Default i'm SO tired all the time...

    Hey guys,

Since I started back up dancing I am tired aaaall the time. Like I'm talking 12+ hours of sleep a day. I got eight hours last night and I'm so exhausted right now (it's my night off) I feel like I'm going to fall asleep as I'm typing this (and I woke up at 5pm today!)

I normally get home between 4:45-6am and try to get some stuff done before I fall asleep but sometimes I can't control it and I'm out within fifteen minutes of walking in the door. I always set my alarm for 2pm but sometimes it's hard for me to pull myself out of bed at 5:30pm. There are some days I sleep even longer, waking up at 7pm!

I hate sleeping this much because it means that I essentially get nothing done... I mean I had to take a night off from work to go to CVS, grocery shopping, and run some other errands because if I don't wake up until 6pm I basically only have time to run to the tanning salon and get ready for work. It's really depressing to literally just go to work, come home to sleep, and go to work again

I never used to sleep this much, during the fall I was averaging between 5-7 hours of sleep. Is my body just tired from work? Or could something else be going on?

I'm curious too, I've been having the same problem. It happened last year also like this year, as soon as the weather changed it it was getting darker and darker earlier outside, I guess it confused my body and now I've been sleeping all the time. It's so strange, last night I slept at 6 and then woke up at 5 P.M., giving me little time to get ready and go to work.

When I was a teenager i used to work and study and sometimes i slept only 3 times per week. And i was fine full of energy. So when i started camwork i continued same thing and work at night. So personally i dont like to work at night cuz after im walking all day long like a zombie, head doesnt feel so clear and im sleepy. Im not that person who can do that. So when i switched the time i feel better now. But sometimes after having a period i feel really bad so i take iron vitamin and no prob.

Welcome to being a night shift dancer. The physical demand on your body takes a toll. Your body repairs itself when you sleep. Like after you workout a lot you sleep more. You will adjust with time. Make sure you are taking in enough calories and eating a well balanced meal.

^^^^ You beat me to it.

I had so much the same problem this past yr, but my diet consisted mainly of ramen, pasta, chocolate soy milk & Subway w/ the occasional Jersey Mikes thrown in for variety. I drank water like a fiend at work but had a truly decent meal (nutrition & caloriewise) only once a wk, & that one decent meal came from my then-bf's restaurant, which I stopped going to after he broke things off. Add in all the pole work I was doing every nite & I had an arrangement that was great for my figure but horrid for my body.

There is a good bit of physical adjustment involved but getting settled into a proper diet will likely make all the difference. Hope you feel better soon!

Allergies are kicking my ass this year. Always have a fever & sleeping all the fucking time. Many people are allergic to smoke & don't realize it. So that maybe the reason. I sleep a good 8 hours a night & yet can have to take 3 to 5 naps a day. Just cant seem to stay awake on get anything done.
Because I live in Florida & things bloom all year round, looking to move to California this summer so I wont be affected by it as much anymore. Moving to get away from mine.

Allergies are the number one reason for lack of productivity at a job but most people don't realize that.

According to Dr. Oz this year has been the worst year for allergies in the past 100 years.

    Good luck,
    Sam

Are you sure your body requires all that sleep? I used to have a bit of a sleeping disorder, it started off with 8 hrs and slowly grew to 10, 12, and eventually I was up to 14. I felt terrible, I fell in love with sleep, it depressed me (which too much sleep can do) and it did not satisfy me. I was always in a fog, so much that driving was dangerous.

IMO, that much sleep should really only be needed if you've stayed up like 24 hrs straight. It's so tough to get back on track, and if you do truly need it, then you need it. I kinda just messed with my sleep schedule a bit and was back on track soon enough, feel loads better.

Are you eating correct would be my first question. Have you been checked for food allergies&intolerances? When I found out what I was allergic and intolerant to and changed my diet respectively I got a whole new life! Also, I started taking B12 which is cruicial for the digestive system.

It might be that you're not getting enough nutrients, it could be anemia. Better go check with the doctor. If you're having enough sleep it must be something else. I think it might be something concerning with your diet.

im suffering from the same thing myself! i'll go to bed at like 2 am, and then i won't wake up til 1:30 or 2 pm!! its awful..i know i have bad depression, but getting up that late just adds to it. but i do notice that if i go to bed earlier, i don't need as much sleep. not very do-able for us nocturnal strippers though.
do you have "sleep debt"?? that will do it..if you've been pulling any all-nighters or not getting your 8-10 then your body will try and make up for that. for me personally, my body needs 10 hours of sleep to feel good. everybody's different, but you need to get more than 6 or it can be detrimental to your health. females also need more sleep than males, but 12 hours is a little bit extreme!
also during the winter your body will almost want to hibernate, when its raining or over cast i will sleep a lot more without the sunshine telling my body wake up!

OK ya'll I just slept for 14 hours... And I could've gone longer. I felt SO weak when I was trying to wake up I just couldn't do it.

I'm a vegetarian and I know my diet has not been great since I've started working. Since I spend most of my hours at work it's hard for me to get good, healthy food to eat-- I mostly order veggie burgers and Mexican because I'm at least getting some protein, but it's still not great. But I have heard that sometimes allowing yourself to sleep for so many hours can actually be bad for you and cause you to continually sleep more and more... I just can't tell if I actually need the sleep or not.

And yes AlenaRosa I am in a total fog otherwise!

Do you have any other weird symptoms? Headaches, inexplicable weight gain/loss, vertigo, hair-loss, always getting sick, etc? Getting a blood panel wouldn't hurt, imho. I thought I was simply tired and dumb for years and just recently(last year) found out that I've had a Thyroid condition this entire time.

I've dealt with this on and off throughout university, most of the time it stems from overworking myself, though it's also tied into b12 anemia. I've heard you mention before you work 6 days a week. That's a lot. Our shifts are only 5 hours yeah (maybe longer) but it takes us a long ass time to get that pretty for work. My 5 hour work day easily balloons into 8 or 9 or 10 when I count how long it took me to get ready/drive to work, and if I stay late/come in early. 6 days a week that is a 50-60 hour work week, and it's physically demanding work, I'd be pooped too!

I would cut down on your work schedule a little bit...like go down to 5 days a week say, so that you can "normalize" your schedule more. The nocturnal hours really get to me and mess with my sleep schedule. I try really hard to go to bed as soon as I get home from work at night because if I don't I easily start staying up until 4 or 5 or 6 and sleeping alllllll day. If I can get myself to sleep before 4 I can wake up before noon, which is a pretty good schedule to be on. Lots of time to do things in the afternoons.

Go get yourself tested for b12 levels though, if you're a vegetarian it's highly likely that you're low, it mostly comes from animal products. Other things to test for would be your thyroid hormones, hypothyroidism can make you feel like you have no energy.

Diet is big, but also circadian rhythms whacked out of alignment can wreak hell on your body physically, screw up hormones, and other key functions of the body. sleeping more may sound like an answer but it really wont do much good. you would be better off with very short naps when yu feel like you need it and a good diet and being mentally and physically active when you can on top of it. those really are your best options outside of a normal- average sleep pattern- which not everyone has the luxury of doing.

you're probably just overworking yourself a bit, i would say take it easy but it's easier said than done. if you aren't able to take one more day off of work each week, i would say the best option you have available would be to modify your diet. it's super difficult to prep healthy meals to bring into work, but if that bit of extra work produces results for you, it would be so much worth it. can you meal prep on your day off?

i've always had a big problem w oversleeping -- that and working/school w an inconsistent sched takes its toll. i would knock out 10-12 hours easy no matter what activities i did that day. i'm down to 6-8 now after a few months of really trying to rectify the situation. what i found helped me get it down was eating cleaner, drinking less or not @ all during work, and forcing myself to wake up at the same time every day no matter what time i went to be.. so your body adjusts to a sort of 'self timer', it takes a few tough weeks to adjust but i swear it works -- allow yourself 8 hours, but WAKE THE FUCK UP THE FIRST TIME.. wash your face, eat breakfast, get your day started; if you're still tired, take a short nap after uve gotten a few little things done. even if that nap takes place two hours after the fact, even if you did pretty much nothing in that two hour period, @ least your body managed to wake up and get going after a designated 8 hour sleep period, and it will adapt itself better and better if you do it consistently. do this EVERY DAY for 2-3 weeks and see if it makes any difference

I have this problem and it's because I suffer from allergies, seasonal issues because of winter and immune problems. All I want to do is sleep and I sleep sometimes all day. Doctor said this is common during the winter.

I can give you a piece of advice that will help you be more alert.

For breakfast eat red meat and a handful of nuts (as much as until you feel full). No sugars or carbs, like orange juice or oatmeal. You can have coffee, as long as it doesn't contain milk.

As you are VEGETARIAN, substitute EGGS for the red meat. If you can't eat eggs then good luck to you.

The reason is because certain foods will affect neuro-transmitters. Meat and nuts contain acetyl-l-choline, which will increase your dopamine levels in the morning. And will provide a very sustained level of energy.

Eating carbs will increase serotonin, which will make you feel happy, but also sleepy. So only eat carbs after workout or when you want to relax.

^I'm actually allergic to eggs but thanks for the advice! I have been eating quite a bit of carbs lately, less protein that normal so that could have something to do with it.

I'm still totally exhausted, like even worse than before-- but I'm also really sick. I'm having major stomach pains, horrible cough/stuffy nose, body aches and the chills, so there's something else going on. I made a doctor's appointment today.

Have you thought about getting a blood test? Going to a GP and/or a Naturopath and getting some blood work done will help to determine why you are feeling this way (it could be an allergy, an over or underactive thyroid, adrenal fatigue, low iron, vitamin D or B levels etc).

Well I went to the hospital this week and they did blood work on me and said everything was fine. I do have some kind of stress-related ulcer (they scoped me at the hospital before putting me on an opiate because I was in like level 9 pain when I got there)... I was going to ask the doctor about it but I literally was there for 5 hours and anytime I asked her a question she was like "hmm, I'll be right back" and disappeared for two hours, so I really just wanted to get the fuck out of there.

I'm still getting tired early but I've stopped sleeping in soooo late the last few days-- like if I go to bed at six I was up at 3, so nine hours.

You can eat anything you like, but always eat protein with every meal. Try to eat whole foods that are unprocessed as possible, unless you require a lot of calories.

Protein:- Meat, eggs, protein powder etc.
Carbs:- rice, quinoa, potatoes, sweet potatoes etc...
Fats:- almonds, cashews and other nuts, olive oil, coconut oil.
    Fibre:- vegetables etc.

The above is just natural whole foods, which are unprocessed.

The exception is if you are pushed for time or you need to eat alot of calories, for example I just have rice noodles instead of rice, because it saves time. Also after training, I just have Lucozade Original (i.e. glucose) and protein powder because I need a lot of carbs.

    Also limit fructose.

Instead of eggs, you could try Quorn or some kind of vegetarian protein. As long as it's low carb.
