Thumbs up Has anybody dropped a lot of weight really fast? I have and wondered if others did it

I dropped 40 lbs in 3 months with no exercise using an extremely low-cal, low-carb protein shake mix. I mixed it with soymilk and frozen berries. I had 2 shakes a day and ate a healthy salad with lean meat and spices/olive oil as dressing. It took me 3 months but I got back into decent shape! I wont say a brand on here because I'm NOT promoting anything, but I do think that any shake mix that tastes good and has low/cal & carbs will work. Has anybody done anything similar? Any other success stories or secrets? I have ten more lbs. to go and need some motivation! Thanks

I lost 25 pounds in about three months time. I did it through proper nutrition and exercise. I haven't felt this good in a couple years! I mainly did a Paleo diet type diet of a lot of lean meat, veggies, and fruits. I exercised at least three times a week with weights and cardio. I need to get back on it strict as well. I'm still eating pretty well, but I need to get back in the gym.

My sister did something similar to you, Fem. Protein/chia shake and a salad, often dry or meatless, plus frequent exercise. She went from a size 10/12 to a 0/2. She is still not as "toned" as she wants to be, but since she started out as a 5'2" size 12, drastic calorie reduction definitely allowed her to drop the excess weight quickly. This sort of plan works best for people who are considerably overweight, not someone looking to drop 5-10lbs, so she is kind of freaking out now that she hit a plateau. I am not totally opposed to temporarily reducing calories to this extent, but in the case of my sister, I think it was a bad idea because she has developed major signs of an eating disorder since beginning.

Anyway, good for you for making such progress! The last few pounds are always the hardest. I am not a fitness buff by any stretch of the imagination, but perhaps you should consider changing up something in your exercise routine to further challenge your body and get the last 10?

well I did it a few years ago by only eating once a day & I lost 20 lbs in a months time due to not eating plus depression. I'm back to that diet now & it's working for me just fine. I refuse to exercise unless I'm at work & eating one meal a day not only saves me money but I'm slowly losing weight in the meantime It's not the healthiest way but it's MY way.

I gotta lose 60 pounds, 30 left from my pregnancy and the other 30 to get back down to where I used to be a few years ago. Low cal works, but I'm always so scared of loose skin which is why I do it a little slower with lots of exercise...

Did you have any loose skin?

Yeah. It's called the fourth-year-of-your-undergrad diet. It works for so many people and consists of:
-Sleep deprivation to burn all those excess calories off!
-a shitload of caffiene, cigarettes, vitamin supplements, and stimulants to keep you going through all those all nighters!
-the feeling that your life is a giant shitball of depression with your only consolement being that degree at the end of the tunnel and it's uselessness which is a very effective appetite suppressant!
-ulcers and a fucked up digestive system due to all the stress and abuse of your body for 4 years that makes you hate eating and nauseous all the time!
-taking major advantage of the like 2 times per week that you have to cook real food and shoving it full of every healthy thing you can think of so as to prevent your immune system from flatlining!

Dropped 50 lbs in the last year and a half. Seriously though, the first 25 were "healthy weight loss" due to a much cleaner diet with small portions and upping activity levels in my lifestyle over about 6 months. Last 25 were mostly due to the above abuses of my body over the last year, which I do not recommend for anyone. But what you can take away from it? Being busy helps A LOT with weight loss. You have less time to watch tv and snack and keeping your brain busy leaves it little room for cravings unless you overwork yourself. In general, fast weight loss is BAD for your body and will fuck your system up, or the things you do to achieve super fast weight loss will. Unless you're a very overweight person to begin with.

My ex lost 60 pounds in 9 months, a couple of years ago.

Apparently all he did was run long distances every single day, and he did not each much. He didn't lift at all because he didn't have the energy to do so since he was eating so little for his height and size. He was 6'4, 240 lbs and is now around 180. Not the healthiest way to lose weight but he doesn't really have lose skin except he now has some pretty noticeable stretch marks on his stomach...

but the stretch marks are from having the extra weight, right? not from losing it?
I'm always curious about this. I've done some stuff where I've lost like 13 pounds in two weeks, but nothing extended for more...

I'm worried about gaining it back or fucking up my metabolism permanently.

I'm not exactly sure, I didn't really ask him if his stretch marks were prior or after his weight loss haha....

But I know the last time we spoke, he began weight training and was actually starting to add more tone to his body. He was kind of "skinny fat" after he lost those 60 pounds since all he did was cardio, he did not add muscles to replace the weight he lost. He didn't have lose skin, I couldn't even tell he used to be a lot bigger until he told me. He was just a bit "soft".

I think the best would be to lose weight gradually, by following a work out program that you actually enjoy and making changes in your diet, but nothing too drastic. Start to eat healthy without depriving yourself so that you can follow through in the long term and maintain a healthy body and mind. Having a cheat meal once in a while is totally okay.

That way, you may be able to avoid having lose skin, stretch marks and have longer lasting results.

i think stretch marks are definitely from your skin being "torn" because of dramatic weight gain, and they just become more readily seen and almost "wrinkly" when they pounds come off.. i think you just get loose skin from the dramatic weight loss, i wouldn't think you'd get stretch marks right?
i just lost 10 pounds from being sick and having a tooth pulled, not dramatic but for my weight it was.

I once lost 20lbs in a couple of months when going through a break up. I was probably only eating one meal a day because I was too sad to eat, and also had that self loathing feeling. I got told plenty of times that I was 'too thin', but I don't think this would have been a problem with boobs and ass. Plenty of 'too thin' girls appear healthy because they have fake boobs and an ass to go with their skinny frame. I try to do between 50-100 squats a day now. I like being slim but never want to lose my butt again!

Boobs and ass make you look bigger, especially big boobs make you look bigger overall. I've been through it all with various sizes and implant sizes, skinny w small, skinny with different size implants and then I've gained weight..

As for the stretch marks, my friend just lost about 15 pounds very healthily and she says she has some tiny stretch marks now..

Re: fucking up your metabolism, I hate saying this on SW because someone inevitably wants me to "prove it" or cite a bunch of shit, and I'm way too lazy, but from what I've read, temporary drastic reduction in caloric intake does not permanently alter your metabolism. The myth that it does stems from a study in which participants were basically starved for six months straights, and their metabolisms were slightly altered after that. Moral of the story: cut calories for short periods of time and the average healthy person trying to lose weight won't have a problem. Sign up for a study in which you are barely sustained for half a year? Yeah, you will have a problem.
