Default Lighting - what type, placement, etc...

I didn't see any threads on this after searching so decided to start a new topic. I'm trying to optimize my lighting and wanted to know what some of you use. A couple of don'ts that I've come across- Don't use an overhead light, and Don't use backlighting. Other than that, I've read recommendations ranging from using work lights (the utility type) which are halogen (and very hot) and bright (like 500-1000W), maybe one off to each side, and then diffusing them, to using an ordinary table/desk/floor lamp or two. What do you successful cam models use to provide a high quality, clear experience for your customers?

    Thanks in advance!

I would recomend LED light, this light isnt hot. If you planning to record clips too very good for that, but not so cheap though-3 lights will cost you over 1000$. And you will not sit yellow as most of girls

I've been experimenting with my lighting ever since I moved to a new cam space. For whatever reason the way I had my lighting set up in my old room does NOT work in my new room. I think it had to do with the color on the walls (my old room was grey/blue, my new room is pale yellow).

The things that helped the most were putting a darker background behind me (I just hung some curtains) and having two lights on the sides with one spotlight directly behind my cam. Unfortunately, the spotlight behind my cam was so bright that it gave me headaches every time I went on, which was making it hard for me to stay on long enough.

I finally bought some pink bulbs and now it doesn't bother me nearly as much to have all the lights shining in my face. Plus it helps keep you looking warm and not washed out or yellow.

I hadn't heard that, but now that you mention it I think you might be right. It looked HORRIBLE before I changed my backdrop.

I hadn't heard it before either but it came up in convo with another model and I that had issues before. She told me to stay away from yellow.. funny thing when I have a yellow sheet on my bed.. I drop the encoder. It could be a myth. Funny things happen with this encoder on SM. SM encoder is the only encoder that gives me problems with colors and lights.

I stick with white, blues, pinks, blacks but always have white bc its a lighter source even if its not a light.

I cam in a small space. I tried using a couple of my boyfriends high powered photography lights when I first started but it was way too hot for me to be comfortable working for 5-7 hours at a time. We switched to two 100 watt bulbs. I kind of break a couple of the rules (I use an overhead light and my second light usually sits behind me) but I think it works because I'm in a smaller space. I also hang some of my BFs bright colored backdrops. Right now I have bright pink up. Sometimes I do red or bright blue as well.
