    Crossfingers New Music From DJ's

DJ seems extra pissy when I ask about playing songs or new music for stage sets. I try to not ask him too often for this reason but I really like to change music every so often. While I think he is being somewhat lazy I'll try to think positive and ask you all:

How do I get him to be more open to

    1. downloading new music and

    2. playing songs that I (and him too) feel would help me shine from stage.

Doesn't $$ speak to this guy? Or does he not understand that the better you do $$-wise the better you can take care of him, & that has a fair bit to do w/ your stage performance?

club takes $ from our stage fees to give the djs and security. I give him extra tips if I do really well and make extra $$$.

He also says the managers restrict him from playing certain music. which I have preferred songs from 3 or 4 genres. so I'm wondering if this is an excuse.

And he did say last time i asked if he had any new music, that he would rather be drunk on his off time than looking for new music?!?! I thought that this is part of what DJ's do is sample new music.???

I have to wonder if he is too simple-minded to look for new music *while* he is drunk that's been when I have found sm of the best stuff, when I got lit & started looking up random shit that I would nvr think to explore otherwise.

He sounds pretty lazy, honestly. Will he not play anything that you bring in yourself? After all you did all the work, all he has to do is insert the thumb drive & press play, right?

hmmm...i guess i should see how he gets new music to play into the system. if he uses thumb/flash drive I could see about that being an option to make it as simple and effortless as possible.

    Lol Whirlerz.

I think the club is short staffed too. Supposed to be one additional dj and he works 7 days a week.

But hey I don't want to be punished for his lack of job passion

Many clubs ban certain genres (often rap/hip hop) so it's possible that the DJ isn't just using it as an excuse. Your best bet is to bring the music in for him (USB/CD) with a tip. If he still doesn't play your music for you, not much you can do other than ask another DJ to put your music on the computer and hope the DJ in question will then play it.

rap/hip hip/r&b is not banned per se but it night dj plays it with strict rarity.

I have noticed that many girls at the club (mostly white) like this genre and so preferential treatment kicks in and so mainly the sexy blonde chicks get to dance to it.

I like dancing to r&b/dubstep/electronic/pop so dj has some variety to work with.

It just pisses me off cause i like finding new hot songs and i don't even dj. He said the last time he downloaded new music was in September!?!?

The daytime dj is newer and willing to play more songs I like. Ill probably try him, tip him extra, and try my hand in daytime again.

Thanks to you all for the helpful info!

He sounds like an idiot. I always pick my songs and they never argue with me about them... I asked one of the DJs one night if it bothered him and he burst out laughing and was like "are you kidding me? if that bothered me I wouldn't last very long."

I also tip them a lot, buuuut... I know they like to chose music but they've never given me any tude about it. I'm not really into dancing to rap/hiphop but I know some girls at my club have been turned down when they chose music from those genres cause our club wants to be a "classy" club...

When I worked before I would bring in CDs or flash drives (omg that sounds like aaaages ago but it was only a few years!) now they just want me to text them songs I like. If you DJ is super lazy I would bring in a flash drive with your music on it.

I decided to start my shifts with the daytime dj. He's fairly new and plays pretty much anything we want.

The night time dj has been at his job for many years and stuck in his ways. So I don't feel like going on an uphill battle with him right now especially when I'm only on stage once maybe twice during night shift.
