Question Stripper Hair Conundrum--Senegalese Twists or Weave?? (Black Dancer Question)

I'm getting ready to audition in a few weeks once I finish getting some stuff in order, and I'm so excited/ready! I'm planning everything out in my head, but I have a problem--my hairstyle is the one thing that I can't seem to decide upon.

I'm black, so I know that everything has to be on point when I audition, especially my hair. But I also know, from years of experience, what style I would be comfortable with wearing on an everyday basis (OTC too). When I first danced, I wore a lace-front wig. That wig, and every wig, is so damn ANNOYING--irritating my hairline, hurting my scalp--within a month's time, I'm ready to toss it in the trash. I think a wig would also affect my earnings, because last time I got so distracted with the irritation, and the worry that it was on correct and looking right, that it made me lose confidence/money. So, no wig for me.

A search of SW reveals that the most acceptable kind of hair on a black dancer is a weave. I honestly haven't attempted getting a weave in about 12 years, but from what I remember (the ridiculous maintenance, the constant itching and dryness, the point where it started to look really bad) I don't miss it. Also, I cut off my dreadlocks in August, so I'm not sure if my 'fro is long enough to support a weave.

On the other hand, I really like the style of hair I have now--Senegalese twists. I'm attaching a random picture of what it looks like.

I'm lighter-skinned like Beyonce, and my twists are dark auburn, and slightly shorter.

I like the hair because it's very neat, comfortable for me, and it has a LOT of volume. I can see myself tossing my hair around on stage, and during LDs and I think it'd be very sexy. But, since this isn't the standard for black women in the industry, I'm worried that I'll start going for auditions and slowly realize as I get rejected from club after club that I chose the WRONG hair.

So what do you ladies think? Should I stick with the Senegalese, or wow with a weave? (Alliterations lol)

Honestly, I'm not a braids/twists fan so I would say go with the weave. If you get good weave and take care of it you wont have any problems.
Buy good quality hair (brazilian is good) so you don't have to keep buying new hair everytime you reinstall your weave (and it will obvs look better). If you get a weave, make sure you take care of the hair underneath! Get some applicator bottles and fill one with half shampoo, half water, another with half conditioner, half water and another with half hair moisturiser (olive oil moisturiser is good) mixed with coconut oil or some olive oil.
Every week wash the hair underneath using the applicator bottles and use the one with moisturiser to squirt into your hair underneath once a day or once every other day. Not only will this help to nourish your hair but it will stop it from becoming dry and itchy (also dont get a net either). I do this and my weave is never itchy, unless it's ready to be washed.
Also to take care of the extensions use some of the moisturiser on it every couple of days (just a little) so it keeps it looking good.

A couple other things: don't leave the weave in for more than 2 months and when you wash it you have to make sure the hair underneath is completely dry. I use a hooded dryer (you can buy one for cheap) and sit under it. It's easier than using a normal hairdryer because I can just sit there (rather than going in between each track) and watch TV or do some work if I have any.

    Hope that helps.

Your attachment doesn't work for me, so I don't have any specific advice regarding how it looks on you, but really, it depends on the clubs you're auditioning it. Braids/twists will fly in certain clubs but not others - there's no set standard across the board. You could pay a visit to the clubs you want to audition at as a customer and see how the other black girls style their hair. Or, you can just go for the audition as you are and see what happens. There's nothing stopping you from going back with different hair if you get rejected.

ETA -- your photo works now and MEOW! You are a total hottie!

Shanna said it best, but FWIW I like the twists a lot, & tbh tho I have heard of them I am not entirely sure what a weave is

it depends on the club. unfortunately, clubs can be dumb about hiring hot black women, so I would say go for the weave before you get hired and then transition to the twists after you've been there for a bit. I'm all for the twists, but I can see that being a no-go for a lot of club managers who can't think outside barbie-doll-stripper norms.

Update: My Senegalese twists started pulling at my hair with its heaviness, and the braids began to fall out, one by one. I couldn't imagine the embarrassment of having this happen in the club, so I took them out. I got a nice comfortable 14" synthetic/human hair blend wig. I figured that by the time I was fed up with this wig, I'd make enough money to afford a new one. I plan to audition later this week. Thank you all for the advice!

I definitely agree about checking out the club before hand and see what the other black girls look like. I personally like curly hair but of couse in more "white" clubs the black girls always wear their hair striaght. In a more mixed club you can do any syle: wavy, straight, curly. I am an avid lace front wig wearer but am ready for another sew in. Most girls at my last club had them. All had booty lengh long hair and it was gorg. Not for me though, that's just too damn much. A quick question where do you buy your wigs from? All my wigs are comfortable and don't irritate. How is your hair underneath? Is it braided and under a stockingcap? The Senegalese twists shown above are really pretty at that length. I've worked with girls with twists a lot shorter and I think it's not attractive. Gotta be able to swing that hair! Sometimes I will even go with some sort of updo, but that's only after I've gotten hot as hell dancing and I only do it with certain dresses.

I buy my hair from a local wig/beauty supply shop. I never feel comfortable buying wigs online, because I like to try them on and see how they frame my face, check the color with my skintone, etc. This local place has literally hundreds of wigs! The last time I went, I bought a Bobbi Brown human/synthetic blend, and it's holding up really well--every wig I've had before sheds like crazy, and this one doesn't at all!

WEAVE!! I'm a natural girl and while the twists are fabulous in some clubs they will no doubt be "too ethnic". To be honest, if you're light skinned you probably could get away with it easier than if you're skin we're darker but I would stick to weave/wig. The twists are real world beautiful but not necessarily a "fantasy look". Best of luck to you!
