Default Extensions.... which to go with?

So I am looking at getting extensions soon, and my stylist made my head spin with all the options and maintenance schedules.
She does weft and microbeads, and we also talked clip-in weft (I think). She was saying I had to come in every 2-3 weeks to have them moved, and that they had to be totally re-done every 8-12 weeks. I was considering the clip-ins because my inner poor person's eyes popped out when she said $200 every 8-12 weeks...
I have also heard that the wefts are itchy, and the microbeads apparently if you condition too close to the beads you will make them slip out?

So what extension types do you girls have? What's the cost and maintenance schedule like? Is there anything that annoys you about them?

I like the tape weft.....conceals very well. The beaded weft is sometimes bulky and if the beads don't have a silicone lining in them they can damage and split your hair!!!

okay I have been using extensions since I was 17.. soo it's been like 4 years now.. and I have ALWAYSS used clip ins!! I really don't recommend getting any type of permanent ones put in at all. they're SO expensive, can damage your hair, and then you have to deal with all that hair in your head 24/7. Stick with clip ins I swear!!

there's a wig store by my house that I always go to and the most expensive type of clip ins are only 180$ (22" long, wavy, blend of two different colors to match mine) and then they last a few months. Technically they can last up to 6 months but I love how new ones look and feel so I get new ones like every 3 months or so. But actually the ones I have now I've had for a lot longer and they still look good (i just think after a while they get shorter too from styling and brushing so much). IMO that beats the 200$ every few weeks or so. Plus I just like that I can take the hair out at night when I get home and I don't have to wear them when I work out. They're easy to take care of too you just wash and condition them in your sink... I even knew a girl who took her clip ins to get colored to match her hair lol.

So yeah I hope that helped but I highly HIGHLY recommend sticking with clip ins. And after a few times of putting them in it'll be super easy to do. Good luck i'm sure they'll look great!

yes another vote for clip-ins ,the microbeads ones were to hard to maintain,to brush, lot of knots hair pulling and such,... not my cup of tea i'm a lazy girl don't have 1 hour to get up to roots and carefuly brush inbetween each and every microbead after whipping my hair back and forth on cam lol, clip ins are gr8 first ones i had were shedding like crazy but there is some kind of glue though u can bond them with ,and not lose any hairstraind its called fray check i think made for fabric

I wont do any extensions anymore..Most r too expensive and damaging. I even found that clip ins broke my natural hair off...No extensions for me anytime soon unless i can find a 100% non-damage-to-hair kind.

i have to agree with 22 on this..clip ins are the least damaging to your hair ( and even those can damage it if you are too rough, sleep in them, or have VERY fragile hair.) the next best might be tape-ins? but clips ins are cheap ( i pay 100 bucks for mine), easy, and one set lasts me 6 months to a year as long as its real human hair and you take care of them. with the more permanent ones you get damage and the prices are ridiculous imo esp if your hair grows fast

$200 every 4-5 weeks is a better estimate, I think. No offense to your stylist, but sometimes they say the thing last longer than they usually do

Did you mean tape in or beads? This is an important detail, but $200 is very cheap. I would definitely try it out. In a few cities I've been to its like 400-600, and up to 800 for the initial work. I wish I didn't have to use clips every day- my hair is thin at the top and its difficult to hide the bulky tracks sometimes

Well, I don't know/use them..however, @ a trade show, I tried out Hi Chic brand clip ins they have a site, google it (I think they have other types) & really loved the color/quality of hair. I didn't get 'em cause @ the time I was really lookin' for clip in bangs which they didn't have.

I've been wearing clip-ins since I'm 16 years old, so it's been a few years . They are very easy to put on and remove, it takes me around 10-15 mins to straighten my hair and put in my extensions, less than a minute to remove them at the end of the day. Never had them fall off or anything like that.

It costs me around $200 too for one pack of the best virgin remy hair they have (18 inches). I go to a hair supply store owned by black people (i don't want anyone to feel offended but in the part where I live it's where you could find the best hair extensions at a reasonable cost...) The expensive hair salons or stores at the mall sell lower quality hair for double the price.

I straighten them every time before I put them on (don't forget to put heat protectant, it's real hair afterall) and I only go through two packs every year, so one pack lasts me for approximately 6 months. I don't wear them every day though, only a couple of days per week. I like having short hair at school and at the gym. No one can tell I have extensions unless I tell them and they're usually very surprised.

I've never had hair extensions attached to my head (sewed-in or glued...) it's so expensive and seem to be very high maintenance. I already hate having to go to the nail salon to get a refill every month and sitting for an hour or longer sometimes... Wouldn't have the patience to do that with my hair too. I also heard they're very damaging.

Clip ins would probably be most practical. Is your stylist also going to be selling you the hair. If not definitely shop around on the internet, ebay, I am going to use aliexpress.com to get some cambodian hair for my sew in. Most hair stores are a no-no when buying hair, overpriced and doesn't last. What kind of hair are you going to get. I've seen videos on youtube and russian texture is beautiful, I have some virgin peruvian straight hair and it is drop dead gorgeous.

I use micro rings, i do them myself every two months or so and it cost me £60 a time. I used to swear by weave but once i switched to micro rings i could never go back. Have you considered learning to do them yourself? its saved me a fortune.
I hate clip-ins because my natural hair is quite short and to me they look more obvious than the long term extensions

I have done both the glued in ones & clip ins and I will say that I do like the clip ins more only bc I can take them out whenever I want & my hair isn't damaged. However, when I was gluing them in they looked more natural & if I wore my hair up in a ponytail or somethin , you couldn't see that i even had extensions. With the clip ins though you could depending on the size of the clips I had on them which sucked :/ I'm currently doing clip ins bc the glue was such a pain in the ass to take out & get out of my hair. I had the fusion extensions and although it looked nice, it made my scalp itchy and was impossible to condition my hair. I recommend clip-ins.

Default Anyone have experience with micro-loop extensions

I'm looking into getting extensions either a set of clip ins or micro loop I did some research on pricing on them is about the same but for the mirco loop you would have to pay someone to get them in for your witch I will gladly do. Seems like the only downfalls would be the maintenance to redo them every so often and the troubles of long hair but I have a mullet-hawk so its not that bad. The front is pretty much a giant fringe and the back is a mullet that mohawk shaved . I'm planning on getting the front down to the top of my boobs/collar bone area and the back/mullet to the small of my back.

my hair is at this awkward stage where it barely hits the top of my back and it feels wired down so i have it in a side braid

Please get rid of the mullet. It's not cute.

As for the micro extensions, they are great but are very high maintenance. I used to install them/have had them in my own hair and they were a pain. If you go to someone who doesn't have much experience they can look... Stringy. It takes a lot of packs to get it down right and even then if your hair isn't long enough it can look really strange. I'd say in your case, because your hair is so short, is to look into getting a weft either braided, clipped, or glued in. An actual weft of hair instead of individual strands would look much more natural.

What brand are you using? I pay 200 for mine and they last about 3 washes and 30 wears if I'm lucky.

has anyone ever tried wearing highlighted extensions (like a platinum blonde with a medium blonde) when they have platinum blonde hair? does it create a highlighted "ombre" look or does it just look like it doesnt match?? i've been wanting to try this but don't want to spend the money if it's not gonna work...
