Default I take offense to this...

Having people ask me why I don't do something else for work. It just gets under my skin, I don't know exactly why...perhaps I feel like it is an indirect stab at what I do for work, but I definitely have to bite my tongue whenever anyone suggests I find something else, and it's with ALL work in the adult industry. Before I was a cam girl, I was a PSO, before I was a PSO, I was a sex text operator. I've done adult work in one form or another for 9 years now, and any time I have a financial issue, someone always suggest that perhaps it is time for me to look outside the home for work...I immediately want to ask if they are fucking mad I have a higher cost of living then a lot of people I know, I'm a single mother of two who recieves no child support, I have absolutely no friends or family to help me as far as babysitting goes and I'm a full time college student (took this semester off to work though) and I definitely don't have anyone who could help me financially, I live alone with my kids and take care of us completely...I don't have a degree yet so finding a decent paying job would be extremely hard, the most I would be able to find would probably be 12 dollars an hour and that would really be having high hopes lol sorry for the rant just curious as to if anyone else takes offense when someone suggest you find another job, for whatever reason
I'm on Twitter, follow me I'll follow you!

A lot of people think sexworker = bottom-of-the-barrel desperation. We all know its not true, but this is not how the media portrays sexwork. Most people don't use their brains and just rely on the untrue information the media feeds them. The media obviously HAS to portray certain images.

I mean, could you imagine if the media glorified sexwork and talked about how amazing and flexible it is? Everyone would do it and would be making large amounts of money (but it would soon become oversaturated so that isn't good).

I'm actually glad when people make comments like "why don't you do something else???" and stuff because it shows me they are an idiot who can't think for themselves, so I can cross them off my list really quickly. I only like to be around open-minded people who use their brains and who don't rely on the media to make their opinions for them.

I used to replied nicely to the ones who asked me about getting a "real or proper job", but most of them were looking for dating or wanted " to know me better" - for free of course-,so now I reply : " why don't you get a real job so you can tip me or take me private"

Aside from me being cheeky (haha):

I came across a tumblr post in the mgf tag the other day, and the boyfriend wrote this:

    Name: idiotss.png
Views: 521
Size: 16.4 KB

I reblogged that, and basically called him a angry tiny dicked loser that has nothing better to do with his time/life. (I know i'm mature lol)

    His girlfriend proceeded to bomb my inbox with a bunch of bullshit about how camming is "so easy" yada yada yada. I told her, everything she is saying has nothing to do with the fact her boyfriend is a giant dickface. I blocked her and she wrote the following on her blog: {Mind you, there was no discussion going on about half the shit she wrote on her blog, and I have never seen any cam girls make any claims to the shit she was talking about either, she is just talking out of her ass lol}

i just wanna say that although being a cam girl is considered “Sex work” i feel like they shouldn’t act like they’re in the same situation that a prostitute (who is being pimped out) is in or a stripper or girls that are out there doing tangible sex work.

first off being a cam girl is mad safe and you’re basically in control of everything you do, you’re your own boss and thats great, but camming is pretty widely accepted and you’re not being scrutinized the way a woman standing on the corner is.

a cam girl has no fear of getting arrested, raped or robbed to survive. not like a prostitute and stripper would. a cam girl can do it from the comfort of her own home and choose who she wants to offer her services to.

yeah you’re offering up your sexuality and ultimately your sex, but if you say camming isn’t easy you’re fucking lying to yourself.

power to you for using your resources to make money, I’m not bashing on you guys for that, but i really think you goes should just take a step back and realize what you’re doing is in reality very easy money, and you’re really not going through the same trials and tribulations that a prostitute, escort, or stripper has to endure.

and aside from sex workers you really can’t say the camming online is easier than a 9-5 job because it really is not, its the easiest job on the planet omg

I guess people just don't see it as a "real job" because you can't really put it on a resume.

PLUS, people think it's "easy" because they see this:

    "_____ tipped 5 tokens"
    "_____ tipped 8 tokens"
    "_____ tipped 20 tokens"

In their mind, they just saw that woman make $33 in like, a minute. In REALITY, she only made $11.

It seems like money is just being thrown at her, but...little do they know 65% - 35% of those contributions are not actually hers, depending on the site she's on.

Maybe it's just men and women that are bitter that they were not born female and/or do not have the balls to go on cam and do what cam girls do.

~~ "get a real job" and be miserable like I am sitting in a dark, lonely little cubicle for 10 hours a day, instead of staying at home infront of your computer being complimented by dozens of men. ~~

You can put it on a resume. You are a business owner. Especially if you form an LLC or S-Corp, it will look legit and have a paper trail too. But you couldn't be so open about the job duties though. You'd have to have somewhat of a cover.

Preparing a sassy response might help. If someone is trashing your job, you don't have to accept that BS nicely.

Also, I personally do find camming "easier" than many other jobs I have had. But just because a job is less physically taxing or gives a higher wage per hour without formal education, doesn't mean it is not a "real" job. Not every job has equal difficulty. Camming is easier than working in mine, but a dude in an office that dicks around on reddit 1/2 the day is probably not working as hard as most camgirls. Any job that gives you money=real job.

Yeah. I guess you *can* put it on a resume, but...I meant in a way that...you can't put it on your resume if you were going to apply for a vanilla job like a school teacher or a nurse etc. Like...you COULD do that, but...I don't get the impression that they'd take to well to the idea of hiring a sex worker...only because everyone is so closed minded and has so many misconceptions about women that do this kind of work.

I could totally see it being a great resume peice, if you were applying for a job in the adult industry, as a manager, personal assistant, graphic designer etc.

@[email protected] I just meant that, most people know we can't write "Online Adult Entertainer" on a resume and expect the response to be a positive one haha.

Funnily enough, everyone I've even mentioned camming to has been like "Can you actually make good money off of that?" I've actually never met anyone IRL who thought camming was "so much easy money." I did get the "When are you gonna get a real job?" thing a lot when I was first stripping.

Either way, who cares? They aren't paying your bills or having to work a schedule around your life and needs. Why not ask if them if it's so easy, why aren't they doing it? I don't care how "high and mighty" your morals are, if you truly believe something is the "easiest money in the world" you would hop all over it. People's "morals" are so easily swayed by easy money. So if they aren't doing it themselves, there must be some other reason - they don't have the guts, which means it's not "so easy for anyone to do" like they claim.

Or, as my best friend once said after I described a particularly funny call to him, "You do what you have to do, I guess."

I was so pissed. My friend and I met in college, so he knows very well that I can get a (boring) corporate job just like the one he is constantly complaining about if necessary. So condescending. Recently, his partner was looking for a job and considered sex work and I had to mention that he probably wasn't cut out for it. That wasn't sour grapes either, it takes a lot, as you all know. Any yahoo can't just sign up and make a living, esp if they are accustomed to working under myriad managers for years and years.

Exactly. I wouldn't be able to find the post if my life depended on it, but I'm pretty sure someone wrote a sassy response along these lines once in a similar thread. Like, "Oh, what I do isn't a real job? That's funny, I could've sworn I don't get paid for it in Monopoly money."

Its all in jealousy. I mean, would they ever tell any other entrepreneur to ~*get a real job*~? No.

I don't think it's just the sex work that makes this "not a real job" to some people. It's also that in their eyes, we never leave our homes. They don't see that we have to spend time creating content, buying "supplies," etc. A similar attitude is thrust upon those who make their living selling on eBay, except that doesn't have the same stigma as sex work. (I've done the eBay thing, and I think I prefer webcamming.)

Also, I do agree that this is easier than work where you are face to face with clients. There's no "ban" button in real life.

People say that you need to get a real job because sometimes they fear women's sexuality and power that goes with that sexuality. Sex is a taboo subject for people but really many fear women making money off of their sexuality, talents, and brains. A brainy sexual woman has always been feared and demonized in many societies...they say this to cut you down and try to shame you into becoming a puppet of societal norms. Besides, being a sex worker is one of the hardest things to do in my book because you must think on your toes and have a quick wit about yourself in this industry. I rather talked on the phone and 25-100 dollars an hour from home than work at Burger King any time. Do not people's fear of female sexuality get in the way of you making money Making money off sexual fantasies is art form and we are all artists

As someone with multiple degrees who also has a "real job" I say to hell with them. My real job doesn't make me enough money to live the way I want and the way I want my son to live as well. Besides even though I don't "need" to be camming to make ends meet I actually rather enjoy doing it. Imagine if more people liked their jobs? I am sure the world would be a much better place. I say if you are happy doing what you are doing yhen keep on doing it. All the power to you OP for going to school as a mom. I only just finished school myself and spent the first four years of mu son's life innschool and it was damn hard.

People are quick to look down at what they don't understand. I can care less what anyone thinks of how i make money. I enjoy my job, working for myself, and making my own hours. What it comes down to is work smarter or harder? Personally i would rather do the first and laugh my way to the bank while these people who judge me work their ass for nothing. ; )

-I work at least 40 hours a week. Not just on cam, but creating new content and communicating with regs.
-I get a pay check with a pay stub
    -I pay taxes
-If anything happens between my partner and I, I know I will be fine financially

Hmmm that seems like a real job to me.

IRL I never had someone say that to me. But I hear it or something similar every now and then on cam. I posted this in the "camming rocks" thread the other day...

Camming rocks because I have the freedom to do that and basically whatever else I want.

Like a few others have said I think the people who say that are just mad or jealous. I would just be like.....

If they persist with their belittling rhetoric I'd start singing the chorus of Ace Hood's song "why you mad".....

    Now why you mad?
    I'm getting bands
I hear them hating holmes, I understand
Now watch me ball, stay in the stands
    Now why you mad?
    Why you mad?
    Why you mad?

    Why you mad?
    They say I'm arrogant
    That's why you mad?

The guys/people that say "get a real job" clearly aren't thinking. What logical sense does it make to quit this job for a job that you have to slave away at just to get paid an average or below average wage. Not only does "a real/regular job" not allow most to live well but you have to work 40-60 hours for that crappy pay. 40-60 hours a week means that you won't have enough time to spend with your bf, gf, husband, wife, kid/s and if you're single that means no life for you. Then when you're done with that grueling week you only get 2 days off if you're lucky just to do it all over again on Monday. An with the way the economy is right now you might not even get health care or a have a guaranteed job. You put all that time in and tomorrow you could be laid off because there isn't enough work, the company is downsizing, or the higher ups want to cut people so they can get a bonus or higher pay. I say "no thanks, you keep your precious "real/regular job" ". We choose to work smarter not harder. Anyone who says "get a real job" or anything along that line can just stay mad.

first off being a cam girl is mad safe and you’re basically in control of everything you do, you’re your own boss and thats great, but camming is pretty widely accepted and you’re not being scrutinized the way a woman standing on the corner is.

a cam girl has no fear of getting arrested, raped or robbed to survive. not like a prostitute and stripper would. a cam girl can do it from the comfort of her own home and choose who she wants to offer her services to.

yeah you’re offering up your sexuality and ultimately your sex, but if you say camming isn’t easy you’re fucking lying to yourself.

power to you for using your resources to make money, I’m not bashing on you guys for that, but i really think you goes should just take a step back and realize what you’re doing is in reality very easy money, and you’re really not going through the same trials and tribulations that a prostitute, escort, or stripper has to endure.

and aside from sex workers you really can’t say the camming online is easier than a 9-5 job because it really is not, its the easiest job on the planet omg
I literally lol'd when I read this. I bet she also thinks that camming isn't porn or part of the porn industry. "Camming is pretty widely accepted" really??? Then why are there so many stories posted on here talking about "my boyfriend/husband doesn't want me to cam", "my husband/bf only wants me to do non-nude/topless shows", or my s.o. told me "you're a slut because you fuck yourself for money". She sounds hella delusional and needs to step into reality. I mean has she read some of the male forums that discuss camming or has she even watched some of these shows that feature camming....i.e Tyra, my secret life shows on lifetime/oxygen, etc. Smh, I can't.

oh don't get me wrong...I'm very glad that the job isn't morally accepted by a lot of people, because as someone said, if it were, people would be ALL over it and the industry would be extremely too over saturated. IMHO I already feel like its over saturated! I'd rather it be on the verge of illegal but NOT illegal lol anything to make it more forbidden but not actually FORBIDDEN is awesome in my eyes!
