It might be difficult to get hired in Manhattan because last year January was so slow for me. So I left my old club and went to audition at other ones in the city and I got turned away from two of them, they said they weren't hiring/had too many girls which was surprising since I never got turned down by any club. I took off for a bit after that. Maybe it was true, I went back to those two places in February and didn't have a problem getting hired.

I'm a native to the area, so I'm not working. Staying in on New Years Eve lol. Don't like the crowds. It's a fun thing for tourists to do, my cousins from Texas came one year and I was dragged into the city with them one New Years Eve. They had fun, but it's incredibly difficult to get a good view and cross the avenues as it gets later in the day.

I would say either work or party. I don't know about clubs up there, so I can't help you out. The places I've been to on NYE were out of the way of the whole crowd and Times Square, so the city wasn't that bad. If I go up to NYC for NYE I usually go to an electro show.

It might be difficult to get hired in Manhattan
Manhattan in particular is extremely seasonal. December is typically the highest earnings potential season of the entire year, thanks to Wall St Christmas bonuses etc. ( i.e. the average Wall St. Christmas bonus last year was $121,000 !!! ... no that's not total earnings with bonus, JUST THE BONUS !) However, summers are typically slow due to high earning guys who work in Manhattan wanting to 'get the hell out of town' to their homes in the Hamptons or the Jersey Shore, and being 'replaced' by tourists on a budget. As such, Manhattan clubs often have problems retaining top performing dancers through the slower summer season. And this situation is made worse by college girl dancers leaving for the summer. And, of course, between New Years and tax refund season, the bad weather really cuts down on the number of club customers. Or put another way, when I was regularly working only Manhattan clubs, I probably earned one third of my total annual earnings during the Thanksgiving through New Years season, but sometimes had trouble earning enough money during the winter and summer months to 'break even' on my Manhattan rent and costs of living.

So to 'pursuade' top performing regular Manhattan dancers to 'stick it out' during the slpwer months, there is somewhat of an unspoken agreement that, when the heavy money starts flowing in December, that the Manhattan clubowners will NOT allow a whole bunch of 'out of town' dancers to pop into town as the holidays approach, allow them to compete with local dancers for that Christmas bonus money, and then disappear right after New Years. It is really for this reason that Manhattan clubs are reluctant to hire new dancers prior to the holiday season ... and especially so if they aren't permanent residents of the greater NYC area.

PS Times Square on New Years Eve used to be an insane party !!! But over the last few years, security measures have put a 'damper' on things.

But I'm sure it'll be a blast for myself if I choose to go , Despite the high security you speak of.... yea? Also another thing I;m a little worried about is the snow up there. I'll be driving up there so I really don't wanna end up stranded not being able to leave. I'll park my car in a covered lot if I can find one & crash in a hostel in Times Square. I really hope I can do it this year

Eh the snow isn't that bad. I've been driving around the boroughs today, it's been a couple of inches up here. Although I don't know how it will be closer to January. Hopefully it will be the last snow for a little while.

soooo the hostels are pretty much all booked up for new years eve Should I still go if I might be in the area anyway? I just don't want to not have a place to stay or have to shell out big money for a couple of nights in the city but I also don't wanna be depressed by not doing anything fun that night either :/ ..... What would you guys do???

What about places hostels in long island and the catch a ferry over? Or Hoboken and catch a ferry?
