Default Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special Discussion

I know a lot of us SWers are Whovians...

Stop reading if you're scared about spoilers….

What did everyone think??? I think there's going to be a lot of stories in the future about this new "rescued" version of Gallifrey he put in suspended animation…I thought tonight would transition from the 11th to the 12th Doctors though, and that hasn't happened…I was pleasantly surprised by the special though, I expected a great episode but got even better…

    I LOVE Doctor Who!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched Doctor Who's holiday special and it was a blast. I love the snowmen and the control they had over Victorian London. However, I must say that I enjoy the 10th doctor because of his big brown eyes.

I'm dying down here way south of the border because there isn't any BBC available. I'm a huge fan going all the way back to Tom Baker.

At any rate, I've been trying to satisfy myself with online trailers plus blurbs like

I'm definitely going to have to make a visit back to the states for THIS ...

^^^ are you referring to the #1 original doctor played by William Hartnell in the early '60's ??? Or referring to the original continuous run series which ran from 1963 to 1989 covering doctors #1 through #7 ?

... teaser request SnakeBabe, how was the movie ? Did you see it in 3D ?

in the meantime, all I'm able to access regarding the 'new stuff' are clips like ...

I am a big fan of David Tennant as the tenth doctor because I love his hair and his facial expressions

BTW they also did a TV movie "An Adventure in Space and Time", a "making-of-..." about the origin of the series with Hartnell. That one I haven't caught. Meanwhile, Davison directed himself, Colin Baker and McCoy in this pleasant short about how the remaining old-timers saw themselves dealing with the anniversary being a straight new-generation job (video player a bit down the page).

Oh, and the last Scene of Day of the Doctor is one stupendous bit of fanservice for WhoClassic fans.

    Eternal thanks LaurieLegs !!!

First view opinion ... the 50th anniversary special did a great job of providing challenging entertainment for the Doctor's well established fan base. However, it was a bit chintzy on content i.e. a 2 hour special should have been produced. I'm also 'impressed' by the smoothness of the producer's / writers' insertion of the 'War Doctor' into an already well established 'history' ( including a new performance by 'one shot' 8th doctor Paul McGann to try and smooth the transition ).

It will be extremely interesting to find out where all of these new, and as yet unresolved, 'historical' plot issues takes the show's new season ...

PS IMHO as a LONG time fan, the 50th anniversary special didn't have as much 'impact' as the 25th anniversary special did when it was first broadcast. Of course, I was much more impressionable 25 years ago LOL !!!

PPS I wonder whether all of the 'revised history' and plot twists were 100% deliberate, versus after the fact reactions re John Hurt and new NEW doctor Peter Capaldi. Had the producers and writers originally intended for John Hurt to actually be the next doctor, but forced to change plans due to 'budget constraints' ??? Given that the second generation Dr. Who is being produced by a 'subdivision' of the BBC ( Wales ), budget problems would explain the 'short' 50th anniversary episode, the marketing of the 50th anniversary episode in theatres, and the 'short-lived' tenure of highly acclaimed ( and high priced ) actor John Hurt.

PPPS 'food for thought' for serious fans ... 'Et In Arcadia Ego'
