If you really can't do smtg w/o drinking or drugs -- & I would offer this rule of thumb for anything, not just dancing/adult industry -- then maybe it's not for you. That's a great way to become unhealthily dependent on your substance of choice.

My only drugs were joint & vitamin supplements, & ibuprofen. I am very shy by nature, & often had difficulty approaching ppl but I learnt to make up for it by giving the best, most eye-catching show I could onstage. I let my stage sets act as my icebreaker. When that didn't work I just had to bite the bullet & give it a good old-fashioned cold approach.

I'm not a sociable person to begin with, so I like to have a few drinks while I'm working. I only drink beer and will occasionally do a shot if the customer insists, but it has to be Patrón. I really don't care much for alcohol and I have no desire to drink outside of work unless I have to attend some type of party that requires me to make small talk with lots of strangers- similar to what is expected of me at work.

If I don't have a few beers in me, I have a hard time socializing. I'm an extreme introvert, in the sense that I have very few friends and I hardly ever leave my house. I basically choose to live a life of quiet meditation and making lighthearted conversation with dozens of complete strangers night after night is a draining activity for me. Beer makes it much more tolerable and if I didn't have the option to drink, I probably wouldn't be stripping or attending very many social functions.

You should do whatever works for you. No judgement here. Just keep in mind that if you're someone who really likes alcohol, you may become more susceptible to addiction if you're drinking both at work and in your free time. You should never drink to the point of drunkenness while you're at work because sooner or later, you will make poor decisions as a result of your intoxication.

I also love to drink ... and always earned much better money in clubs after my 3rd or 4th margarita. However, after a few months of regular dancing and drinking, no matter how young and healthy you are, that level of regular hard drinking will definitely 'take it's toll' on you ... physically, psychologically, etc. And regular drug use will take an even greater 'toll' even faster. Thus I have to agree with other posters that, if drinking and/or drug use are a personal 'requirement' for successful dancing earnings, it's best to quit dancing ASAP !!! The alternative is to keep going, to damage your looks, your attitude, and your health, to see your earnings begin to decline, and to then become even more dependent on drinking and/or drug use to 'deal'.

i never drink at work, but that doesn't mean i haven't had other vices..almost 3 year sober ( got sober around the same time i started dancing), and lately i've really been struggling when customers offer me party drugs. because i'm one of the few girls at my club who works sober, i can only do around 3 days MAX without being totally emotionally burn out, and it takes a few hours for me to warm up and get into hustle mode. its a huge struggle..everytime i give in ( maybe once or twice a year) i feel SO guilty it just ruins my mood for the night.

I used to have to drink a lot when I was new because I was very shy and didn't like the customers in that particular club in general. I hated having to talk to them. It was a problem for me for a long time so then after some soul searching I switched to a low pressure, nude, no alcohol club to curb drinking at work. It helped a lot because not only was I not drinking, but I found the customers were higher quality and a lot more bearable. The hustle was different too, so I really had to work on my closing lines. I found that I didn't have to rely on drinking to make money as long as I worked on my lines and fake smiled a lot.

    -Fake smile
-Eye contact and more fake smiling from stage
    -Approach customer, fake smiling
-Use approach line to sit with customer
    -Use closing line
-More fake smiling and eye contact

I think that would be my suggestion for anyone who wants to try not drinking on the job. Find a decent low pressure, non-alcohol club if possible. And read that sticky in Hustle Hut to work on your closing lines, seriously. Once you have your hustle down pat, you should make money sober or drunk.

When I switched around to other clubs I did drink, but not nearly as often or as much as I used to. Nowadays I have to stay sober because I tried drinking one time recently and I felt like I had a harder time using my lines, or I would lose track of the time and sit with a customer for too long. I still like to drink, but I haven't been drinking much anymore and I feel a lot better physically. I drive now so I really can't drink at all when I go to work.

I think it has to do with your confidence mostly. Because when I first started I was always getting wasted every single shift because I was way too shy to get naked on stage or even talk to people I didn't know. I didn't just have confidence issues with how I looked but with how I talked, what I said, how I seemed to other people if that makes sense... now I'm 100000x more confident in my looks, my hustle, how other people see me, etc.. I think you just need to force yourself to work completely 100% sober (maybe on a dayshift when it's slow). It'll allow you to focus on the hustle tips you can read on here and really work like it's a vanilla job! Don't get in the habit of just showing up, getting drunk, and seeing what happens.. lol. (I know I should be taking my advice I've gotten a little carried away a couple shifts in a row..) But eventually the more you work sober and the more money you make your confidence will go up as well. Once you see how much these guys love you (even sober!) and are giving their money to you you'll realize that you are one sexy mama who can do whatever she wants!

I used to be the trash bag at work, it didn't start out that way either- it was a gradual process that became a dependency for me to work. Over 1 year ago I decided it was time to create a new habit. Working sober was tough for awhile, it took courage to face the insecurities that I had been squashing with substances (mostly alcohol) but I wouldn't dream of drinking at work now- I make so much more money and am healthier for it too.

It took me several practise runs to quit drinking at work but I managed to do it after deciding that drinking on the job was not a long term option anymore. (PM for more info if you want).

I will never forget about 7 years ago I went up to one of the hottest dancers I have ever had the pleasure of working with, who also gave flawless performances in terms of physical dancing ability (I've seen better but she was really good). I wanted to check & see how she was feeling before I put her up, and for a change I had time to do so as it was the beginning of the night. She told me she was OK to go, she was just scared of stage and would be alright once she got it over with. I said 'You've got to be kidding me--you are hot as hell and you dance flawlessly--you are telling me you are sacred of the stage??' and she said 'Yes, every time I go up.'

I was shocked, as I can usually tell how a dancer is feeling by watching the way she moves. Most of them telegraph their emotional state and/or how they feel about the song. Not this girl. I immediately offered to buy her a drink. Don't lynch me, she was never one of the ones with substance abuse issues lol.

Well I've had my share of those, but I never ever drink at work as it just slows me down & doesn't help at all. But I have known roughly the same ratio of DJs to dancers who cannot perform without drinking and/or doing drugs. If I had been a dancer instead of a DJ for 14 years, there is no doubt in my mind I'd have been one of those who drank and/or did drugs to deal with the shit. Because in some of these clubs there's a whole lot of shit to deal with!

Simone I hear you on the three day thing. In the rougher clubs that's as long as I can go without needing a break. People who haven't worked in these kinds of clubs don't have a fucking clue. Not even the more enlightened customers in those clubs have a fucking clue how stressful it can be. Not these DJs in the slick clubs with rules up the ass, either--though they often have other kinds of stress to deal with, like having to play Motley Crue 'Girls, Girls, Girls' 4-5 times a night which would drive me screaming from the fucking booth.

And the fact that by the end of the night in these 'circus' clubs, way more than half the staff is wasted of all manner of controlled substances doesn't make it any easier!
You must have chaos within you to give birth to a dancing star.
    Friedrich Nietzsche

Free your mind, and your ass will follow.
