Default recommendations for going foundation free

so the good news is that thanks to you amazing ladies on SW and your amazing and super-helpful advice, my face is now break out free and perfect for the first time in forever!! i mean no wrinkles, no cysts, no blackheads, no discoloration, everything is getting pretty perfect. so, thanks so much for recommending cerave and stridex lol

the bad news is, if i so much as put foundation on for even 6 hours, the next day i have these little pustules and maybe a cysts from wearing it even for a short amount of time. i've stopped wearing makeup during the week when i don't work ( which is another reason why my skin is so much better now than it used to be when i caked it on), but when i work i feel naked and weird without it, maybe a little washed out as well.
i've tried every foundation MAC has to offer including a light BB cream or tinted moisturizer and i'm just done wreaking havoc on my skin so do you think a VERY light powder just kinda dusted on would be better? and what are some good kinds of powder for sensitive, break out-prone skin? i only break out on my cheeks and jaw. im fully intending on wearing eye makeup but do you guys go foundation free at work, any of you?

Have you tried the mineral foundations/powder? I'm kinda the opposite, on the dry side w/some oily areas/oilier in summer so not a lotta help I guess..have you tried Philosophy?
I used their moisturizer for acne prone skin when mine was oily, & really liked it..they should have a similar foundation

MAC breaks me out really badly. I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and Chanel teint innocence when I want a bit more coverage.

    a couple questions--
are you putting on a serum (not necessary but helpful) and moisturizer then waiting a few minutes and then putting on a primer then your foundation? Putting on moisturizer helps your skin suck up and get full (lol, I'm not sure how scientific that is, but it does help) so that it doesn't absorb (at least as quickly) your makeup. Primers give you an additional layer of defense. In addition, what are you using after you wash your face off? Are you using a toner? If your skin does okay with coconut oil (most do, some don't) it helps to put coconut oil on after you've washed off after work (helps avoid stripper butt and breakouts around the knees if you do floorwork) and then go to bed. The coconut oil works as an anti-bacterial and so can dry out your skin a little bit, but since you seem to probably be well-moisturized, I don't think you'd have an issue.

Otherwise, Have you tried a BB cream? My skin, for the most part, isn't too bad so I use a BB cream from Urban Decay. It's sheer but still tinted. I'm not sure if it would help with the breakout issue at all, but if you don't go the mineral-makeup route, you can try something that's not as thick as foundation.

I use bb cream and mineral powder. Don't put the powder on your cheeks though if you break out there. Only put it on your nose and forehead.

i use a lot of moisturizer, like all the time ( on my eyes and forehead, the only dry parts) but especially before i put my makeup on but i dont use a serum..i used to use the mac BB cream for the primer but that made me break out lol
i wash it off with cerave cleanser and a washcloth to gently get everything out..i used to do oil cleansing but it started making me break out and then made my face a war zone..never had such horrible acne problems as i did with oils so i only use apricot kernel oil to remove eye makeup now.
the only BB cream i've tried is the mac stuff, im kinda scared now to try different kinds being that they are so expensive i don't want to like waste my money if they make me break out..but im willing to try if you guys say its good for your skin!

i love coconut oil for my hair and i do hear it has great antibacterial properties but i also heard its highly comedogenic?? idk, i think ill spot test it!

    i SWEAR by this stuff.

    website

it's lightly tinted and a physical sunscreen. it never breaks me out. it's light coverage and blends very naturally. i hardly wear foundation anymore, just spot touches here and there for under-eye circles or small spots.

this, witch hazel, and vit-c serum cleared my skin except for the occasional hormonal or stress blemish.

It might be that Mac is just not the right foundation for you. There are many other good ones like Dior airbrush foundation or something else that's lighter that you might like.

I am also throwing my vote in with MAC being the culprit. I researched foundations a while back when I was leaving Clinique, and MAC causing acne was a really common complaint. I would recommend Chanel, Makeup Forever, or Laura Mercier foundations instead.

To answer your original question, I can go without foundation during the day if I don't feel like doing it, but I wouldn't do it at work. I go for a fully made up look and would feel insecure/unfinished without foundation.

My life changed with I switched from Mac to mineral. My skin is SO much better. Make sure to keep your powder brush clean! Also keep your phone clean or use a headset. Change your pillowcases a lot. I used to have terrible skin, but keeping the stuff that my face touches clean and switching to Bare Minerals cleared me up!

Oh, and all I wear underneath is moisturizer. I think it's from Korres. To lazy to get up and look. Bare Minerals has sunscreen in it, but the SPF isn't super high. If I am going to be out in the sun for awhile, I add another powdered sunscreen. My face is greasy. It likes to be powdered.

Mac made me break out really bad too so I stopped using it a while back. I used bare minerals but I hated the loose powder (I think they have a pressed powder now tho) and it wasn't very good coverage. Now I use Aveda and I love it!! I love all Aveda products but the makeup never makes me break out even if I fall asleep in it. You should def try it!

Almost every day, I wear just moisturizer (with SPF 30), and Clinique's Blended Face Powder. It's a classic... never, *ever* breaks me out, and provides enough coverage on most days that i don't need anything else. Sometimes I'll have some redness that needs concealer, but not usually.
It's really an underrated item... gives a super-pretty, airbrushed look... i just add a bit of highlighter (this one is amazing: http://www.sephora.com/ambient-light...?skuId=1483551) so I don't look too matte, matte, matte.
    Happy makeup-ing!

It wasn't bad for it, as far as I recall. I was just really getting into makeup and wanted to explore other options, basically. I still use their Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel happily. I was considering getting their line for redness correction, but I read that it wasn't the best for sensitive skin, and since MUFE has been good to me for years now, I decided not to do something I might regret.

I have oily sensitive skin that will break out certain makeup and agree Clinique and mac both broke me out. I recently started using the Makeup Forever Mat Velvet and its very light but makes face perfect. IT blend really good just using (clean)fingers applying if in hurry too. I use the micro white hd powder and there blush is awesome too, it looks so natural. Not gunky and doesn't settle around and under nose. I use oil blotting sheets and retouch once after botting with the makeup forever pressed powder that also covers very good like a foundation if you have run to the store and don't have time for liquid foundation. I just started using lancome visionaire corrector to get rid of pores and discoloration and works pretty good. For face wash Lancôme gel to foam face wash , moisturizer I love Estee Lauder day cream (very light) , primer I like Lancôme Base and Sheishedo. Somedays if its hot or humid or around my period I only use a small amount of moisturizer, its too heavy with a primer and will break out. Also dairy milk causes me to get a zit too.If you drink regular milk I would stop awhile and see if that could be the culprit.

Have you ever tried pore minimizers? I think they are such a fantastic alternate to foundations and powders!

I skip foundation and powder all together. Imvho, the appearance of my skin has drastically improved over the past year and a half in part because I ditched foundation and powder.

On days when I get to work and think "blehhh" upon looking at my reflection, I'll use a pore minimizer. They have matte versions, and clear versions-the latter producing a dewy look. They are definitely worth a try, IMHO!

Clinque has an amazing CC cream. Maybe try it on at Sephora, give it a test drive and see what your skin does.

I currently use something by Victoria's secret, but I forget what it is called(I only use it occasionally at work). My favorite by far was one that was made by NYC. There is one called Dewy Mist by lancome that i think would be perfect for work because it is a spray.

I think these do the same exact thing primers do, the only difference being that primers have more of a makeup texture whereas pore minimizing serums are serumy/gel-y in texture.

MAC and Bare Minerals both made me break out like crazy. I am in love with Chanel's double perfection powder, I just use it to even out my color, applied lightly it does the job but it layers well if I need more coverage for a big pimple or something. I also liked Makeup Forevers matte powder a lot, especially the cheaper price, but it was hard for me to find a match after I got a tan this summer.

I must be the only MAC chick w/out issues.
    1. cleanse my face with MAC wipes
    2.MAC oil control lotion
    3. MAC studio fix foundation
    4. MAC blot powder
    5.seal with MAC FIX

    REMOVAL LOL
    MAC cleanser
MAC volcano ash face wash, I let it stay when taking a shower, its gritty
    MAC face wipes again
    MAC oil control lotion

its a lot of steps but use to it , it takes me 10 mins to throw on a full face.

My kiddo uses their BB cream w/out issues. very prone to breakouts. I think the BB cream is newish? I do know MAC just made her shade. maybe that is why I think it is new? We did samples of products until we found one that was right.

she only uses the volcano ash as a face mask and no moisturizers... just Dove soap to wash her face.. the only thing that will not break her out
