    Default Nose job

I'm seriously considering getting a nose job. My nose has a bump and is also way too big for my face. It's been bothering me for years, especially when I see pictures of myself from the side.
I live in LA so there are plenty of plastic surgeons to pick from. The only thing that's holding me back is fear. I'm afraid of the pain, the risks, not being happy with the results. Mostly the pain though.

Has anyone here had a nose job and is able to give me some valuable advice? What to look for in a surgeon, questions to ask, what the pain and recovery was like etc?

Hi there, I had An open rhinoplasty in the summer in orange county and I have to say the pain was not bad at all. It mostly just feels like stuffed up and obviously u cant breathe through your nose for a week or two. I looked pretty horrible though for about ten days but I was able to go back to school in two weeks. My face got so swollen and my eyes were completely black and almost swollen shut. I had bruises all over my face I looked like I had been run over lol but honestly it looks way worse than it feels. I also am very sensitive to medicine so after I was throwing up from the anthesia and antibiotics. My nose was pretty big before but I did not have a bump so my results were natural but he completely changed my profile which I wanted. Overall I think he did an awesome job. I am very picky about my looks because I see my face a lot now that I am a camgirl but I would go through it again and am considering a second surgery because my tip is still not as small as I would like. let me know if you have any questions...

i just had a non-invasive rhino. its for taking bumps off, raising the tip, and it cost 600 and one or two days of healing time. supposedly lasts a year. it totally reshaped my nose, no bumps and the tip sits up like a ski slope now..it cannot make your nose smaller, but it can make it more shapely. adding fullness to your cheeks also makes your nose appear smaller. i would discuss all the options, they may not even have to break your nose. i, too, and scared of the pain especially because i can't take any pain meds besides tylenol. and the money..jeeeze. have you seen any surgeons yet, or had a consultation in the past? they say you should see somebody who specializes in facial plastic surgery. you need to be VERY careful who you go to and research the hell out of it

    Thank you so much ladies!

I haven't had any consultations yet but I will definitely do my research. It is my face after all!
Littlealex your face was bruised for ten days? That's not good, but I guess it's not bad compared to hating your nose for the rest of your life if you don't do it.
I hope they won't have to break my nose but I guess I'll find out what my options are when I talk to different doctors.

How did you decide what surgeon to go with? What were the most important factors?

I had a rhinoplasty and I love the results. But it takes about a full year to see the final results. My doctor was a famous Lebanese doctor who practices in Beverly Hills. My face was swollen for a month and I had black eyes for like 3 months. But overall I am happy!! And I see a huge increase in my earnings. I had a closed rhinoplasty where he broke my nose and completely reshaped it.

I went with a surgeon that did tons of rhinoplasty and that I liked his before and afters. He showed me computer imaging of how I would look and I also like how he did very natural work and it was affordable for me. I also had a good connection with him, I saw two other surgeons who were kind of cold and I got a weird vibe from them. I looked fine after two weeks but I was still swollen. After 10 days I put on makeup and everything was pretty much covered...I had to start working and go back to school. I still looked swollen but not noticeable to anyone else really.

I had a rhinoplasty about 4 years ago. I'm not going to lie, I'd never been in so much pain/discomfort in my life. The hardest part was dry mouth lol sounds weird I know but its because you can't breathe through your nose after for about 10 days so your throat gets really dry and raw. The nose was numb for like 6 months on me. Prepare for a lot of nastiness after surgery. There will be like 100 feet of bloody gauze shoved up your nose which you'll have to take care of, etc. But if you can handle 2 weeks of discomfort and about 3 weeks of looking scary, you'll be OK. I don't regret getting the surgery because I look, like, 50% better than I did before (had a big bump on my nose). I looked terrible in pictures back then! Unfortunately, part of the bump grew back but only I've been able to notice it. Hopefully it doesn't get bigger O_O One thing I'd suggest is making sure you want the surgery 100% because it's 1) a lot of money 2) takes 2-3 weeks for bruising to heal and 3) can make you depressed. It's normal to get sad after surgeries (apparently from the anaesthetic, but I think it's also from being alone for such a long time and obsessively observing your looks while you heal) so make sure you prepare for some bad moods. I made sure I had lots of movies to watch, popsicles to eat lol and friends to call for support.

Oh, one more thing, no matter what surgery you get there's going to be SOME scarring. So make sure you're OK with small scars. Most peoples' aren't noticeable. But make sure you understand that surgeries can do some undesirable things to you, looks-wise.

As for which doctor to choose, my mom had a friend who had surgery and her's turned out well so I went to the same one. If you know someone who has gotten a rhino, ask them which dr they used. If you don't know anyone, do tons of research and read dr reviews. After that make sure you go to consultations. Ask lots of questions-- anything-- and if the dr is helpful, knowledgeable and HONEST with you then I'd say you have a good one. Obviously look at picture samples of previous patients Hope my answer helped a bit!
