In my city it will only show up if a person goes to that office ( the adult entertainer licence office ) and makes an open records request.

IDK - I would check with your city and their rules - my license is for escorting and will only be released if a request is made in that office

I think it is a gamble either way to be honest...it would appear to be less risky to switch but you just never know what type of person would be making a decision regarding your future if you were somehow outted, regardless of which path you take. I live in a state where it's legal to fire someone for breathing and I'd bet any employer in my general area, regardless of business, would fire one for having camming in their past. It's ridiculous :/

You've been starting a lot of these threads lately. Can't you ask these questions in the first thread you started about background checks?

One of my dayjobs involves working with mothers and babies. Does that count?

I have worked in pharmaceuticals and was able to get my PTCB (Pharmacy Tech) National Certification, and renew my license at the 2-year mark, no problem. Background checks have been required, but I don't think anything ever showed up.....or if it did no one was bothered by it and working around drugs people tend to be a bit jumpy if there are any red flags. I believe I have to take another one to cement my acceptance into pharmacy school, which is new, but I am not worried, since I've undergone 4 or 5 background checks in my life and never had any issue.

However, it is variable from state to state and company to company. For example, I bet if I tried to be an FBI agent there is no doubt in my mind their background check would be so comprehensive that they would find out I used to dance as well as how old I was when I lost my first tooth LOL.

hhhmmm, just another thought to throw in here...I am completely not ashamed about doing any of this kind of work. When (and it is an inevitable 'when' in my world) people learn about this aspect of my life in vanilla careers (which have included teaching, being an addictions counselor and psychologist--yes, I have multiple degrees--and public relations for the past 10 years), I find if I look someone directly in the eye and simply say, "Yeah, I'm so proud that I had/have the gumption to do something on the side that I really enjoy and feel good about." That deflates most "shock and awe" initial responses, and the conversation always moves on. I think most people know someone in the sex industry already, and it's only when we show shame/embarrassment that others feel awkward, in my experiences.
Please know I know that this will not work for everyone and in every situation, but perhaps it's helpful to know. Keep us updated!

My uncle is an addictions counselor in fl and he's very openly gay. He says there aren't even enough people in his field to handle all of the counseling so he's slammed and makes a crazy huge salary.

It's been a bit since you've posted this but I think I may have some actual info for you. I actually was a social worker and addictions counselor before I started camming, and I will tell you it's a very open and accepting field. Many of your co-workers will be in recovery and have pasts they don't like to talk about much either. Social work in general is one of the best majors to choose if you have any kind of "checkered past" because your past isn't important, the clients you are helping are. I will let you know that it is an incredibly trying job being a counselor. My internship kicked me for a loop when a client I'd known and been working with for a month left our program and overdosed that night. I am not saying that to curb your enthusiasm but just to prepare you for the hardship that addictions counseling can cause. There are also lots of other jobs in social work that also won't judge your past. Veterans affairs, immigration, child care, pregnancy prevention, helping human trafficking victims...hell, a lot of girls I know that cam also help women get out of prostitution (I think that's an ideal job because we get "sex work", so they won't feel so judged).

If you are interested in being a counselor you will want to start earning your CDCA. A lot of community colleges actually offer classes that will certify you for the CDCA and place you in a killer internship. They don't overload you with silly requirements, and it's the best for your money. You can also take classes for your CDCA without going to a college, they usually run about 200$ for a weekend course, but you will not have the internship or experience. Now would also be a good time to go to things like police station public service nights where they will pass around drugs and inform you about the crime and such in your area. If you go on SAMHSA they have FREE packets, etc.

Feel free to friend me, I'd be more than happy to help you out any way I can.
