Question Time to upgrade (cpu) ?

I dont know much about computers, but this one is pretty old and I was wondering if its just particular components that need to be upgraded, or the entire computer. I have the fastest internet at&t uverse offers, and these are the specs Im working with:

    Microsoft XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2

    Intel(R)
    Premium(R) 4 CPU 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz,
    1.00 GB of RAM

I use a Logitech C920 and the encoder but still the quality looks bad n sm, and I lag quite bit (more than 5 seconds is common for me)

Also, when I click any link on my sm model page, a popup ad happens.

Thank you in advance for any advice you may have!

I'm not the best at computers, but if your getting pop ups u should prob check out the computer health thread and check for viruses and ways to clean ur pc before u go upgrading.

I have zero experience upgrading individual components but if you have the funds I would definitely get a newer computer. I recently got a new one (upgrading from a 7 year old desktop running Vista with 2 GB RAM... even that was running at 85-100% CPU most of the time so I can't imagine what you must be going through!) and it has made suuuuuuch a big difference. I'd get a new one with at least 4 GB RAM, preferably more (sometimes you can add more later, for example it'll say something like "8 GB expandable to 16 GB") and at least an i5 processor. i7's better but can be very pricey. (Edit: Aaaactually this reminded me to run CCleaner and turns out I have an i3 processor right now and it works fine.)

This thread was super helpful to me when I was shopping. I'm sure other people will have more information on upgrading individual components.

Oh, almost forgot: do you use CCleaner and defrag regularly? These will make a big difference in available memory.

This computer is just so old, but I think I will work with it alittle before attempting to build one (my boyfriend would be building it), I like that option better than buying a new one that might not have every spec. Thank you!
