Default Renewing a credit card and mentionning your job

I will be renewing my credit card for the first time next summer. I am not sure how it works and I am a bit worried. When I applied for my first credit card 2 years ago, I had a stable job at an office. I don't remember in details the papers I had to fill out but I only had my vanilla job at that time...

I quit this job a few weeks ago after three years to attend school full-time. I do, declare my income about what I make from doing erotic massages and dancing. I declared myself as a make-up artist last year because there is no code here in Canada about independent performer or artist that some members here from the US mentioned, it had to be more precise....

I am worried about the background check my future employers might do... I am thinking about declaring myself as a tutor this year and the years to come, because I don't think I will be very credible if I say I was a make up artist for the past years during an interview. If they google my name they wouldn't find any ads related and I have no ''client'' I could refer to prove that I was actually a makeup artist...

Will I have to meet an employee at the bank to renew my credit card? Will they ask to fill out papers about my job, ways to verify the information or do they just need my tax papers? I'm really worried and I cannot live without a credit card. I have many pre-authorized payments that simplify my life a lot!!! I use my credit card often and I have extremely good credit so it is out of question for me to cancel it... Will the fact that I am a student be of my advantage?? I also only do business with one bank and have been loyal to them...

Answers and advices would be greatly appreciated!!!

What do you mean by renewing? Are they making you re-apply? Does your current card no longer work? (It may be different in Canada. In the US we dont have to re-apply for an approved credit card unless we are changing types of credit card accounts)

Are you a student? Here in the US, some banks will accept profession as being a student. The application process isnt as detailed as other loans. I have never had to ask for tax returns when processing a credit card application. Here in the US, credit cards are all about the credit report. They may verify the income by the balance and transactions in a checking at worse.

If you are concerned about future employers finding out your past professions, never put that profession or the name of your work location on a loan application. The chances of it ending up on a credit report goes way up if you do. Here in the states it is possible to create a business name so that you appear as an independent contractor.

Maybe I used the wrong terms but what I meant by "renewing" was that my credit card "expires" on July 2014... I guess they gave me a two years trial since it was my first credit card...

My card still works and I want to keep the same one. I remember the first one I had was the one with the lowest interest fees and I switched it last year (because my bill payments are never late, so I didn't need the low interest fee...) for another one without annual fees. It's the one they have with rewards and I only had to meet one employee at the bank for 10 mins for him to fill out some infos. He did not ask much or tried to verify anything about the employer I was still working for.

Yes I am a full-time student!! And currently I do not have a "straight" job. I do fill my taxes but under a false occupation... Do I have the obligation to mention the profession I put in my taxes if I ever have to apply another time for a credit card? I really don't know how it works after my credit card expires....

Each card has an expiration date. That doesnt mean the account connected to it expires. In the US they would send you a new card with a new expiration date. The account would remain the same.
There are few exceptions, so make sure to Call the credit card company to find out exactly what happens in your case.

Any time you apply for anything it is best to use the information from your taxes. That way if they need verification you can use your tax paperwork and everything matches. Otherwise you will end up with a ton of questions.

In my 20 years plus of credit card(s) usage, the credit card company sent me a new card(with new expiration date.) No action was required of me for this to occur. This happened even when I changed employment or address.(Informed them of later change, though). HTH.......
    I'm right 96% of the time. I don't sweat the other 5% .......................

Same deal in Canada. OP, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

The only time (that i know of) that a credit card account expires with the expiration date is either 1. some secure credit cards are set up this way or 2. the card is connected to something else ie the fact you are a student, go to this university, a card your employer gave you, etc. Some student card accounts expire when you graduate.

It is always best to call and verify information on your specific account. All accounts are different and things are always changing.
