    Default Being A Career Camgirl

I saw a similar thread for strippers that turn their dancing into a career, meaning they plan to do it for the rest of their lives/ retirement. I just wanted a poll for people who have been camming for over 10 + years, or girls who are camming that would like to turn this into a career. I was meaning to ask this a while back, but due to some unfournatue news i received to day i decided to post it. I was on academic probation, and despite having earn 3 B, 1 C, i had a asshole that gave me an F in physics (i fuckin hate science, it was my fourth class i have taken and not passed!!) So with that being said, i already sign a contract saying no F's or ill get kicked out for a semester and lose my aid. Its nothing like failing two semesters before your suppose to graduated . Merry f**Kin christmas to me. Since i have a whole semester before i can even reapply, (6 months) i was wondering if its even worth going back for. Im deeply troubled by the ordeal, having ADHD has severely hindered my learning style, but i refused for it to handicap me (no i dont take medicine for it). I have great fun (when im making money that is) when i cam and i get to be my wild hyper self, i love the confidence, and financial advantages it has given me. With that being said, i was thinking about just doing camming as a career? I know that decision is based on bias feelings because of my current situation but im really interested in knowing the career path of a veteran camgirl. Did you see your regular change over years? Did you gain new ones or old ones? If you were camming in your 20's and now in your 30's did your custies start talking about ur aging? Did you stay within camming industry or did u branch yourself into a bigger market such as adult movies, website featuring your mechadise, etc. All advice and information is welcome. Thanks

I have been in adult one way or another for 20 years. Porn 13 & camming about 5. My image & looks are well documented over the years.

If you take care of yourself fans can last a lifetime. I still have fans from even before I started in porn from my dancing days who take me private. Remember they grow older too.

Aging is a fact of life, some fans do get stuck on an image of how I looked one time or another. Which cracks me up when they do unrealistically expect me to look exactly the same from whenever that pic was taken. But some think I look younger than ever, thanks to a good doctor & genetics.

It is all a risk. Life is about taking risk & just going for it. A boring life to me is no tales to tell when I am old & ancient.

    Good Luck,
    Sam

I'm in my mid 30's. I've found my income has grown significantly over the years, I make way more now than I did when I was less 'chronologically accomplished'

I plan on camming until I no longer find it satisfying, I know I'll move on eventually but age doesn't really factor into that at all. For what it's worth I have lots of guys who have been with me since I started on my very first site, and I get as many new customers in their early 20s as I did back when I was a 20-something myself.

There are quite a few top chicas on the major cam sites who are in their 40s (see above ^^^^) and 50s. Of all the factors that go into sustainable success in camming age doesn't appear to be one of 'em. I think an ability to learn new skills and adapt to changing conditions is a much more relevany factor, at any age.

a side note: regardless of age, I think smart chicas plan and save like the $$$$$ won't last forever. Being a chica who wants to quit, is over camming but can't due to financial constraints seems really unpleasant and stressful.

I debate this internally all the time. Is it even worth going after a vanilla job if I can just cam for the rest of my life and retire semi-early? I have a back up plan but more and more I just want to build a fetish and camming empire and retire early. Depending on your income/lifestyle/if you have a family, early retirement might be more possible than you think if you were worried about camming at 65.

I was reading this entry about early retirement. His point is a lot of people live wastefully, but if you are frugal (within reason) you don't have to spend as much of your life working.

    http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/...ly-retirement/

About what you wrote re: school, that sucks and can be really discouraging. However, I do want to say that bad marks aren't a kiss of death. It might be that you need better study habits/tutoring, or to study a different program? I think people are way too focused on college/university=good paying job, and that's not really true anymore like it was in my mother's generation. I see way more of my peers getting jobs from so-called low status technical programs. Obviously depending on what you want to do, for some careers you need a 4 year degree.

Here's a thing that happened to me.

I thought that I was going to be a stripper for years more. My attitude was "until I don't like it anymore / until it isn't profitable for me anymore". Well, that came a lot sooner than I thought it would, and without proper savings I was kinda screwed.

If you plan on doing this career, you should still try to have some kind of a vanilla backup plan. You never know what's going to happen and maybe something will happen and you feel the urgent need to leave the industry. For me, I'm glad that I have camming but I had to take a break from even THAT for a week and that was that,,

    Watch this movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1291547/
It's available on netflix. It really shows you the contrast how girls who went all in and made a career in adult work and the girls who only did it to make some extra cash.
After I watched this, I decided I'm going all in and I'm doing it. Live life frugally and start investing my money.
I must say, its so nice to be 25 and be 100% self sufficient. I've never felt this accomplished before.

I am certified phlebotomist (was in school when i started camming) and I think I am staying as a cam girl for long time. haha. I will stay as long as I continue making money.

I am so glad that I can go on vacation at any time I want as I please... and able to work on other side of the world.

I started with a solo model site back in 2004 when those were becoming super popular, then moved to camming after I had my kids. So I've been in the adult industry for almost 10 years now.

Honestly, I just recently decided to quit school. I was going for a while and very close to getting my degree but... it's not worth it for me anymore. Even if I got my degree I wasn't planning on getting into that field for a couple more years anyway, and I've been without a vanilla job experience for 10 years now. That will be hard to get hired.

So considering my husband is almost finished with his degree and will have a very nice job soon, I'm just planning on continuing camming full time until he is done. Then I will supplement our income by camming part time while I continue to be mommy and homeschool my kids, which is like a full time job in itself!

I never went into this thinking I would do it this long, but it happened. For me, after working for no one but myself for nearly 10 years now, I can't really fathom working for someone else and not living by my own rules and my own hours. I just don't think I would "make it" in the "real world" LOL!

You do have to think about the long term though. If you don't want to ever rely on someone else (husband for example) you need to SAVE SAVE SAVE. But it CAN be done. You could "retire" and end up living nicely if you PLAN right and spend/save wisely.

Good luck! It can be very rewarding long term if you play your cards right.
    xoxo ~ Sarah

It looks like camming, escorting and maybe stripping will be a career for me. Not because I planned it that way just because I haven't really put in a lot of focus when it comes to school and thinking about another career. there is something about working in this industry that there is less stress, it could be your completely in control if you will or won't make any money.

I am getting older I am thinking of going to college which is scary for me but I am not sure I want to be on cam when I am in my 50s. in the mean time I just have to work my hardest and make sure I got money in savings, my younger years I did save but I let my heart and stupidness with a boyfriend get in the way an I lost it all. Now I have to rebuild my credit, buy myself a car and put money away for college and retirement.

I mean, I would like it to be a career, but who knows how long the industry will be good. Stripping is only good for the most part if you travel dance now, and my escort friends have been telling me the same thing is true with escorting starting this year. So I mean, odds are camming may have the same fate. But my lifestyle is very fetish, so I won't be giving that up anytime soon.

I can't see the oldest profession in the world (escorting) having a similar fate as stripping... if you mean in the sense as being less and less profitable. Camming? I can see it changing massively as time goes on, but still in some sense being there.

I find that after doing this since May the camming crowd can be a bit fickle so I am going back to a vanilla job at least part time for a bit or until they find out about my other life... ughh... I really dislike the thought of doing that but bills need to be paid so off I go.

I'm friends with some escorts and a girl that runs a successful agency all over the U.S. (but based in LA I believe).

A lot of the escort girls are not getting booked anywhere near the amount they did in the last couple years. Because it has become a flooded market. Not necessarily a bunch of new girls (though I'm sure that's part of it), but agencies and girls have gotten smarter. Making like 50 ads of YOURSELF, but making them seem like 50 different girls (stock photos- which is good for safety anyway), so that the girls will a million ads pretending to be diff girls get all the business. Its kind of like the same concept of Manwin and porn, I suppose. So all the girls who DON'T put up a million ads pretending to be like 50 girls, don't get many calls because the market appears to have hundreds of new girls, but really its the same few girls with an agency who makes a million new profiles. There are also review boards now, which is where a lot of girls get business when they travel. Oh & I'm not saying that agency girl does that, I'm saying that agencies & escorts all over have started to do that, and it floods the market. There is more supply (fake supply- because its just fake profiles of the same girls) than demand, which fucks all the other escorts over. So things change.

Lol my escort & agency friends may make me remove this comment tho, just saying.

I'm new to camming, but since the money started getting good, it just makes sense to continue for the long run. I can't think of any other job I could do part time and make as much, and do from home on my own schedule...Without an advanced degree!!! Without a bachelors either!! I'm in school, but mostly for my own sense of accomplishment-- not a career. It truly is amazing and I see myself doing this for 10-20 years, maybe more. I can't see myself getting THAT sick of it to quit.

My husband has doctorate in his field, and if he were going the self-employment route (he's salary so he earns more), he'd be making the same $ I make, but his job is much much harder.

The only concern is the way the online industry might change. Who knows. Maybe then I'll get into something cool...like neuroscience!

Wow I feel odd saying this, but I went into cam work when it was DIAL UP! Girltime was my first site. No audio, sloww moving. But it worked. I had to keep my outside job until I grabbed some customers who liked me and became regulars. I then pushed my price per minute higher on new guys. It was working, I found if I worked faithfully 40 a week I could actually pay the rent...only. Which was a big house with a pool, 1,200 a month! I struggled with my bills. I talked with a customer in private one night and told him I was only able to cam and pay rent. He gave EXCELLENT advice IF you want to cam only as a career. He said Make videos! All kinds while you are young and keep them. Be vanilla, be super sexy, use toys, use objects, pee... etc. I did. Some sites allowed piss videos. And today they still sell on many Vid. sites.
This pushed up the income. Then we went with faster internet rolling around, this pushed up the income, guys had been wearing head sets (audio) this pushed up more pennies. So I finally decided that I was going to quit my outside job and do only cam. I worked about 50+ hours a week. I grew and signed with ICU cams too. A guy named Denise owned it then. Now I get cams.com when I looked for it.
So, I signed with many companies and worked them all, if a company was slow all over for performers that day, I went to one that had business hopping.
I also joined the Phone Sex game. I signed with Gemini Audio text. It was good, business was good! Then as the years went on ( I was selling many videos back then, still making new ones too) I was into a Cam House in Tampa. We loved life. Money was good. Anyway long story short. YES, it can be done.
I am no longer 30 or 40 so, I am so happy times change with cam. Men want older sex starved women too! MILF, GILF Cougar I don't care. This is what sells me today, my age. I took care of myself, worked my ass off until I fell asleep where I worked in my clothes, but always washed my face after work.
Cam has grown so much! I bought two of my cars working cam! 08 Mustang and an 07 Charger. I always INVEST! You have to invest! My Credit Union helped me invest wisely.
I think my key to success on cam has been (I dropped phone) Work multiple companies, network, and invest what you can no matter how small. Buy only what you need, eat only what you need etc.
Life is good. Was a long hard journey. Many hours back then, you had too. Now I can kick back and relax with my dogs if I want. Take a few days off and better work it good the next day. I always calculate my hours with the money I make. Not always what I want to see.

I don't think cam has an age life on us really. I have admired a 60 year old from LJ who is always in private! She is not hot, she is damn good at what she does though. And she takes care of her hair and body etc. At that age I would hope to be able to go back to phone with a sweet voice anyway, keep selling all those videos, and retire out from work. Just volunteer for animals.
This can be a career. I left for a time, and came back. I am at home, no gas money needed, no lunch to buy, I save so much money working from home. Don't even need a vehicle!

This is why i TRY to keep my expenses as low as i can.. my goal is 50% of what I make.. I am close not close enough.. I have nothing else to really trim down.. Like my son says, this is a fairy tale income and I cannot get a job in the real world that pays this amount of money.. so since I don't wanna real job what's a girl to do?? get great credit and save tons of cash and buy real estate and franchises.. that's always been my plan since i was before 18....i am determined to make it work out now.

You are my hero. You took advantage of what technology had to offer at the time & rolled with it when it changed. As any smart business professional should do. You are truly inspirational.

    Thank you ,

Wasn't that a hoot! It took the poor guys at least 15 minutes to see you naked, that wasn't our fault. Dial up...wow. I can't believe I mentioned that.
Thank you so much. Glad I made you laugh, thinking back it was funny, and I thought I could never have the time for that stuff. Just hung with it

You are too sweet. Thank you very much. I feel so old... whew. I did, I jumped on the wagon and never thought I would still be around.
If I am an inspiration to just you, I feel good! Just when I felt so damn old, you lifted my spirits.

You don't look older than 37 Cami! I hope I can maintain myself just as well as I age.

I started in this industry in 1999. I feel old just saying that even though I am only 35!! I started out in the fetish world and then slowly dipped my toes into porn. I started in that world with magazine and website shoots. I didn't even know about cam sites until the end of 2004 when I was feeling tired from traveling for shoots and another performer suggest trying a cam site. In March of 2005 I started to cam on privatecamz and loved it. Man, back then you could easily bank two grand a week just by logging on in lingerie and glamour make-up. I miss those days for sure. I also started my website, but to be honest I don't remember the year since I have had it so long. It was a portfolio site first and then eventually I turned it into a members site.

So yes you can make a career out of porn and just being a cam performer. No one ever mentions aging to me because honestly I dont think they care. If someone likes you, they will stick with you as a fan usually. I like being in my 30's, you accept yourself for who you are and don't really care what other people think. It's pretty damn nice.

I started when i was 18. back than, it all was very new. Very few sites, one of them was ifriends.com, this is where i worked.
Now, after 14 years, i am still working full time in the adult industry (not as a model, but i own paysites, clip stores, and shoot some content).
i really hope that i will never get to work on vanilla jobs, i have no experience, and i don't want it, can't even think about working for someone else, and not living by my own rules.

I must admit, sometimes i really scared that one day it will over, so i am saving a lot.
To be honest, a earned much more money a few years ago than now, but it's not just me...most paysites owner have the same problem.

You're right, my husband had an entire cash program with multiple pay sites back when they were booming. That was nice back then!!! Now, he has zero sites and has made a career change into vanilla work. I miss those days though, money was so easy.
    xoxo ~ Sarah
