying lashes, I like to stop and look at my eyes. The one eye with the falsies looks so doelike and enchanting, and then I see my other normal eye and it's like BLEHH beady lil derp eye. lol

It's true once you start using them you will never want to go back!!
