Question Am i being ripped off?

I am brand new to dancing, and i started at a sort of trashy club in the Chattanooga area. In my first few days, I have sold quite a few VIP dances, and on my third night, I sold more than anyone. The problem is, they charge $50 for 2 songs, and i only see $23.50 of that each time. Add to that the $20.00 house fee, and these people have been taking half of my money each night. I have been told by customers that I am too pretty, too intelligent to work there...Is this as much of a ripoff as it seems to me? We don't do tipouts....
I am thinking of staying until i get better at pole dancing (i suck so far, need to build upper body strength).
Just looking for comments or advice about dancing in the East TN / N. Georgia area....it kind of seems like all of the clubs are dumps.
I really want to do this, but I don't want to be a sucker.
    Also, do many clubs allow you to make your own schedule, or just pop in when you want to work? What I am ultimately looking for in this job is freedom in that sense, and this place has all the girls on 5 nights a week every week (or you're supposedly fired, just like the damned restaurant industry I am trying to escape). As a beginner it has been brutal on my body, but i think i could learn to love the pain ;}
One last question....what is generally expected from a lap dance? How much grinding (or not-grinding) do y'all do?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Most clubs rip of the dancers, in my opinion, but that's the nature of the business. If you are happy with the $ you are bringing home, each night, then I'd deal with the fees. I've worked at clubs that had fees under $20 per night where I made NO money and I've worked at clubs where I've paid $500+ in fees, each night and made piles of cash. So it's all relative. I'm not familiar with your part of the country, so I can't tell you about scheduling specifics... Some clubs are very strict and even book their girls 2 months in advanced (and will fine them to death if they don't show) while other's don't care when you show up. Maybe you could call around to some of the other clubs and find out how they work their schedules. I would guess that you'll be able to find somewhere that is easier to schedule with... Lapdances are different depending on where you are working. Some places have rules about how long you are allowed to grind (ex. 6 sec rule). Some allow one way contact. Some don't allow contact (ex. air dances). Watch what the other dancers do, at your club. Don't take advice from the customers about how much contact is normal or what your fees should be. I have never once gotten any useful advice about stripping from a customer. Even if they mean well, they don't understand what it's like to be us--no matter how many strippers they have supposedly dated.

Finally, don't worry too much about the pole. It won't make you $. I love the pole and do some crazy stuff on it. It's fun, but it doesn't translate into $. Stripping is all about the personal interaction between you and your customers. It's very hard to make that personal connection through eye contact, facial expressions, touch (if allowed) when you are spinning around a pole. Everyone loves to sit back and watch a cool pole set, but the distance makes them feel like they don't need to tip. You are dancing for the room--not for him. When you on stage and are engaged with a customer, looking at him and interacting with him from the stage, it's much easier to get him to respond w/$. Some of the girls I've known over the years who've made the most $ never touched the pole. Most of them, in fact.

You don't need pole tricks to make money and it sounds like your hustle is pretty tight, so I think it's time to check out a different club. If you want to keep your current place as back up (because maybe your takehome is fine even though you pay out a lot to the club), just say you're taking a vacation for a week and use that week to check out the other clubs nearby. Maybe they have more flexible scheduling requirements, or even none at all. I have no information on your area, but it might help to run a search on Club Chat and browse through Clubs & Reviews. In any case, if you don't like the next club, you can always just stop showing up.

Things like scheduling and grinding are all relative. In some clubs you can't grind at all, in others that's basically all you're expected to do. Did management break down the rules for you at your club? Follow that and see what the other girls are doing. I grind throughout the song but never for a long period of time or too hard. I'm not there to make them come, I'm there to keep them teased for as long as their wallet can handle.

i danced in a club that was really strict on scheduling and actually "fired" me a couple times. the management would call me "lazy" and "snob" in front of the whole dressing room or take me into the management room and scold me uselessly. i then got "fired" again for not wanting to work christmas eve. fuck that.

i can handle different levels of contact but being hassled by management was awful. i now try to stay away from clubs with really tyrannical management. also the bouncers there were pretty useless, i've found that to be a good indicator of a nice club.

also you will get over the soreness and bruises eventually as long as you take care of yourself in the meantime! drink water, get massages, moisturize, and rest when you get home. i found it really helpful to do a lot of my beauty and skincare regimes after i got off work and relax. steamy hot water, sitting on the couch for an hour while your mask dries, deep hair conditioning with scalp massage - love it!

Scheduling or not scheduling varies by club. Can you ask management if you can cut back to only 3 or 4 days instead? I have paid a higher ($30) house fee to be able to have an easier schedule. That can make it win win.

For LD, watch other girls to see how far they go. Then do what your comfortable with. I personally, would slowly rub against guys legs and chest and focus on keeping my giant boobs in their face while other girls were dry humping....

Take baths with epsom salts. It will heal bruises quicker and soothe sore muscles. There are some formulated especially for people that do lots of physical activity.

Customers are full of shit. I don't really take anything they say seriously. Usually when they feed me lines like that they are time wasters. jump to, "I may be smart but I give a hell of a lap dance too." If they don't bite I go on to the next one.

All clubs take your money, it just depends on how much. I was at a club where it was $20 to tip out and they took half from LD and champange rooms. I've worked where they had 25% to club. Big cities can take hundreds just to tip out. We all get screwed that way.Look at your take home pay. Is it an amount you can live comfortably with and save? If your bills are taken care of I wouldn't worry about the fees.

i pay 70 -100 a night ( usually 100), but they only take 5 dollars from a $ 25 dance so in sense i feel that your club may be ripping you off more. they are taking over half your earnings, no matter how much you make!! look for a new club asap!
i could NEVER work 5 days a week, that's ridiculous for a stripper. two days is the max that i am scheduled, lots of clubs let you make your own as long as you agree to work 2 or 3 days a week. i have never in my life heard of a club that makes you work 5 days a week.
you don't need pole tricks!! at all. i've been stripping almost 3 years and was never good on the pole.
lap dances are all relative to where you work and what you are comfy with. how much are the other girls giving? what's legal in your state? what are you comfortable with?

Try charging $60 for two dances or asking for tips on top of the 2 for $50 dances. When I've worked at places with high tip outs, I found that asking for tips was crucial.
I would also sometimes phrase the dance price as something like " It's $20 to me and $10 to the club " so that the customers know you don't keep it all.
They are taking over half though .... that's pretty bad. I bet it you look a bit you can find a place that takes less.

^ wow that's ridiculous!! where was it, if you don't mind me asking?? the whole point of stripping is that you don't have to work 40 hours to make money, you can go in two maybe 3 days or whenever you want to make just as much! also, stripping is much more physically, emotionally, and mentally draining..i know i would burn out in 2 weeks max

I worked at a club in NV and another in ND where you had to work 3 crummy shifts in order to work the weekends. The crummy shifts were Sun-Thurs. You would make no $ during the weekday shifts, so everyone would work both Sat and Sun. So, they basically got 5 shifts a week out of everyone... You could just work a couple weekday shifts, but that would be super pointless. I was traveling when I was in ND, so I only put up with this for a couple weeks. I did work at the club in NV a fair amount, for awhile. There, most girls worked more than 40 hrs a week b/c they'd stay really late on Fri and Sat night. 12 hour shifts weren't uncommon. I could never deal with all that now. Every year, I get lazier.

I meant everyone would work both Fri and Sat. Sun was one of the bad shifts.
