Default Traveling to Norway, want to know what to bring my friend

Hello, I am going to be traveling to Norway from the US to stay with a friend for a few weeks and I was wondering what to bring her. I am specifically wanting to bring her some gifts, things that are expensive or difficult to get in Norway. She has told me that in Norway stuff costs about four times as much as it does in the United States so I was thinking that if I could buy her some things here in the US that are more expensive in Norway or things people are unable to buy in Norway, that would be good. Whereas once I arrive in Norway my money won't go nearly as far.

I know this is going to sound lame but she told me that beef jerky is really expensive in Norway. Also I am wondering if pepperoni is difficult to find in Norway because my friend likes pizza but she never has pepperoni pizza.

Also if you have any tips for traveling to Norway from the US.

    Thank you ^_^

EVERYTHING is wildly expensive in Norway. Like literally everything. But especially food and booze, I think. I've never been, but I have a friend who lives there. When she came to visit me, she was absolutely shocked by our prices for alcohol and shoes. I guess shoes are like 10x more expensive there.... But your ideas sound good!! Get stuff your friends will like. Maybe toss in some liquor... (Although I don't know how that works, with customs... I don't think you have to pay if it's a gift, but i many have totally made that up. You'll have to look that up.). That so cool you are going!!! Did you figure out if you can cam, while you are there?

You actually cannot bring any meat or meat products (meaning beef jerky or pepperoni) from the US into Norway, so you may want to get acquainted with Norwegian customs regulations before packing your luggage: http://www.visitnorway.com/us/About-...d-regulations/

JD is right on the money about EVERYTHING being expensive there, and alcohol is a great one if she's a drinker. Is your friend an expat or a Norwegian? If the former, it would really make the most sense to simply ask her what she misses most from home (maybe a certain flavour of chips, a type of cookie, etc.) and just bring her that.

When I used to go to Brazil my female friends over there always wanted me to bring some of the Victoria's Secret lotions as they were very expensive over there. I used to buy 6 tubes or bottles for $30. I have no Idea if they are expensive in Norway.

I would rather not cam while I am there. I just wouldn't feel comfortable knowing there are other people in the house who might be able to hear and even see me O_O . So I am just working extra hard and trying to create a buffer to pay my bills while I am gone. It does appear that I would be able to however, my friend's upload speed is the same as mine here. I'm just not comfortable doing that O_o .

Oh! Tampons! I remember those being so expensive in Europe. Of course, you have to be pretty good friends to bring that as a gift -- still, I would've hugely appreciated a box lol.

I have no idea. Also there is about a 20% sales tax on everything but gasoline, which is about 75%. A tour guide told us bringing bottles of aspirin is a good way to give nice tips to hotel maids etc. at little cost to us.

Well I am back from Norway, it was really awesome but mainly that had to do with my friend being really awesome. And all of her friends were awesome too.

I did bring a lot of beef jerky with me, some sleep aid medicine my friend wanted, Sominex I think it was? I also brought about five large bags of Cheetos, Aspirin and Tylenol. My friend is an amazing person. I spent roughly 15 days overseas. We stayed in Amsterdam for a few nights and went shopping in Sweeden. I am going to be attempting to move there in the next few months or so. Someone volunteered to marry me so I can get citizenship quickly.

Glad you had such a lovely visit! Be very careful about getting married for citizenship though -- do your own research on the process for gaining citizenship through marriage in that country (ex. if you marry a German, you do not get German citizenship; other countries have processes that take many years to full go through) and get to know this person before committing to spend a lifetime with them. I'd be very surprised if people weren't investigating very marriage fraud in western Europe, so you will be stuck with them for a while!
