    Default Dream Computer?

If price wasn't an option and you could get a new camming laptop what would you get?

I may have found someone willing to do just that for me. I say "may" because I never trust anyone until it happens.

That being said he did ask me what kind I want and I didn't know what to answer because I am terrible with computer stuff.

I'm a desktop fan, but if I had to choose a laptop I would get a desktop replacement laptop. Desktop replacements (commonly called gaming laptops) have more room in them, so less overheating issues and easier to actually upgrade them (but they're still laptops so it's limited.) Most likely I'd go with a Sager. Here are some great deals on them: http://www.xoticpc.com/custom-gaming...95_51_162.html

How do you feel about Alienware? I'm quasi-shopping for a new laptop right now and I want to get something that can handle the demands of camming and video editing.

Alienware uses Clevo parts, and Sager does too. Sager just isn't as pretty aesthetically, but you will get the same performance out of it for half the cost.

I have a custom rig (desktop) and as of right now I'd be happy with a motherboard that had a smaller heatsink so it could fit in my case! (was that too "talk neerdy to me" for ya'll) my motherboard is sitting on the floor next to the case. but this is what i want ultimately for now

I just got a Toshiba last year but I do want another awesome desktop for gaming and office work. I'm thinking Alienware for gaming but then again, their laptops are bulky as heck pushing on over 9lbs and I don't like the heavy shit. The dell precision line is looking pretty good for a workstation, but I'd shell out a few thousand bucks for a multimedia dual core desktop that allows me to game and work at the same time.

I'm very happy with my Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102. It includes an i7 processor, 17.3" diagonal full HD (1920 x 1080) TruBrite display, and four USB 3.0 ports. I had purchased it a while ago on BestBuy.com and picked it up at the local Best Buy store. It's out of stock on their website, but there is an Amazon listing for it:

Yep I just received mine today and I'm sending it back. This is the 2nd time I purchased this computer and both times it didn't detect monitors. I tried vga, hdmi, and 2 different monitors...nothing worked. Both monitors worked with vga and hdmi on my Sony Vaio. I really liked the spec's on this computer, its a shame that it doesn't want to work. I've watched reviews on youtube of it working perfectly fine but for some reason the one's I'm getting don't work.

a mac...but they are not the best for camgirls because of having to use diff. programs and stuff.

i use a sony vaio for camming...it's the only windows computer i haven't had issues with...

i would not recommend hp, gateway, or acer (i had issues with all of those) or asus just because I have heard so many bad things about them.

i think sony, dell and toshiba are good brands...as long as it's an i7 and has more than 8gb ram (of course the more the better) it should be fine for splitcamming/video editing

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Series-SV.../dp/B00AW4OB86 - that's mine...i got it most because of the screensize, i wouldn't really suggest it because I am not in love with it (it feels so big and plastic-y lol)...but I can work 8 sites and run 2 encoders plus play music and have a bunch of other stuff open with no issues so I am happy with it ...but any i7 with enough ram should be able to handle that.

I have an Asus i3 touchscreen laptop and I haven't had any issues out of it yet. It does so much better than any of my hp's.

I agree with all of this to a T. I would rather work on a mac, but they aren't the best because most of them can't run the programs I need without extensive hacks or boot camp. There are a lot of flash or browser-based applications now for those who do have a mac, but I'd rather use the actual program... especially because I arrange them in a certain way on my desktop while splitcamming, and I can't really do that with browser-based applications.

I've never had an issue with my macs (nothing major, and if something happens theres always a guy at the genius bar who fixes it fast and free), but I have had SO many issues with my pcs! My Asus failed the first couple weeks I got it. I like Toshiba, and I've heard good things about Dell and Sony these days. I also need an i7 of course, but anything more beastly than a basic i7 is kind of pointless because computers do get old and outdated fast. I'm fine with my Toshibas for now.

I finally got it to work Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. I went an bought a new monitor as a last resort. Turns out the Vga and Hdmi ports were the problem. The Vga doesn't work or is outdated. For this computer to detect a monitor it has to be hooked up to the dvi port. The hdmi doesn't work unless the graphic card is upgraded...smh I don't understand why Lenovo did that. Now I'm wondering if the first computer I purchased would've worked if I had just bought a new monitor or got a vga to dvi cable.

Any who thanks for the tips Hottie & Glamour. I really like Sony haven't had any problems with mine, the only issue with it is that its not an i7.

I guess my next new Dream Computer will be a Sony or Toshiba.

    Such a helpful thread, thanks!

I have a 5 year old Mac and C920 cam. I cannot record in full HD with my cam cause my computer just freezes while spinning the fans as if trying to accomplish a take off. I have about 2GB of ram on it currently. But clearly the age is starting to show. QUESTION: if I get one of them Toshiba/Asus/Sony with 8GB, I should be able to record in HD, right?

Stupid question... I know... But I just need some reassurance before I drop money on a new lap top.

MAC hands down. I just use an external USB cam on the side. No issues except heating, it's in aluminum, so I use a cooling pad. Never an issue, BUT running in HD can suck.
Desktop, Love, love, love my HP Pavilion Slimline. Cost effective, never an issue and it's light.
Had an asus, liked it as well. Sold it to a friend so she can cam, it's still working well.
