Dizzy Addictions counselor less risky than teaching?

Am I right or not? I'm thinking of switching my major due to my past. To psychology from education. Will that be a smart choice? Why or why not? I am so paranoid about being outed and yes I know blahblahblah you will be outed no matter what blah.. but if i was in fact, outed, would it be less taboo if I was an addictions counselor? Maybe common sense question but I'm freaking out. I don't cam anymore. I cammed for about 6 months (well 1 year on and off.) and quit about 9 months ago.

If you do not have your videos uploaded to tube/porn sites etc, the chances of someone recognizing you sound pretty slim to me. I mean, if you only cammed for a short period of time, and have quit for awhile....I doubt it'd be much of an issue.

That'd be pretty judgemental for an employer to be mad about you being a sex worker, yet they deal with a population of individuals that is consistently involved in many taboo life choices.

That's what I thought. Like the people in that field would be more accepting of mistakes than education officials..who expect you to be this angelic being of a teacher. One video of me I found online and you have to know my specific name and it's on a russian website. I got the video removed, but there's a screenshot still there. As for other pics/screenshots, I got them removed via the webmaster/the website I cammed for got them taken down. I mean, who knows what's out there, though. It freaks me out so bad. Such a stupid mistake I made 2 years ago to enter the camming world. Silly little 18 year old me. I didn't even think.

You're not being silly, this is a big decision. For whatever it's worth, I've been BOTH (but before camming). It's a TOUGH market out there for education, and expect crappy health insurance. You will deal with more unethical and ridiculous unpaid meetings and volunteer "opportunities" in a school. You'll also need to look into your state requirements. For mine, I had to get a Master's in Ed before taking the tests for licensure, and there is no such thing as tenure anymore for most. I loved the teaching aspect, but the other hoops are really crazy. They very may well go onto an image search and "out" you, but that doesn't mean not getting employed. You'll also find relatively little freedom in your curriculum since teachers now have to "teach to the test" referring to all student state testing which is how schools get their funding determined.
Now, the downsides of addiction counseling. Again, check your state's requirements. Probably slightly lower pay, but if you have a personal understanding, it is very valuable. The attachments and heartbreak of addiction counseling can be heartbreaking and the turn-over rate is huge. Lots of documents and limitations to what you can counsel.
Good sides to both: DO YOUR PASSION!! It never hurts to have that on your resume (whereas "cam girl" doesn't usually cut it) You are very smart to examine your options before locking into one area, and the schedule for teachers who are parents really helps. In many places, simply offering DUI required classes (i.e. a "nudge from the judge") are in desperate need for help. Hearing others in their sobriety path (regardless of outcome) may help you with your personal addictions background.
Tough question, but glad you asked. Hoped this helps a bit~

    You did.
But can you answer me this, from experience? Getting outed in the addictions counselor field for being a past webcam model 5 years ago not as big of a deal? (i'll graduate college in like 5+ years) or not a big deal at all/they dont really care?

For teaching: Depends upon the state, but be sure of fingerprinting, lots of references, sophisticated "check you out" software (the districts foot the bill), a ton of interviews, a great/checkable reason for any work gap, a "sample class" or teaching video with live students, state checks (including all tax income) and reporting any discrepencies, and more.

Depends upon who you work for. If it is an independent practice, no worries. If it is for a gov agency, expect the same as what I posted below for teaching. If it is somewhere inbetween (as if you are employed as an agency by the state to refer those who need/ask for help), no big deal.

I'm kind of leaning toward a correctional facility or something. i think i'm totally over the idea of ever teaching. it's just not realistic.

Its a better choice, yes. Just you can never ever work with kids, even after you are retired, or their parents will find out somehow and come @ you and get you fired.

I don't think that is true. If you make it into a Streamate popup, you will NEVER be removed from the popup rotation. I know this because I have like 3 popups and I emailed everyone at Streamate and they have told me that they cannot be removed. I wasn't even nude in mine. I was just sitting there typing and responding in most of them. But its still an ad for an adult site.

With MyFreeCams, there are guys who literally record every girl's show and paste it all over pirate sites and makes gifs and stuff.

So if you plan to avoid Streamate and MyFreeCams, you might not be recognized, but both are major budget sites.

I am a certified addictions counselor and have an MS in psychology and currently work in that field. I also am fairly visible on SM and find videos of myself pirated from time to time. Not saying you will or won't be caught, but the background check didn't reveal it. Also, I have a teaching degree and was a stripper and two former stripper friends of mine are currently teachers... So there's that...

Thanks Red! This is a subject I think needs a little more light shed on it. Everyone knows there is danger for your vanilla career in being a cam model. Possiblilites of being outed. Justifiable fear. But- for me I went a couple years only stripping, not even camming anymore because I was paralyzed in fear of applying to school, applying for a nurse aid position, of people KNOWING. but that was too much stagnation for me and I think it would be wise if we made a more comprehensive list of careers you can transition from camming into - I felt like, the careers we can or cannot go into, as mentioned on here are very unclear, vague, etc.
Some things eager to do, in addition to camming, are dental assisting, or esthetican w/ lazer certifications, radiology( x ray) tech but have been flat out scared of the screening process after graduating.

that was too much stagnation and boredom for me. I wish there was a more comprehensive list of careers anyone can transition from camming into,. SW forums are somewhat unclear and vague on the subject, Imo.. ;/

In what state? Not sure if that matters but...
And are you nervous about being caught?
What do you think would happen in your line of work if you were caught? Like for you personally?
I'm talking about the addictions counselor thing, obviously.
What type of background check did they do?
I ran one on myself yesterday (btw, if you guys didn't know you can get a free one every year online) and it looked fine.
My vanilla job I work at now shows up. Nothing else.
But if they dug deeper, I worry I'd be fucked. Do they make you sign that document that lets them look at your IRS stuff?

I just dont wanna be thousands in student loan debt (I dont get grants, FAFSA gives me nothing) and unable to get a job because of my past or for being outed and then expected to pay my student loans anyway with no job and no money. i.e why I'm def. not going into teaching now. I might take a break from school after this semester and wait til I'm 24 to go back, when my fafsa won't be based on my parents anymore... but that's so long... (I'm 20 now, 4 years is a while to wait to start working again toward your degree :/)

Thanks anyone whose replied! I'm feeling better, though.

Where I live, Addiction Counceling is just a certification. I work for a nonprofit, and they just ran a criminal background check and a check looking for grievances from the greviance board and a check regarding crimes involving minors. I'm not sure of your background, but a significant number of addiction counselors are in recovery, and a perfect background is not required (as far a criminal).

I'm not worried at all, but I take full responsibility for my choices and outcome.

I was an education major and switched it halfway through. I am now graduated and didn't find a job in my field but took more classes on the side and recently started working for a tax office. Haha. No criminal background checks and I can do my own taxes now.
