Default my bones hurt from dancing...

Hey guys-- so I just started up dancing this week after taking a three year hiatus. I'm 15 pounds heavier than when I was dancing before-- I'm 5'5 and I weigh around 105 pounds now-- and everytime I move around on the floor I just want to die because my bones hurt so much. Specifically the bone in the back of your spine that kind of sticks out, the bones right above me butt, my knees, my hip bones, and my ribs. I remember all the bruising and soreness of my thighs, calves and arm muscles, but I really don't remember my bones hurting like this before. I was complaining about it at the club and this girl was telling me I'm too skinny and if I gained weight I wouldn't be in pain. Is it because of my size or does my body just need to toughen up?

when you start, after a break, you are gonna be sore for awhile.at your height, 105 is VERY thin , you were 15 pounds lighter before?? not to sound preachy and all but that sounds seriously underweight. even at 105 that's considered underweight. your bones WILL toughen up, so it might be just from that but im also thin ( and 5'5) and i notice when i gain some weight it gives me more cushion.

I was kind of debating on answering the same as Simone, but I can't be preachy at only 10lbs heavier than you (also 5'5).

When I began dancing, I was 18 and 105 as well. It doesn't look THAT skinny if you're wearing it well, as I don't remember being too bony or anything.

I do notice that I have an easier time sitting on my tailbone, leaning back with my legs in a V as an example, maybe try gaining just a few pounds? If it doesn't help, it's pretty easy to drop 5-10lbs anyway.

Sorry guys, typo-- I was 15 pounds heavier before, I was 5'5 and 120 pounds, which is why I was wondering if my bones hurting had something to do with being thinner. My weight fluctuates a lot depending on how stressed I am but I never go to double digits, yikes!

Are you having your menstrual cycle at all? My bone/joint aches are more pronounced then. I get aches in my tail bone area and knees specifically. If I work many days in a row I will feel the aches then too.

I am not too sure about the cause of those aches and I'm concerned about wear and tear of my knees. I can't offer much in the way of what you can do besides staying off your knees. There is MSM supplements which are supposedly good for joint/bone pain, I'm looking into it myself. I've heard positive things about it from another dancer friend who has taken them.

I'm 45 and almost 2 inches taller than you and weigh 7 pound more and was 102 my first 8 years I danced and my muscles hurt but never my bones. You may be getting arthritis? I only dance like 8 shifts a month or 2 and even working 5 days in a row I don't have that. I'd go see a chiropractor and massage therapist. Your body may be out of alignment and that can put pressure on bones. Good luck!

You literally ache when you start dancing again... for like a month or two. Or at least I always did.

It was better when I worked last night, I took a few days off to let my body heal. I avoided doing anything that involved my bones touching the floor, which made for some lame dancing but whatever! I hardly get tipped onstage anyway.

I hurt like I got hit by a Mack truck after my first night dancing (I had taken a 4 year hiatus). My body has toughened back up. I'm 2 months back in and rarely get bruises or bone/muscle soreness now.
