Thumbs down How much of a factor is age?

I turned 29 a couple months ago, but I look like I'm 25 (often get mistaken for 22-23)… I'm attractive, not a super model, but better than average definitely… high cheek bones, nice eyes, girl next door meets exotic, 30DD-26-33 flat stomach, 5'4", great butt, no cellulite, implants that are normally mistaken for real boobs… i have short hair (shoulder length), but usually customers say they like me better with shorter hair than extensions… i have absolutely no problem making money at clubs i've already been hired at…

however i've found that lately when i've gone into a new club i've either been turned away or given a crappy shift… i don't think i'm insane… even girls i don't even know are incredulous when i tell them i wasn't hired or the shift i was given… are clubs just over saturated and they're getting really strict with their standards? how much of a factor is age? like are managers instantly turned off when they see age? when i've asked what i could improve on, the clubs just say they don't discuss their hiring… i've been dancing fairly consistently for about 5 years… any ideas??

the areas i'm talking about are the los angeles area and vegas… i'm looking to travel, but i don't want to bother if i'm going to have problems getting hired due to my age.

also, i am white with tan skin and dark hair… but sometimes mistaken for latina or half persian.

Depends on where you are and the club. If it's a chain like Barely Legal age might be a factor. I'm gonna be 29 and I have never had a problem getting hired except for my tattoos. I look better than these lumpy little doughballs chowing down on their McD's with their guts hanging over their TJ Max panties.

There's a few cougars on the board here and a 43 year old MILF that I work with IRL that gives me and my funbags a run for our money ANY day of the week. Age is a number just like weight is.

Im 28 and have been hired at every club Ive ever auditioned at. Maybe you not getting hired is due to other reasons, like the club having enough dancers, etc.
Ive worked with girls in their 30's and 40's who are consistently top earners. I would tend to doubt age is the problem in your situation, its probably something else.
Some clubs like the girls to have specific styles. Maybe if you visited a club before you audition, it would give you an idea of what they are looking for.

I don't think age is why! You are still really young!

You just never know. I've been hired at every club I've ever worked at besides Spearmint Rhino in Downtown La... like, they didn't even want me to audition for them. And I've known some unattractive girls that have worked there!

There are tons of thread on this. Do a search but again I will say it! I'm 45 and never had a problem. I auditioned in NY at 42 and Denver at 40. I also travel with a girl who's 53 and never has a problem and she works in more clubs than me during the year( we both travel). If you look good clubs appreciate an older women who looks 15-20 years younger. Your looks are your business. You need to keep them up.

Ok I just read further. Yes in Vegas and Cali they are going to want more bombshell look. Also first impressions are everything! I would wear extensions. Most mangers equate bombshell with long hair and very done up makeup. Sounds like your body is there you just need to walk in to impress. Dress up! Hair and makeup done. Even patty stanger makes the girls that come to her mixers with shorter hair wear extensions. Good luck!

^^^ there are lots of potential reasons for your difficulties ... which have little or nothing to do with your age and/or appearance ...

    - certain clubs do NOT want dancers who are intelligent and highly experienced, because they will generally not put up with the club 'screwing' dancers out of money, jerking around dancer schedules, etc.

    - certain clubs do NOT want older dancers who are less willing to offer 'extras' and/or are more likely to complain if customers take 'liberties'.

    - certain clubs do NOT want dancers who are observant enough to potentially file lawsuits against the club for 'illegal' pay / dancer treatment !

For better or worse, the entire SoCal area is more or less a 'wasteland' for girls who want to 'just' dance these days ! Vegas is a bit better, but not a lot better. Both of these areas have far more would-be dancers knocking on the club's door than the clubs could possibly hire ... which in turn provides clubowners with the opportunity to indulge in all sorts of arbitrary hiring and firing practices. And, unfortunately in your case, many clubowners apparently now prefer to hire relatively gullible, 'not the sharpest pencil in the box', desperate enough for money that they'll put up with very high contact and keep their mouth shut about mistreatment, young and inexperienced dancers.

In regard to 'advice', I'd say try to play up your 'exotic' side, and keep checking out different clubs that don't require a huge investment of time and money to travel to.

Thank you ladies… I don't know why the whole "glam factor" thing never dawned on me… i guess it's just the fact that i'm prettier in the face and have a better body than a lot of the girls working, so i thought the hair thing wouldn't be an issue… i used to wear extensions and a fall when i had REALLY short hair… so I guess I'll go back to that. :]

If you Don't look your age, age isn't a problem. And even then looking 18 isn't always a good thing.

LA and Vegas are pretty saturated with dancers. I'm 54 & have been working at the same clubs off and on for around five years. One of the club closed, so I interviewed for another one. A smallish club in North Holywd. I got hired without having to audition, but they had a strict rule about having to work 4 shifts a week and pay them:-(

I do look younger, but I am older. So age is not really a thing. They also asked where else I had worked in the area. I lied and said I had never worked in that part of LA. They may not have hired me if I said I had.

Since there are so many good looking women needing a second job, the clubs are rather saturated. You sound hot, I don't think it's you.

You sound hot, I didn't know a 30DD even existed. Melonie said what I was going to and sounded way smarter than I would, so what she said and good luck.

I STARTED stripping at 27 so I doubt it's an age thing. However, I did get released from one place as soon as I hit something like 35 "club policy" which I was warned about when I started, despite being one of the top earners.

This is true. I started dancing at 32, been hired at new clubs as old as 37-38, am 42 now. Work in SoCal. If an old fart like me can get hired, then I don't think age is an issue.

And it's true, you do have a lot going for you! Don't let age get to you. 29 is still so young!!
