Default Elbow injury from pole trick -- self treatment??

I've been trying to get down the shoulder mount for about two weeks now. I've been practicing it repetitively on my right shoulder, but for sure I fucked up something in my right elbow. It's not swollen or painful to the touch so I know it's not inflamed, but when I extend it out and try to rotate inward/outward it's painful like something is out of place and needs to be popped back to where it belongs. It's bugging the crap out of me. Anyone familiar w physical therapy/orthopedics that can help me figure out what this injury is and how to treat it at home???

First of all, how are you gripping the pole w/ your hands?

Back off that trick for a while. That might be enough to cure it. These tricks will put tremendous strain on isolated parts of your body--joints especially.

@aniela w my dominant hand on the top.. I'm not wrapping my thumb around it.. I think I was putting too much of my weight on my arm and not tightening up in the middle enough :/

@djoser yah I think imma just take a break from it for a bit. Thanx !

Def take a break from it, & after the break maybe work on sm strengthening for your shoulders & upper arms? The elbow is generally more stable than the shoulder but the shoulder mount is a pure-strength move & all of the grip variations can place a huge amt of strain on those joints. Strengthing the muscles & tendons should help increase the joint stability.

Have you ever heard of a Fasst Patch? No I didn't mis-spell it...LOL.. I used them when I had a broken shoulder, healed up pretty darn good and never even got it set.. didn't lose much mobility.. Anyways that and bone and joint capsules by Dr Christopher.. you can find them on Amazon.

Make sure your using a cupped grip when SMing. Especially if you shoulder dismount.

There are a variety of grip variations but they also work different muscles.

Cup grip is personally my favourite b/c I find it more stable w/ the nerve damage in my right(dominant) hand & arm, can't always grip securely. I usually have the pole against my right trap, right hand on the bottom & left on top. You also do bring your elbows inward when mounting as you brace yourself against the pole. If you try the shoulder dismount your elbows should already be in that position.

Good article on SMs & various grip variations
Also an informative general article on use of the twisted grip, since there is a twisted grip SM variation

How have you been feeling, OP? Is the soreness better?

thanks for all the replies!!! i'm feeling much better, my arm is starting to feel like it's stabilizing on its own, I give it another 2 weeks or so and i'll be 100% -- super sucks though cause i've had to lay off of it in the gym and i really wanna get this trick down!!!!

^^^^ You will get there! It's such a pissy feeling when your body just isn't having it! Just get it stabilised/strengthened/whatever you need so you can get back to working on it w/o causing further discomfort -- I will go reserve a beer in my fridge for when you finally conquer this move.
