    Default Hiring a tax accountant?

So I've been dancing for 2 years and have yet to file taxes on it, but I know I 'have' to so I'm going to. My dad used to prepare my taxes back when I waitresses, but I can't have him do it now that I dance because 1) I haven't admitted to him that I dance, and 2) as an 'independent contractor' it's a lot more complicated. I want to hire a tax accountant. Does anyone have experience with this? How much could I find a good / decent one for? I assume as a dancer that a tax accountant would be work the money, but I have no idea where to look. I'm planning on saving all my receipts from now on that are work-related expenses to see if they're deductible. Anyone with experience with tax accountants, please share!

Are you close with any of the girls at work? A recommendation from a fellow dancer would be your best bet since that accountant will likely be not only accepting of your job, but also familiar enough with the industry to be a real asset with deductions and such.

I also will need to hire an accountant this year, the last 2 years I have used turbo tax but I know I am doing it all wrong so before i get in trouble I need one too. I like shanna's idea of asking someone you work with, the only one at my club I really trust is the owner so I might ask him. I also think its important to find one who doesnt discriminate against what we do for a living, no hidden grudges or anything...I hope this wont cost an arm and a leg!

Thanks ladies! I'm not sure if any of the girls at work even file, I guess I'll ask my managers and my agent!

I recommend Liz - she's posted here before and has helped a few get caught up. She's usually responsive to email questions (Unless on a cross-country motorcycle trip...)

It's just that some of the quotes I got via Google search were much higher.

I saw this page for someone who is adult industry friendly:

    http://www.taxdomme.com/

I don't know anything about her, but it sounds like she has a lot of experience working with adult entertainers.

Thanks! I texted my agent about it and he says he has 2 accountants. I assume they'll know what they're doing, but I'm still keeping my options open.

in the absence of receiving an industry related recommendation, in general the type of local accountant you should be looking for is one who specializes in 'small business' clients.

I got my guy from a girl at work and he does a couple other girls in addition to her. He was absolutely fantastic and knew exactly what should be also included in deductions.
