Default Laser Hair Removal - Long term side effects?

I want to laser my underarms and do a bikini (strip) or a full Brazilian. The spa I am looking into uses Soprano Laser and also has good ratings on Yelp (60+ reviews) so I am pretty excited for my consultation and appointment!

However, my sister told me that they have side effects, like if someone lasers their armpits, they'll sweat more on the face in order to compensate for the armpits getting trauma/lacking sweat glands. I never heard anything like that before, I asked her where she got her information and she said she just heard it somewhere? On the other hand, when I googled other's experiences with LHR, they claim that they sweat even more where they got the laser.
Does the LHR really alter or damage my sweat/oil glands and make me sweat too much? Sweat too little and dry out my skin further down the line due to lack of sebum or moisture? I don't mind using oil on my bikini and armpit area if dryness is a concern, because I oil my body anyway. The yelp reviews talk about how baby smooth they've become, but I wonder if they'll still feel the same way several years down the road.

What are your experiences, ladies? Has anyone gotten the LHR and after a long time (like 5 or 10 years down the road), dealt with any complications such as sweaty skin, dry skin, yeast infections? Do you regret it?

I haven't had any problems and it's been several years since I started doing it...I will say that in some areas it just didn't work that well. So I suggest getting a lifetime package deal or if you have the ideal combination which is fair skin and dark hair you should be fine.

Definitely didn't have an issue with sweating more/less/in other areas. I had my underarms and brazilian done. Long term though, it did start to grow back just a little bit for me, as well, but nowhere near the amount that I started with. It's nothing a quick pass of the razor won't fix and with no irritation or shaving bumps like I got before.

Hair growing back (just a bit) isn't a problem, there's supposed to be hair anyway. I just thought that I'd drench my tops with underarm sweat or something! How long ago were your last laser treatments?

Anyone else had LHR for a while? Especially the Soprano, I heard it's pretty new relative to something like GentleLase..

I just had a friend who just did her first session and she's very happy with it, hasn't reported any abnormalities (increased sweat, irritation, odor) and said that several other of her friends haven't had any problems either

Well I guess my sister must've been making stuff up lol. She always says weird things.

Anyone have a suggestion on finding a reputable place? I think the 60+ positive yelp reviews say something good but maybe I am naive.

Never had such problems either. I love my lasering!

I see you refer to the treatment place as a "spa". I would make sure that the providers you choose are MDs, PAs or ARNPs. My husband and I have gone with Ideal Image, a national chain of treatment centers and after a few years with them, we have no complaints!

No, I don't think long term effects are common, I have not experienced any myself. I'm a trainer and I know many of my clients (mainly Fitness/Figure&Bikini competitors) have done laser and I've never heard of side effects. All I hear is how satisfied all are. I did full Brazilian, thighs, legs and arms a couple of years ago and I only have to do some touch ups once or twice every year!
However, I do believe there are variations between places, so use only those with the best feedback.

Hey! So I had an underarm laser with the Soprano today. It stung slightly but really tickled because the lady was swiping the laser back and forth a lot. I was laughing the whole time when she did my right underarm (with more hair follicles) but the left underarm (with the least hair follicles) didn't sting nor tickle as much. I can't imagine how painful the regular lasers must be!

I am scheduled for the brazilian tomorrow (I had a hard time shaving down there so I am going to shave tonight and return to the spa again), but I am scared that I might have my period tomorrow because I sort of feel PMS symptoms. I hope not, because the cancellation has a fee too and I really want to try the brazilian as soon as possible. I wonder if the spa had to deal with women getting periods on their brazilian laser treatment schedule.

Has anyone tried the Vitamin B shots before? The spa is offering it to me and I hope that it will give me more energy.

I went w/ the Ideal Image ppl & they have a 'lifetime of free touchups' thing going, at least they did when I started it. I had to stop two or three treatments from the end (for reasons that had nothing to do w/ the lasering or anything related to it) but their facilities are clean & their staff professional, well-trained. Got underarms & Brazilian. Stung like a bitch but it is comparable to getting a tattoo, I think.

Have had no negative side effects. I have always sweated a bit heavily & had no difference there, in either direction. When I do need to pass a razor over the lasered areas, I don't get bumps or burns anymore. All around it's remained consistently low-maintenance.

ETA just saw the bit abt VitaminB shots. I wouldn't trust any injectables from a facility that is not MD-staffed. You can get VitaminB on your own w/ the right diet adjustments.

I got the 6 treatments for underarm & brazilian each for a total of $972. That's a good deal, right? I can't wait to have the hair become thinner!

I think the place I go to is MD staffed (the owner is at least). I have gut issues, so I thought that injecting would be a good idea to try. Too bad that I wasn't really able to tell how I felt, because I was dealing with the period cramp. ugh.

whether or not its a deal depends on how your long your actual appointment is. I've gone to places that rushed me amd missed spots and other places that took their time, got every spot, and let me take a break if the pain was too much. if this deal is a groupon its possible they're trying to fit as many ppl as possible but you never know. the plus about getting a package is that you can request to go to the samr person each time and its a lot easier to articulate your concerns to her.

Thank you for this info! I'm in the progress of planning laser hair removal, and I've noticed quite some differences in prices without any obvious reason.
I have understood that I should stay well clear of IPL and instead look for Diode laser, any other clues on how to pick a good place?
