Seriously though.... the wigs have saved my hair ( and my sanity ) till I could regrow my own hair... which took about forever and a day!
Taking some minimal precautions and doing your due diligence can have wonderful results.
Numero Uno... scalp protector.

Numero Dos... don't use krazy glue (seriously some chick did this!)
Numero 3... Use a glue or tape that is sensible. That means if you remove your wig every night, use a tape/glue that is meant for daily removal. If you wear your wig for a lengthy period of time (week+) use an equally appropriate glue/tape/glue+tape-combo.
4..................Don't even think about gluing or taping anything onto your hair. Yes, your hairline will look lower, but trust me, it only looks slightly odd to you, today only, and honestly no one else will be able to tell. A centimeter of (not even that much!) difference is not a big deal. I assure you. Do not glue or tape your wig onto your hair line!!! Cuz that will eventually result in a hairline waxing

... which we don't want to begin with!
Lucky number 5... When you remove your wig use an adhesive solvent. That will help protect your skin and your hairline... plus, it can extend the life of your wig. Easy on, easy off.
I hope that helps a bit.
Have fun!
