Default CPU running at 100% on brand new PC...

Hello ladies I have searched a bunch on here the last couple days and have checked out the other computer threads and have not come up with any solutions to my problem. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it! My husband who is a computer guru is scratching his head trying various things to fix this and nothing is working....

So here's the problem, he built a new PC for me in September with an AMD FX 8350 processor (aka PLENTY for camming how I cam). Everything has been doing awesome and running flawless, until about a week ago my PC started running at 100% cpu while camming. At first we thought that adobe had updated something because he forgot to turn off auto updates, so he turned that off and downgraded my flash version to the previous one. That didn't help.

While I'm camming I have yahoo, skype, webcamsplitter, 3 encoders, and 4 broswer tabs on chrome open. My old PC could handle this at about 85% cpu usage. When he first built this current system it would run about 40-50% cpu.

I will be camming and out of no where BAM 100%. Nothing seems to cause it, it just appears to randomly jump up and stay there, making everything lag and I have to restart. Then it works for a while, then suddenly 100% again.

If I close out all my encoders and browser, then it goes back down to 10%-ish usage. So it's only doing it while the encoders and browser are running, and it seems to just be so random!

If anyone else has had this problem or has any ideas what I could try to fix it I would appreciate any ideas because we are out of them over here.....
    xoxo ~ Sarah

The fact that it used to run at 40 to 50% would make me think it needs either a system restore back to an earlier point to fix whatever is draining resources or if that doesn;t work, a total system wipe and OS reinstall.

Either that or try different browsers. I have issues with Safari sometimes, and have to use Firefox or Chrome (Chrome I believe is the lightest).

Yeah, I've noticed Chrome and Encoder together uses a lot of CPU. Try Firefox. I did, and it seemed to work better.

try to check the temperature inside. AMD's are notorious for getting hot. I have an AMD and got a huge Noctua cooler and goes fine.

also, i remember you were saying you split LJ and SM...i did that too, but since the last version of Jasmin Cam appeared, I can't do it anymore. I don't know what they did to it, but it eats a lot of CPU. This happened 2 or 3 weeks ago

Thank you!!!! I am no longer doing LJ but yes when I was it was taking up so much CPU.

Hubby did something to the system regarding the cooling.... he tried explaining it to me but I'm like huh? But whatever he did worked! I did not go back up to 100% and I cammed 5 hours straight last night! Something about making the encoders run on separate cores...? I don't know, whatever it was worked.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I'm going to try to switch from chrome too.
    xoxo ~ Sarah

OMG, I would love to know how did he do that! I'm still trying to understand the way these things work myself, and also i'd love to know how much the video card influences all this.

OK, be careful doing this I don't know the best settings/options for your encoders, however I can tell you how to get to the place to change the setting in windows.
do this at your own risk. computer people I know tell me not to mess with this as a general rule.
(this is for windows 7, vista, xp - I haven't really played with win-8 yet.
    Go to your task manager.
Right click your task bar go to start task manager.
click on the processes tab, right click the process you want to change
click on "Set Affinity" a box will open up listing all your cpu's cores choose a single core or all or two or three, which to choose for best effect is the part I'm not sure about

Write down what the default settings are before you change them so you can change it back if your encoder goes tits up!

    Good luck!

Speaking about brand new computers and high CPU: check the list of programs starting on launch and turn off everything you don't need. Vendors often sell computers with a bunch of pre-installed unnecessary programs and utilities running on start. Also make sure there is no preinstalled malware protection; nothing worse than two antiviruses wrestling on your computer. Also check the system backup/archivation parameters (schedule and folders backed up) so the computer doesn't go for copying and compressing all its shit when you least expect it.

I was gonna mention the startup programs, but figured I'd keep it to the CPU affinity.

To get to the startup programs.
Go to Start > type: msconfig > Click the start up tab and uncheck almost everything you don't need.
