Portland stripper Lynsie Lee, famous for tweets with Cory Booker, faces new challenge: Tom Hallman at large

There are public figures and figures that are public.
Because of the year she had in 2013, Lynsie Lee is now both.
Until September, she was known locally for her work as a stripper at Casa Diablo, a vegan strip club in Northwest Portland. That changed with a series of Twitter messages between her and Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark, N.J., then and now a U.S. senator. The two began corresponding after both were featured in a documentary called "Follow Friday: The Film."
Lee, 26, is divorced and the mother of a girl who is 5. She began dancing a little over two years ago as a way to make a good living and have the time to spend with her daughter.
Instead of running away from what could have been considered controversial, Lee embraced the attention.
She now has more than 19,000 Twitter followers, posts multiple times a day with thoughts that range from the risqué to observations about her body, life and the Portland Trail Blazers. They are at times funny, absurd and right on target.
"So many things happened after the story broke," she said. "I was flown to New Jersey to be the correspondent for a local TV show. I did a segment on tailgating at a Giants football game. It was the first time I've been at an NFL game, and I got to go on the field."
She said she was treated as a celebrity in New Jersey.

"The Cory Booker thing was a big deal on the East Coast," she said. "People knew who I was. It was weird."

She continues dancing at Casa Diablo, getting frequent comments from patrons that "you're the girl from the story."
But the biggest change in her life came recently when she had to deal with her mother's terminal illness from cancer.
"I moved her in with me where she's getting hospice care," Lee said. "She can't talk and sleeps all the time. I've been told her prognosis is four to six months."
When Lee has to work, family members – she has six siblings – help with her mother's care.
"It's good that we get to grieve," she said. "It's not a sudden death. It's good she's with me, and we can all be together."
Lee has posted updates on her Twitter account and started a deeply personal blog on Tumblr where she talks about her life, her mother and cancer.
"It's crazy," she said. "I've never felt like such an adult. I've never had to deal with a death in my family. Talking about it has helped me. I get mail and comments from people."
Lee knows she leads a life far different than most people.
    But it doesn't matter.
"We don't all have to be like each other," she said. "Every connection you make with someone can make you a better person because everyone is a teacher."
