I tried travelling but had trouble getting appointments - were I to do it over again (recently retired), I would have travelled to smaller cities where I could have easily monopolized the market. Look for cities within driving distance so you don't have to pay for airfare, and even consider renting an RV for the trip so you can live in the RV and use the hotel room just for appointments (so it stays nice!).
Every city is different, and every city has a market for pretty much everything, you just have to figure out where you fit in!
