Default Detroit club busted, patrons arrested, cars towed

    http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/d...z/-/index.html

Three major complaints; underage dancing, prostitution, and drug use. It was also operating after hours.

This was definitely an urban club, from what people I know in the industry have told me--not your typical suburban stripclub--and we all know how some parts of Detroit can get lol. Still, for a Deja Vu club to get raided so thoroughly is surprising to me.

I am wondering about whose cars got towed. The implication was that these were assets being seized.

Seems like it was your typical police raid. Wait until the club has the most patrons, arrest everyone, tow everything, seize everything possible, charge everyone there, and get money out of the people who are not guilty of anything, but were there when the place got busted.

Idk Bone. IME rounding up and arresting everyone in the club is a bit unique, as is towing all of their vehicles. I have read countless reports of strip club raids and they usually target (1) individuals caught in the act; (2) people who were previously seen by undercover cops to be engaging in illegal activities; and (3) in rarer cases, anyone in the club with other outstanding warrants. Arresting customers just for being there seems a little extreme.

It will be interesting how this all shakes out, meaning how many people actually get charged and with what. if this pans out like most strip club raids, the results will be a few BS misdemeanor charges for solicitation and maybe a drug violation or two. I sincerely doubt that they are going to find evidence of an underage dancer in a Deja Vu club.

More maximum noise and great expense for little return in the way of serious crime fighting.

Interesting how it kept saying, "our station was the ONLY one allowed to film" like 4 times

^^^ actually, as state and local gov't budgets have spun deeper down the proverbial toilet, the trend has been to forget about gathering evidence against particular dancers and customers. Instead they just bust ALL of the dancers and customers up front, and dangle the 'plea bargain' carrot ... i.e. agree to pay X hundred dollars in fine money and be allowed to walk away, versus deciding to 'plead your innocence' via a local jury trial ( involving legal fees + potential risk of a guilty verdict resulting in an even larger fine and/or jail time ). Given that typical jury members will be housewives ( who hate it when hubby stops off at a strip club ), retirees ( who typically love their bible thumping ), public sector workers who receive full pay for jury duty ( and will thus side with the gov't if given half the chance ), any private attorney will tell you that the odds of being found ( bogusly ) guilty after trial are rather high !

As Bone already pointed out, most of the time the DA won't even attempt to bring actual charges against ( bogusly ) busted club customers ... but they will get stuck paying a towing charge and an impound fee nonetheless !!!

They did spend many months investigating with undercover officers.

That doesn't automatically mean every person who got their car seized was a drug dealing pimp working underage girls, of course.

There's nothing to forgive. I have heard from Detroit industry contacts that the place was nasty. Not all clubs are the same. Some of them attract a serious criminal element.

This particular club did attract some criminal activity. I never danced there but went there as a customer a few times and weed was being smoked openly. As far as extras go, it's Detroit. I guess they're buckling down raiding clubs in Detroit because another was recently raided (this raid was kept more quiet) and the funny thing is, the other club that got raided is among the cleanest in the city. I have yet to here about one of the 8 Mile whorehouses (excused my language) getting raided, although that's where a lot of the prostitution is happening.

As for them towing everyone's car, I think that's a bullshit shakedown. I bet they'll search through every single car and end up bringing up charges for whatever they find; I heard of something similar happening at an after-hours place in Detroit. Everyone's cars were seized and searched and I'm pretty sure officers offered them a bribe, if they pay x amount to them personally, they won't get any charges.

Obviously "crimes" occur at this particular Deja Vu, but the whole thing seems sketchy to me.
